This study aims to analyze the factors that influence people's behavioral intentions to recycle waste and focus on people's perceptions of informal waste recycling. The low level of participation in the e-waste recycling process makes research on the factors that encourage household interactions in sorting waste or recycling waste a priority. The purpose of this study is to build a comprehensive model and examine the relationship between perceptions of informal recycling, implementation e-waste management, behavioral intention, convenience of recycling and perceived behavioral control. The framework is the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The implementation variable e-waste management is used to mediate the relationship between the two constructs. Respondents in this study were cellular phone users who had changed their phones. The number of respondents in this study totaled 165, using the purposive sampling technique. Data analysis techniques in this study used PLS-SEM with WarpPLS version 6.0. The findings show that: (1) perception of informal recycling, e-waste management, and behavioral intention have a significant positive effect; (2) management of e-waste, perception behavioral control and behavioral intention have a positive effect; and (3) the implementation of e-waste management, which causes the convenience of recycling, will increase the intensity of behavior, indicating the results are rejected.

When concrete is exposed to neutron rays for a long time, the concrete tends to become activated. If activated, it is classified as middle or low level radioactive waste. However, the great amount of the activated concrete is hard to dispose. In this study, low-activation cement was developed for decreasing the activated waste from shielding concrete around nuclear reactor. Furthermore, the manufactured low-activation was analyzed with activation nuclide Eu, Co. The low-activation cement showed great advantage for low-activation with detecting none of Eu and 3.75ppm of Co while ordinary portland cement showed 0.4~0.9ppm of Eu, 5.5~19.8ppm of Co content. As the results of physical properties of the low-activation cement, it is similar to type 1 ordinary portland cement and accords with type 4 low heat portland cement. Meanwhile, as for the chemical properties of the cement, it accords wite type 1 and 4 at the same time.

After the permanent shutdown of K1 in 2017, decommissioning processes have attracted great attention. According to the current decommissioning roadmap, the dismantling of the activated components of K1 may start in 2026, following the removal of its spent fuel. Since the reactor vessel (RV) and reactor vessel internal (RVI) of K1 contain massive components and are relatively highly activated, their decommissioning process should be conducted carefully in terms of radiological and industrial safety. For achieving maximum efficiency of nuclear waste management processes for K1, we present activation analysis of the segmentation process and waste classification of the RV and RVI components of K1. For RVI, the active fuel regions and some parts of the upper and lower active regions are classified as intermediate-level waste (ILW), while other components are classified as low-level waste (LLW). Due to the RVI's complex structure and high activation, we suggest various underwater segmentation techniques which are expected to reduce radiation exposure and generate approximately nine ILW and nineteen very low level waste (VLLW)/LLW packages. For RV, the active fuel region and other components are classified as LLW, VLLW, and clearance waste (CW). In this case, we suggest in-situ remote segmentation in air, which is expected to generate approximately forty-two VLLW/LLW packages.
The adsorption characteristics of ammonia on MSWI bottom ash were investigated. The effect of the variation of the landfill environmental parameters including pH, anions and organic matter on the adsorption process was discussed. Results showed that the adsorption could be well described by pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 156.2 mg/g. The optimum adsorption of ammonia was observed when the pH was 6.0. High level of ion and organic matter could restrict the adsorption to a low level. The above results suggested that MSWI bottom ash could affect the migration of ammonia in the landfill, which is related to the variation of the landfill circumstance.

The usefulness of vitrification technology for low- and intermediate- level radioactive wastes was demonstrated because of high volume reduction, mechanical and chemical stability of final waste forms. Thus, a construction of the commercial vitrification plant Is currently promoted. Due to the high radiation level of the waste, shielding analysis has to be carried out for safe design in a vitrification facility. Because there has been no experience in the construction and operation of the vitrification facility in Korea, in this study, in order to get some information for help the detailed design and plan for operation in vitrification facility, shielding analysis for each facility in pilot plant is carried out by using source term from established study. For the selection of the shielding material, concrete was chosen compared to the lead because of economic advantage, weight consideration, and thermal resistance.

Recently, the medium-low level radioactive waste from nuclear power plant must be transported from temporary storage to the final repository. Medium-low level radioactive waste, which is composed mainly of the liquid ion exchange resin, has been consolidated with cementitious material in the plastic or iron container. Since cementitious material is brittle, it would generate cracks by impact load during transportation, signifying leakage of radioactive ray. In order to design the safety transporting equipment, there is a need to check the compressive strength of the current waste. However, because it is impossible to measure strength by direct method due to leakage of radioactive ray, we will estimate the strength indirectly by the dynamic modulus of elasticity. Therefore, it must be identified the relationship between of strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity. According to the waste acceptance criteria, the compressive strength of cement based solid is defined as more than 3.44 MPa (500 psi). Compressive strength of the present solid is likely to be significantly higher than this baseline because of continuous hydration of cement during long period. On this background, we have tried to produce the specimens of the 28 day's compressive strength of 3 to 30 MPa having the same material composition as the solid product for the medium-low level radioactive waste, and analyze the relationship between the strength and the dynamic modulus of elasticity. By controling the addition rates of AE agent, we made the mixture containing the ion exchange resin and showing the target compressive strength (3~30 MPa). The dynamic modulus of elasticity of this mixtures is 4.1~10.2 GPa, about 20 GPa lower in the equivalent compressive strength level than that of ordinary concrete, and increasing the discrepancy according to increase strength. The compressive strength and the dynamic modulus of elasticity show the liner relationship.

To ensure the safety of disposal facilities for radioactive waste, it is essential to quantitatively evaluate the performance of the waste disposal facilities by using safety assessment models. This paper addresses the development of the safety assessment model for the underground silo of Wolseong Low-and Immediate-Level Waste (LILW) disposal facility in Korea. As the simulated result, the nuclides diffused from the waste were kept inside the silo without the leakage of those while the integrity of the concrete is maintained. After the degradation of concrete, radionuclides migrate in the same direction as the groundwater flow by mainly advection mechanism. The release of radionuclides has a positive linear relationship with a half-life in the range of medium half-life. Additionally, the solidified waste form delays and reduces the migration of radionuclides through the interaction between the nuclides and the solidified medium. Herein, the phenomenon of this delay was implemented with the mass transfer coefficient of the flux node at numerical modeling. The solidification effects, which are delaying and reducing the leakage of nuclides, were maintained the integrity of the nuclides. This effect was decreased by increasing the half-life and the mass transfer coefficient of radionuclides.
