  • In this paper, the intelligent vision system for an effective and intelligent path-planning of an industrial AGV system based on stereo camera system is proposed. The depth information and disparity map are detected in the inputting images of a parallel stereo camera. The distance between the industrial AGV system and the obstacle detected and the 2D path coordinates obtained from the location coordinates, and then the relative distance between the obstacle and the other objects obtained from them. The industrial AGV system move automatically by effective and intelligent path-planning using the obtained 2D path coordinates. From some experiments on AGV system driving with the stereo images, it is analyzed that error ratio between the calculated and measured values of the distance between the objects is found to be very low value of 2% on average, respectably.

  • Saliency detection in neurobiology is a vehement research during the last few years, several cognitive and interactive systems are designed to simulate saliency model (an attentional mechanism, which focuses on the worthiest part in the image). In this paper, a bottom up saliency detection model is proposed by taking into account the color and luminance frequency features of RGB, CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ color space of the image. We employ low-level features of image and apply band pass filter to estimate and highlight salient region. We compute the likelihood probability by applying Bayesian framework at pixels. Experiments on two publically available datasets (MSRA and SED2) show that our saliency model performs better as compared to the ten state of the art algorithms by achieving higher precision, better recall and F-Measure.

  • Angiostrongyliasis, caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis infection, is a food-borne parasitic disease. Its larvae evoke eosinophilic inflammation in the central nervous system, but can also cause pathological changes in the eyes. Among ocular angiostrongyliasis cases, the incidence of optic neuritis is low and only few sporadic reports exist. Some patients with optic neuritis developed obvious hypopsia or even vision loss, which would seriously influence the quality of life of patients. Prompt treatment of optic neuritis caused by A. cantonensis is the key factor for minimizing the incidence of serious complications of this disease. In this review, we first provide a comprehensive overview of ocular angiostrongyliasis, and then focus on the clinical features of optic neuritis caused by A. cantonensis.

  • 3D face tracking is one of essential techniques in computer vision such as surveillance, HCI (Human-Computer Interface), Entertainment and etc. However, 3D face tracking demands high computational cost. It is a serious obstacle to applying 3D face tracking to mobile devices which usually have low computing capacity. In this paper, to reduce computational cost of 3D tracking and extend 3D face tracking to mobile devices, an efficient particle filtering method using MLESAC(Maximum Likelihood Estimation SAmple Consensus) motion estimation is proposed. Finally, its speed and performance are evaluated experimentally.

  • The fishing industry requires many workers to manually carry out the jobs of sorting and cutting fishes. There are therefore many dangerous situations in their working environment and the throughput is inefficiently low. This paper introduces an automatic fin cutting system based on RANSAC that is able to increase the throughput of fish processing jobs. The system proposed in this paper first detects the edges of a fish using a high-pass filter. The boundary lines between fin and body are then detected by adjusting parameters and the threshold of the noise filters. Finally, the optimal cutting lines are detected using RANSAC. Through an experiment with a sample of 50 fishes, this paper shows that the proposed system detects the cutting lines with about 90% accuracy.

  • There has been a great interest in printing technology as a low cost and mass production method for the application of printed electronics such as printed TFT, solar cell, RFID Tag, printed battery, and so on. In this study, apparatuses of gravure-offset printing are developed for fine line-width/gap printing and examining pattern distortion occurred in gravure-offset printing process. The fine line-width/gap pattern shows that it is possible to make around 20 micro-meter line-width/gap printing patterns. Pattern distortion is modeled, and the amount and shape of the distortion are calculated by using commercial FEM code. The roll-to-roll printing system under development consists of unwinder/rewinder, two printing units, one coating unit, drying units, guiding unit, vision system, and other auxiliary devices. For multi-layer printing, the system is designed to be capable of printing two different materials.

  • The main purpose of this study is to find what steps are needed for a system for CO2 emissions trading to be formulated as government policy, using System Thinking approach. First, this paper analyzed Korean newspapers to consider the social issue regarding CO2 emissions trading. There were more articles related to international issues than domestic ones before 2008. This trend, however, became reversed from January 2008, which means that consideration of CO2 emissions trading has been discussed as a domestic social issue from 2008. Second, it analyzed speeches by former president Roh Moo-Hyun and current president Lee Myung-bak. In particularly, President Lee Myung-bak declared "Low Carbon and Green Growth" as a new growth engine and a Korea's vision of the future national development. Third, it examined which government agencies, including departments and committees, are pursuing policies regarding climate change, global warming, and CO2 emissions trading. Most policy has originated in the Ministry of Environment, although policy alternatives have been proposed in other agencies including the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The study concludes that the political consideration has played a major role in the policy agenda-setting process of the CO2 emissions trading in Korea.

  • There is substantial evidence from earlier researches that older adults have difficult seeing under low illumination and at night, even in the absence of ocular diseases. During human aging, there is a rampant decrease in rod/cone-meditated adaptation which is caused by delayed rhodopsin regeneration and pigment depletion. This calls for a need to develop appropriate visual gadgets to effectively aid the aging generation. Our research culminates its approach from Pattanaik's model by making extensions to temporal visual filtering, thereby simulating a reduction of visual response which comes with age. Our filtering model paves way and lays a foundation for future research to develop a more effective adaptation model that may be further used in developing visual content adaptation aids and guidelines in MPEG 21 environment. We demonstrate our visual model using a High Dynamic Range image and the experiment results are in conversant with the psychophysical data from previous vision researches.

  • A Dokdo wind resource map has been drawn up for the Green Island Energy Master Plan according to Korea's national vision for 'Low Carbon Green Growth'. The micro-siting software WindSim v5.1,which is based on Computational Flow Analysis, is used with MERRA reanalysis data as synoptic climatology input data, and sensitivity analysis on turbulence model is accompanied. A wind resource assessment has been conducted for the Dokdo wind power dissemination plan, which consists of two 10kW wind turbines to be installed at the Dongdo dock and Dokdo guard building. It is evaluated that the capacity factors at Dongdo dock and Dokdo guard building are about 20% and 30% respectively, and annual and hourly variations of wind power generation have been analyzed, but summertime energy production is predicted to be only 40% of wintertime energy production.

  • Detecting defects on FPD (Flat Panel Display) color filter before the full panel is made is important to reduce the manufacturing cost. Among many types of defects, the low contrast blemish such as Suzi Mura is difficult to detect using standard CCD cameras. Even skilled inspectors in the inspection line can hardly identify such defects using bare eyes. To overcome this difficulty, point spectrometer has been used to analyze the spectrum to differentiate such defects from normal color filters. However, scanning ever increasing-size color filters by a point spectrometer takes too long time to be used in real production line. We propose a system using a spectral camera which can be viewed as a line scan camera composed of an array of point spectrometers. Three types of lighting system that exhibit different illumination spectrums are devised together with a calibration method of the proposed spectral camera system. To visualize the defect areas, various processing algorithms to identify and to enhance the small differences in spectrum between defective and normal areas are developed. Experiments shows 85% successful visualization. of real samples using the proposed system.
