  • For the W-band remote sensing radiometer, direct detection type radiometer receiver is designed. The receiver should be low noise and high gain of 60 dB unlike communication and radar receiver. The W-band radiometer consist of 4-stage low noise, high gain amplifier, band pass filter and square law detector. The developed direct detection receiver show 4 GHz bandwidth, 56 dB gain, and 4,500 mV/mW voltage sensitivity at integrator output port for -20 dBm input power at 94 GHz.

  • We designed and fabricated a low local oscillation (LO) power V-band CPW mixer module using a CPW-to-waveguide transition technology for the application of millimeter-wave wireless communication systems. The mixer was designed using a unique gate mixing architecture to achieve simultaneously a low LO input power, a high conversion gain, and good LO-RF isolation characteristics. The fabricated mixer exhibited a high conversion gain of 2 dB at a low LO power of 0 dBm. For data transmission of the 60 ㎓ wireless LNA systems, we fabricated a CPW-to-waveguide converter module of WR-15 type and mounted the fabricated mixer in the converter module. The fabricated V-band mixer exhibited a higher conversion gain and a lower LO input power than other reported V-band mixers.

  • In this paper, we propose a high gain, current reused ultra wideband (UWB) low noise amplifier (LNA) that uses TSMC 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. To satisfy the wide input matching and high voltage gain requirements with low power consumption, a resistive current reused technique is utilized in the first stage. A ${\pi}$-type LC network is adopted in the second stage to achieve sufficient gain over the entire frequency band. The proposed UWB LNA has a voltage gain of 12.9~18.1 dB and a noise figure (NF) of 4.05~6.21 dB over the frequency band of interest (1~10 GHz). The total power consumption of the proposed UWB LNA is 10.1 mW from a 1.4 V supply voltage, and the chip area is $0.95{\times}0.9$ mm.

  • The substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure can be approximated as the rectangular waveguide using common dielectric substrate with via-holes. To realize reflection-type resonator, $50-{\omega}$ microstrip line can be used for coupling with the center plane of the cavity. The oscillator is designed to operate at 9.45 GHz using the reflection-type SIW cavity resonator. The phase noise of oscillator shows -98.1dBc/Hz at 100 KHz offset. In experiment, the reflection type SIW cavity resonator improves the loaded quality factor making the low phase noise oscillator possible. Due to the entirely planar structure of this resonator, this technique can also be adequate in oscillator applications for a low cost and low phase noise performance.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a dual wideband dipole type antenna for the reception of S-DMB (Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) and 2.4/5 GHz WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) signals. The proposed antenna based on conventional monopole type dual band antenna was implemented as planar wideband dipole type antenna with the volume of $8{\times}33.8{\times}1.68mm^3$. The proposed antenna is printed type on FR4 substrate of 1.6 mm thick and composed of a dipole type antenna for low frequency band and two symmetric structured resonance elements for high frequency band. We confirmed antenna area with dense surface current for each frequency band with simulation. By varying the length of the antenna area with dense surface current, we could vary resonance frequency of each frequency band separately. Impedance bandwidths$(VSWR{\leq}2)$ are 362 MHz(14.23 %) for 2 GHz band and 1188 MHz(22.13, %) for 5 GHz band which show wideband characteristic. Measured maximum gains were 4.33 dBi for 2 GHz band and 5.48 dBi for 5 GHz band which showed improved performance. And the implemented antenna has a good omni-directional radiation pattern characteristic.

  • 9% nickel alloy steels used for LNG, cryogenic liquid, storage tank are welded with dissimilar Inconel or Hastelloy welding rod and the weldment shows similar characteristic with the dissimilar metal weld of low carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel. Band type indications are sometimes shown on the film during radiography test of the weldments. Thus this study identified whether the indications are non-relevant indications through material, radiographic test, ultrasonic test, liquid penetrant test and microstructure analysis and also proposed radiography film interpretation and cause of band type indications.

  • Performance test result on prototype car equipped with low-band type active suspension system is reported. Control theory is explained first. Simulation for feasibility and parameter tuning, control module test using hydraulic exciter and test run, and performance evaluation of the test car on test track are reported successively. Emphasis was put on modification of control theory which caused many unexpected problems in actual implementation.

  • This work describes the low-resolution spectral modeling of the water vapor, carbon dioxide and their mixtures by applying the weighted-sum-of-gray-gas-gases model (WSGGM) to each narrow band. Proper modeling scheme of gray gas absorption coefficients vs temperature relation is suggested. Comparison between the modeled emissivity calculated from this relation and the 'true' emissivity obtained from the high temperature statistical narrow band parameters is made for a few typical narrow bands. Low resolution spectral intensities from one-dimensional layers are also obtained and examined for uniform, parabolic and boundary layer type temperature profiles using the obtained WSGGM's with several gray gases. The results are compared with the narrow band spectral intensities obtained by a narrow band model-based code with Curtis-Godson approximation. Good agreement is found between them. Data bases including optimized modeling parameters and total and low-resolution spectral weighting factors are developed for water vapor, carbon dioxide and their mixtures. This model and obtained data bases, available from the authors' Internet site, can be appropriately applied to any radiative transfer equation solver.
