In this paper, we proposed a soft switched synchronous boost converter, which can perform discharging the battery, is proposed. The proposed converter has low switching loss even at high frequency operation due to its soft switching characteristics. The converter operates in synchronous mode to minimize conduction loss because of changing the rectified diode to MOSFET with a low on resistance. In this reason, the efficiency of the converter can be greatly improved in high frequency. In this paper, the battery discharger with a switching frequency of 100 kHz, has been designed. The designed converter also simulated to prove the converter's characteristics of synchronous operation as well as soft switching operation. The simulation shows that the proposed converter always meets the soft switching conditions of turning on and off switching in the zero voltage and zero current states. Therefore, simulation results have confirmed that the proposed battery discharge had soft switching characteristics. The simulation results have confirmed that the proposed battery discharger had soft switching and synchronous operation characteristics.

Currently Energy-Saving (ES) methods in cellular networks could be improved, as compensation method for irregular Base Station (BS) deployment is not effective, most regional ES algorithm is complex, and performance decline caused by ES action is not evaluated well. To resolve above issues, a low-complexity energy efficient BS cooperation mechanism for Long Time Evolution (LTE) networks is proposed. The mechanism firstly models the ES optimization problem with coverage, resource, power and Quality of Service (QoS) constraints. To resolve the problem with low complexity, it is decomposed into two sub-problems: BS Mode Determination (BMD) problem and User Association Optimization (UAO) problem. To resolve BMD, regional dynamic multi-stage algorithms with BS cooperation pair taking account of load and geographic topology is analyzed. And then a distributed heuristic algorithm guaranteeing user QoS is adopted to resolve UAO. The mechanism is simulated under four LTE scenarios. Comparing to other algorithms, results show that the mechanism can obtain better energy efficiency with acceptable coverage, throughput, and QoS performance.

In this paper an optimal switching angle control of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system is investigated for achieving maximum energy conversion ratio. A new magnetizing method is proposed with a low switching frequency. The proposed algorithm maximizes the positive energy conversion region, which is directly related to the mechanical output, and reduces the reactive power region with the same field energy region. As a consequence, a torque ripple is also sufficiently reduced compared with that of the conventional switching angle magnetizing method. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides a high efficiency and a low ripple drive.

This paper utilizes free oscillation and energy injection principles to generate and control the high frequency current in the primary track of a contactless power transfer system. Here the primary power inverter maintains natural resonance while ensuring near constant current magnitude in the primary track as required for multiple independent loads. Such energy injection controllers exhibit low switching frequency and achieve ZCS (Zero Current Switching) by detecting the high frequency current, thus the switching stress, power losses and EMI of the inverter are low. An example full bridge topology is investigated for a contactless power transfer system with multiple pickups. Theoretical analysis, simulation and experimental results show that the proposed system has a fast and smooth start-up transient response. The output track current is fully controllable with a sufficiently good waveform for contactless power transfer applications.

This paper proposes a new soft switching technique for a phase-shift controlled bi-directional DC-DC converter. The described converter employs a low profile high frequency transformer and two active full-bridge converters for bidirectional power flow capability. A new soft switching technique is proposed, which guarantees soft switching over wide range (no load to full load) without any additional circuit components. In the proposed switching scheme, the switch pairs in the diagonal position of the converter each are turned on/off simultaneously by the switching signals with a variable duty ratio depending on the phase shift amount, and the converter is operated without freewheeling interval.
This paper presents a low power boost converter using offset controlled Zero Current Sensor (ZCS) control for thermoelectric energy harvesting.[1] [5] Offset controlled ZCS uses adjustable pre-offset that is controled by 6bit code each connected gate of NMOS for switching. Offset controlled ZCS demonstrates an efficiency that is higher than using analog comparator ZCS and that is smaller area than using delay line ZCS. Experimentally, the offset controlled ZCS system consumes 10 times less power than analog comparator ZCS based system at similar performance.

In this paper, new high-efficiency zero voltage switching (ZVS) AC-DC boost converter is proposed to achieve power factor correction by simplifing energy recovery circuit. A lot of high power factor correction circuits have been proposed and applied to increase input power factor and efficiency. Most of these circuits may obtain unity power factor and achieve sinusoidal current waveform with zero voltage or/and zero current switching. However, it is difficult for them to obtain low cost, small size, low weight, and low noise. The topology proposed to improve these problems can compact the devices in circuit and can achieve high efficiency ZVS AC-DC boost converter. Simulation and experimental results show that this topology is capable of obtaining high power factor and increasing the efficiency of the system.
Nowadays, energy saving has become a hot topic and information and communication technology has become a major power consumer. In long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) networks, heterogeneous deployments of low-power nodes and conventional macrocells provide some new features, such as coverage extension, throughput enhancement, and load balancing. However, a large-scale deployment of low-power nodes brings substantial energy consumption and interference problems. In this paper, we propose a novel switching strategy (NS), which adaptively switches on or off some low-power nodes based on the instantaneous load of the system. It is compatible with the microcells' load balancing feature and can be easily implemented on the basis of existing LTE-A specifications. Moreover, we develop an analytical model for analyzing the performance of system energy consumption, block rate, throughput, and energy efficiency. The performance of NS is evaluated by comparison with existing strategies. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that NS not only has a low block rate, but also achieves a high energy efficiency.

This study proposes an enhanced switching pattern that can improve energy transfer efficiency in an active cell-balancing circuit using a multiwinding transformer. This balancing circuit performs cell balancing by transferring energy stored in a specific cell with high energy to another cell containing low energy through a multiwinding transformer. The circuit operates in flyback and buck-boost modes in accordance with the energy transfer path. In the conventional flyback mode, the leakage inductance of the transformer and the stray inductance component of winding can transfer energy to an undesired path during the balancing operation. This case results in cell imbalance during the cell-balancing process, which reduces the energy transfer efficiency. An enhanced switching pattern that can effectively perform cell balancing by minimizing the amount of energy transferred to the nontarget cells due to the leakage inductance components in the flyback mode is proposed. Energy transfer efficiency and balancing speed can be significantly improved using the proposed switching pattern compared with that using the conventional switching pattern. The performance improvements are verified by experiments using a 1 W prototype cell-balancing circuit.
A new high efficiency and low profile on-board DC/DC converter for digital car audio amplifiers is proposed. The proposed converter shows low conduction loss due to the low voltage stress of the secondary diodes, a lack of DC magnetizing current for the transformer, and a lack of stored energy in the transformer. Moreover, since the primary MOSFETs are turned-on under zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) conditions and the secondary diodes are turned-off under zero-current-switching (ZCS) conditions, the proposed converter has minimized switching losses. In addition, the input filter can be minimized due to a continuous input current, and an output inductor is absent in the proposed converter. Therefore, the proposed converter has the desired features, high efficiency and low profile, for a viable power supply for digital car audio amplifiers. A 60W industrial sample of the proposed converter has been implemented for digital car audio amplifiers with a measured efficiency of $88.3\%$ at nominal input voltage.
