The concept of lean-premixed combustion in gas turbine combustor operation has become a standard in recent years as an effective means to meet stringent environmental standards on NOx emissions. Various types of air-fuel premixer, which affect greatly NOx emission and stability of lean-premixed low NOx combustor, were investigated experimentally to reduce the NOx emission. One type of the premixers is selected by experiments and applied it to 70kW class lean-premixed gas turbine combustor. The exit temperature and emissions of CO and NOx were measured with equivalence ratios at ambient pressure. From the results, the emissions of CO and NOx were influenced by the type of air-fuel premixer. As the mixing length of air and fuel is longer, the NOx and CO emission were decreased in the primary reaction zone. Compared with of conventional combustor, the lean-premixed low NOx combustor has low NOx emission characteristics.

The aim of this work is to identify application of ultra low NOx and CO combustor. To achieve this, we developed the premixed oxidizer-staging combustor using a cyclone flow. Various factors such as equivalence ratio for the combustion condition and swirl type for secondary air injection have been tested experimentally for flame stability and NOx, CO emission characteristics. Before to do this, we had been tested cyclone premixed combustor in advance. it is similar to first combustor of premixed oxidizer-staging combustor. As a result, cyclone premixed flame shows the very high flame stability and low NOx emission. however, it can be identified that there were some problems such as a little high CO emission and thermal resistance of combustor wall. Cyclone premixed oxidizer-staging combustor can resolve those of problems. In our combustor, we can found out optimal condition that the secondary air injection method is swirl type, swirl direction is co-swirl and equivalence ratio of first combustor is 1.3. Quantitatively, we can achieve 10.8 ppm for NOx and 30.2 ppm for CO emissions respectively. Form this result, we can identified that cyclone premixed oxidizer-staging combustor can apply to ultra low NOx and CO combustor.
The low NOx characteristics have been investigated to develop the combustor for micro turbine. The lean premixed combustion technology was applied to reduce the NOx emission. The test was conducted at the condition of high temperature and ambient pressure. The combustion air which has the temperature of $450\sim650K$ were supplied to the combustor through the air preheater. The temperature and emissions of NOx and CO were measured at the exit of combustor, The exit temperature and NOx were increased and CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. The premixing chamber can be operated very lean condition of equivalence ratio around 0.35. The NOx was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ratio. The CO was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ratio, but the CO was increased with decreasing the equivalence ratio below 0.4. But, at the very lean condition of equivalence ratio below 0.35 both NOx and CO were increased because of the flame unstability. The NOx was decreased and CO was increased with increasing inlet air flowrate. This results can be used to determine the size of combustor. Consequently the performance of combustor shows the possibility of the application to the gas turbine system.
Stabilization and reduction of combustion noise and NOx emission from dry low NOx combustor of GE MS7001F gas turbine were achieved. Dry low NOx gas turbines that adopt the lean premixed combustion technology frequently generate the flame instability and high NOx emissions if not adequately tuned. Dynamic pressure oscillation during the combustion mode transfer increased as ambient temperature decreased with frequency of 80㎐ and magnitude of 4-9 psi. Effects of both combustor tuning for uniform fuel flow with burner nozzles and fuel pre-filling into transfer fuel valves on stabilisation of the dry low NOx combustor were very significant. Dynamic pressure oscillation during the combustion mode change was decreased up to 2.5 psi. Also, NOx emission from GE7F DLN-1 combustor can be maintained as low as 35-43ppm (15% O$_2$) in base load operation of 150 MW.
In order to reduce NOx emissions in the 20kw class microturbines under development, the low NOx characteristics, as being an application to the lean premixed combustion technology, have been investigated. The study has been conducted at the conditions of high temperature and pressure. Air from a compressor with the temperature of 500K to 650K and the pressure of 0.3bar gauge to 0.7bar gauge, was supplied to the combustor through an air preheat-treatment. Sampling exhaust gases were measured at the immediate exit of the combustor. for the effect of temperature on NO and CO emissions. though NOx was increased, CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. With increasing inlet air pressure, NOx and CO were increased also. NOx was decreased, but CO was increased with increasing inlet air mass flow rate. The test has been performed on the equivalent ratios of 0.10 to 0.25 in a lean region. NOx was increased with increasing equivalent ratios, but CO was decreased as an influence of flame temperature. In the very lean region of the equivalent ratio below 0.12, CO was increased suddenly, due to instability. As the results of this study, NOx and CO are found to be reduced to the similar level at the same time when operated at optimal conditions.

In this study, the influence of changing combustor pressure on nitric oxide emission was investigated. Expansion of reaction region was more clear in the P$^{*}$ <1 conditions compared to the P$^{*}\geq1$ conditions, and it could be observed that flames are distinct in the P$^{*}\geq1$ conditions and that brightness is relative low and wide distribution is shown in the P$^{*}$ <1 conditions. In the respect of temperature distribution, narrow and high-temperature region was shown in the P$^{*}\geq1$ conditions. On the other hands, overall uniform temperature distributions were shown in the P$^{*}$ <1 conditions. Nitric oxide emission decreased with decreasing combustor pressure. This tendency was explained by the mean flame temperature distribution. Low NOx combustion is ascribed to wide-spread reaction region in the low combustor Pressure and oscillation were shown P$^{*}\leq0.97$, and strength and sizes of oscillation were more increased with lower pressure index. These results demonstrate that flame shape and nitric oxide emission can be controlled with changing combustor pressure.
The objective of this study is development of low emission pulverized coal combustor for reducing pollutant emission generated from coal combustion. Low emission combustion technology for reducing NOx and fly ash was investigated by using 2 stage coaxial cyclone combustor. Staged combustion was employed for NOx reduction and high temperature slagging combustion was also studied for fly ash removal in the combustor. The result of this study shows that the low emission combustion system can reduce the amount of atmospheric pollutions with improved boiler efficiency and performance.

The design and performance test of a low NOx gas turbine combustor to be used in 55kW class micro-gasturbine engine was performed in KARI's combustion test facility. The combustor is reverse flow-can type for easy installation of injector and other parts and LNG is used as fuel. The performance targets are $99.5\%$ combustion efficiency, less 10ppm NOx, $30\%$ patten factor and $4\%$ pressure loss. Most of the performances required are satisfied.
Air pollution included Nitric Oxide(NOx) from heating boilers is increased by pursuing better life. Development of low NOx emission boiler is strongly needed. However commercial burner for heating boiler is also asked to be thermal efficient and low-cost manufactuable in addition to low NOx emission. Small space for combustor including burner is usually allowed. In this study, parametric study of compact low NOx burner for heating boiler was done using numerical analysis and experiments. Commerical computational fluid dynamic(CFD) program named CFX 5-6 was used for numerical analysis of low NOx burner using turbulent diffusion flame. Comparison of outlet NO and outlet temperature under various equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate was performed between experiment and numerical analysis.
In order to reduce NOx emissions in the 20kW class microturbine under development, the low NOx characteristics, as being an application to the lean premixed combustion technology, have been investigated. The study has been conducted at the conditions of high temperature and high pressure. Theair from a compressor with the pressure of 2.5bar, 3.0bar, 3.5bar was supplied to the combustor with the temperature 560K through the air preheat-treatment. The sampling exhaust gas was measured at the immediate exit of the combustor. For the effect of temperature on NO and CO emissions, though NOx were increased, CO was decreased with increasing inlet air temperature. With increasing inlet air pressure, NOx were increased and CO was decreased also. NOx were decreased, but CO was increased with increasing inlet air mass flow rate. The test has been performed on the equivalent ratio of 0.10 to 0.16 in the lean region. NOx were increased with increasing equivalent ratio, but CO was decreased as an influence of flame temperature. CFD work with an appropriate combustion model predicated a complicated swirling flow pattern in the combustor, and also produced a numerical value of NOx and CO emissions which was to be compared with the experimental one. As the results of this study, NOx are expected to be reduced to less than 42ppm at 15% O2 when operated at the design condition of the 20kW class microturbine.
