  • Microstructure and permeability as a function of sintering temperature and composition were studied on the Ni$\delta$Cu0.4-$\delta$Zn0.6Fe2O4 ($\delta$=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4) which was prepared by Cu2+ substitution for Ni2+ in Ni.0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4, then followed by 8 wt% CuO and 1wt% Bi2O3 as sintering aids. It was found that NiCuZn ferrite in which Cu2+ is substituted for Ni2+ is more effective in reduction of sintering temperature than Ni.0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4, containing CuO as a sintering aid. The specimen $\delta$=0.2 sintered at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hr exhibited the highest initial permeability value ($\mu$o=280 at 1Mhz), but the real permeability decreased at the frequency under 10 MHz. EPMA analysis showed that Ni$\delta$Cu0.4-$\delta$Zn0.6Fe2O4 ($\delta$=0.4), sintered at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs consisted of three phase regions of Ni.0.3Cu0.1Zn0.6Fe2O4 region, Cu and Bi liquid existed at the 3-point boundary, although the stabilization energy of Ni2+ is higher than that of Cu2+ in B site.

  • Composition and process conditions for low temperature sintered NiCuZn ferrites were investigated, so as to fabricate multilayered chip inductor. The$Fe_2O_3$ deficiency for low temperature sintering was decreased with NiO contents of NiCuZn ferrites. The permeability of NiCuZn ferrites can be controlled in the range of 12~562 with the variation of NiO and $Co_3O_4$ contents. The $Q_{max} $ frequency of NiCuZn ferrites was decreased from 50 MHz to 3 MHz linearly with permeability increase from 60 to 560. The relation between the $Q_{max}$ frequency(Y) and permeability(X) of NiCuZn ferrites was expressed with the following empirical equation, logY=4.2-1.4logX.

  • The effect of Cu substitution on the properties of NiZn ferrites sintered at low temperature with composition is investigated. The densification of NiCuZn ferrite in dependent upon Cu content in the composition of (N/sub 0.5-x/Cu/sub x/ Zn/sub 0.5/O)(Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3/)/sub 0.98/. Electrical resistivity is maximum at x=0.2. Dispersion characteristics of complex permeability of (Ni/sub 0.5-x/ Cu/sub x/Zn/sub 0.5/O)(Fe/sub 2/O/sub 3)/sub 0.98/ is observed above x=0.3 and relaxation frequency increases with higher temperature. The magnetic loss of NiCuZn ferrite is occurred above the Cu content x=0.3 at a low frequency.

  • We have synthesized the low temperature sintered of Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite with nonstoichiometric composition a little deficient in $Fe_2O_3$ from $(Ni_{0.2}Cu_{0.2}Zn_{0.6})_{1+x}(Fe_2O_3)_{1-x}$. For low loss and acceleration of grain growth $TiO_2$ and $Li_2CO_3$ was added from 0.25 mol% to 1.0 mol%. The mixture of the law materials was calcinated and milled. The compacts of toroidal type were sintered at different temperature $(875^{\circ}C,\;900^{\circ}C,\;925^{\circ}C\;950^{\circ}C)$ for 2 hours in air followed by an air cooling. Then, effects of composition and sintering temperatures on the physical properties such as density, resistivity, magnetic induction, coercive force, initial permeability, and quality factor of the Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite were investigated. The density of the Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite was $4.85\sim5.32g/cm^3$, resistivity revealed $10^8\sim10^{12}\Omega-cm$. The magnetic properties obtained from the aforementioned Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite specimens were 1,300 gauss for the maximum induction, 4.5 oersted for the coercive force, 275 for the initial permeability, and 83 for the quality factor. The physical properties indicated that the specimens could be utilized as the core of high frequency range (involved microwave range) communication and deflection yoke of T.V.

  • In order to apply a complex multilayer chip LC filter, this study has estimated the interfacial reaction and coupling properties of dielectric materials $Pb(Fe_{1/2}Nb_{1/2})O_3$ and Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite materials through low-temperature co-sintering (LTCS). PFN powders were fabricated using double calcinated at $700^{\circ}C$ and then $850^{\circ}C$. While the perovskite phase rate was found to be 91 %, after heat treatment at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6h, the perovskite phase rate and density exhibited a value of 100 % and 7.46$g/cm^3$, respectively. The PFN/Ni-Zn-Cu ferrite, PFN/CUO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) and ferrite/CuO (or $Pb_2Fe_2O_5$) were mechanically coupled through interfacial reactions after the specimen was co-sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 6 h. No intermediate layer exists for the mutual coupling reaction. This result indicates the possibility of low-temperature co-sintering without any interfacial reaction layer for a multilayer chip LC filter.

  • In this study, nano-sized NiCuZn-ferrites for the multi-layered chip inductor application were prepared by a coprecipitation method and its electromagnetic properties were analyzed. Also, the property of low temperature sintering were studied with the initial heat treatment of powder.$(Ni_{0.4-x}Cu_xZn_{0.60})_{1+w}(Fe_2O_4)_{1-w}$ (x=0.2, w=0.03) were calcined at $300^{circ}C~750^{circ}C.$ The sintered NiCuZn-ferrites at $900^{\circ}C$ showed good apparent density $4.90g/cm^3,$ and magnetic properties of initial permeability 164 and quality factor 72. As the calcination temperature increase, the grain size of NiCuZn-ferrite increased with irregular grain distribution and its magnetic properties were deteriorated.

  • [ $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Al_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ ] nano-glass has been prepared by sol-gel method. The mean particle size was 60.3 nm with narrow size distribution. The nano-galss has been used as a sintering aid for the densification of the NiZnCu ferrites. The ferrite was sintered with nano-glass sintering aids at $840{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, 2 h and the initial permeability, quality factor, density, and saturation magnetization were also measured. The initial permeability of 0.5 wt% nano-glass added toroidal sample for NiZnCu ferrites sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ was 193.3 at 1 MHz. The initial permeability and saturation magnetization were increased with increasing annealing temperature. As a result, $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Al_2O_3-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ nano-glass systems were found to be useful as sintering aids for multilayer chip inductors.

  • The initial NiCuZn synthetic ferrite were acquired from thermally decomposing the metal nitrates $Fe(NO_3)_39H_2O, Zn(NO_3)_26H_2O, Ni(NO_3)_26H_2O, and Cu(NO_3)_23H_2O$ at $150^circ{C}$ for 24 hours, and then we calcined the synthetic powder at $500^circ{C}$, pulverized each of those for 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 hours in a steel ball mill, sintered each at $700^circ{C}$ to $1,000^circ{C}$ for 1 hour, and thus studied their microstructures and electromagnetic properties. We could make the initial specimens chemically bonded in liquidity at a low-temperature $150^circ{C}$, by using the low melting points less than $200^circ{C}$ of the metal nitrates instead of the mechanical ball-mill pulverization, then narrow a distance between the particles into a molecular one, and thus lower the reaction point of sintering by at least $200^circ{C}$ to $300^circ{C}$. Their initial permeability was 50 to 400 and their maximum magnetic induction density and coercive force, 2,400 G and 0.3 Oe to 0.5 Oe respectively, which was similar to those of NiZnCu ferrite synthesized in the conventional process. In the graph of initial permeability by frequencies, a $180^circ{C}$ rotation of the magnetic domains which appears in a broad band of micro-wave before and after the resonance frequency, could be perceived.

  • The initial NiCuZn synthetic ferrite were acquired from thermally decomposing the metal nitrates Fe($NO_3$)$_3$$9H_2$O, Zn($NO_3$)$_2$$6H_2$O, Ni($NO_3$3)$_2$$6H_2$O and Cu(NO$_3$)$_2$$3H_2$O at 1$50^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours and was calcined at $500^{\circ}C$. Each of those was pulverized for 3 and 9 hours in a steel ball mill and was sintered between $700^{\circ}C$ and $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, and then their microstructures and magnetic properties were examined. We could make the initial specimens chemically bonded in liquid at the temperature as low as $150 ^{\circ}C$, by using the melting points less than $ 200^{\circ}C$ of the metal nitrates instead of the mechanical ball milling, then narrowed a distance between the particles into a molecular level, and thus lowed sintering temperature by at least $200 ^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$ Their initial permeability was 50 to 490 and their saturation magnetic induction density and coercive force 2,400G and 0.3 Oe to 1.2 Oe each, which were similar to those of NiCuZn ferrite synthesized in the conventional process.
