Ferrite-Bainite dual phase 강의 피로균열진전 특성 평가 (A Study of Fatigue Crack Growth Behaviour for Ferrite-Bainite Dual Phase Steel)

  • With the recent increase in size of ships and offshore structures, there are more demand for thicker plates. As the thickness increases, it is known that fatigue life of the structures decrease. To improve the fatigue life, post weld treatments techniques, such as toe grinding, TIG dressing and hammer peening, are typically employed. However, these techniques require additional construction time and production cost. Therefore, it is of crucial interest steels with longer fatigue crack growth life compared to conventional steels. This study investigates fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) behaviours of conventional EH36 steel and Ferrite-Bainite dual phase EH36 steel (F-B steel). F-B steel is known to have improved fatigue performance associated with the existence of two different phases. Ferrite-Bainite dual phase microstructures are obtained by special thermo mechanical control process (TMCP). FCGR behaviours are investigated by a series of constant stress-controlled FCGR tests. Considering all test conditions (ambient, low temperature, high stress ratio), it is shown that FCGR of F-B steel is slower than that of conventional EH36 steel. From the tensile tests and impact tests, F-B steel exhibits higher values of strength and impact energy leading to slower FCGR.

DBS 수신을 위한 Dual Phase LNB 설계 (The Design of Dual Phase LNB for DBS Receiving)

  • DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite)는 광범위한 주사영역과 고품질의 서비스를 제공하므로 정보화 사회에서 매우 유용한 매체로 활용되고 있으며 이동체에서도 위성 방송을 수신할 수 있는 기술을 필요로 한다. 본 논문에서는 한반도 연근해를 항해구역으로 하는 선박과 육상 이동체에서 DBS 수신이 가능한 trracking antenna용 Dual phase LNB를 설계하였다. 설계한 Dual phase LNB는 저잡음 증폭기 대역통과 필터 발진기, 혼합기, 중간주파 증폭기로 구성하였고 위치 추적을 위해 각각 두 입 출력 위상을 동위상으로 구현하였다. 측정 결과, 11.7 GHz~12.2 GHz의 입력신호에 대하여 잡음지수는 0.87 dBmax, 변환이득 62 dB이고, 온도특성은 $-30^{\circ}C{\sim}60^{\circ}C$에서 ${\pm}400$ kHz이고 위상잡음은 100 kHz 옵셋에서 -101 dBc/Hz로서 우수한 성능을 나타내었다.

기압 고도계를 이용한 GPS 수직오차 개선 (Improving GPS Vertical Error Using Barometric Altimeter)

  • 위성항법시스템 (GPS; global positioning system)은 도심지의 빌딩이나 터널, 고가도로와 같은 지형적 환경에 의해 전파 수신이 어려워지면 가시 위성의 개수가 급격히 줄어들어 위치오차가 매우 커지거나 측위가 불가능하게 된다. 특히 수직 위치오차는 GPS의 기하학적 배치에 의한 한계로 인하여 수평오차보다 약 1.5 배 이상 크며 혹독한 신호 환경에서는 수평오차보다 더욱 크게 증가하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 GPS의 수직오차 개선을 위해 GPS와 저가형 기압 고도계의 결합 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법은 기압 고도계에 의하여 제공된 기압 고도 측정치에 해면기압과 해면온도에 의한 보상치와 지오이드고를 적용시킨 후 칼만필터에 의하여 GPS 고도와 기압 고도를 융합하는 특징을 가진다. 정적 실험과 차량 실험을 통하여 제안된 기압 고도계와 GPS의 융합 방식의 정확도를 평가하였다. 그 결과 제안된 방법이 고도 정보의 정확도를 크게 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.

High Performance Adjustable-Speed Induction Motor Drive System Incorporating Sensorless Vector Controlled PWM Inverter with Auto-Tuning Machine-Operated Parameter Estimation Schemes

  • This paper presents a feasible development on a highly accurate quick response adjustable speed drive implementation fur general purpose induction motor which operates on the basis of sensorless slip frequency type vector controlled sine-wave PWM inverter with an automatic tuning machine parameter estimation schemes. In the first place, the sensorless vector control theory on the three-phase voltage source-fed inverter induction motor drive system is developed in slip frequency based vector control principle. In particular, the essential procedure and considerations to measure and estimate the exact stator and rotor circuit parameters of general purpose induction motor are discussed under its operating conditions. The speed regulation characteristics of induction motor operated by the three-phase voltage-fed type current controlled PWM inverter using IGBT's is illustrated and evaluated fur machine parameter variations under the actual conditions of low frequency and high frequency operations for the load torque. In the second place, the variable speed induction motor drive system, employing sensorless vector control scheme which is based on three -phase high frequency carrier PWM inverter with automatic toning estimation schemes of the temperature -dependent and -independent machine circuit parameters, is practically implemented using DSP-based controller. Finally, the dynamic speed response performances for largely changed load torque disturbances as well as steady state speed vs. torque characteristics of this induction motor control implementation are illustrated and discussed from an experimental point of view.

Progress in $MgB_2$ Superconductor Wires and Tapes

  • We report on the progress that has been made in developing $MgB_2$ superconducting wires and tapes for commercialization and research efforts. A number of techniques have been developed to overcome the obstacle posed by the poor critical current density ($J_c$) of pristine $MgB_2$. Chemical doping has proved to be the effective way to modify and enhance the superconducting properties, such as the $J_c$ and the irreversibility field ($B_{irr}$). More than 100 different types of dopants have been investigated over the past 8 years. Among these, the most effective dopants have been identified to be SiC and malic acid ($C_4H_6O_5$). The best results, viz. a $B_{irr}$ of 22 T and $J_c$ of $30,000\;A{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ at 4.2 K and 10 T, were reported for malic acid doped $MgB_2$ wires, which matched the benchmark performance of commercial low temperature superconductor wires. In this work, we discuss the progress made in $MgB_2$ conductors over the past few years at the University of Wollongong, Hyper Tech Research, Inc., and Ohio State University.

Zn$_2$SiO$_4$:Mn 녹색형광체의 입도제어 및 발광특성 (Control of Particle Size and Luminescence Property in Zn$_2$SiO$_4$:Mn Green Phosphor)

  • PDP용 녹색 형광체의 발광특성을 개선시키기 위해 고안된 액상의 화학적 합성법을 사용하여 조성식이 $Zn_{2-x}$ $SiO_4$:xMn(x=0.05, 0.08)인 형광체를 입자크기가 0.5~2$\mu\textrm{m}$로 조절하여 제조하였다. 제조된 형광체 입자는 구상이며 잘 분산된 형상을 봉주었고, 고상반응법에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 $1080^{\circ}C$에서 willemite구조의 단일상을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 진공 자외선 영역의 147 nm의 여기원을 사용하여 광발광 특성을 조사하였다. 입자의 크기가 1$\mu\textrm{m}$이고 Mn의 도핑양이 8mole%일 때, 상용 형광체와 비교하여 발광세기는 약 40% 향상되었고 색좌표는 x=0.24, y=0.69로 거의 일치하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 측정된 형광체의 잔광시간은 7.8ms이었다.

  • 에폭시 (EP) 수지와 폴리우레탄(PU) 으로 제조된 블렌드 시스템의 접촉각과 기계적 특성을 연구하였다. EP의 경화제로 20 phr의 DDM (4,4'-diamino diphenyl methane)이 사용되었으며 EP/PU의 함량은 100/0~100/60까지 변화시켰다. 접촉각은 Rame-Hart goniometer를 사용 하였으며 젖음액으로는 증류수와 diiodomethane을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 geometric 방법을 사용한 Owens-Wendt와 Wu's model이 블렌드 시스템의 표면 자유에너지를 알아보는데 사용되었다. 시편의 기계적 성질과 강인성은 임계 응력 세기 인자(critical stress intensity factor, $K_{IC}$)와 충격 강도 시험을 통하여 알아보았다. 그리고 특히 충격 강도는 상온과 극저온에서 알아보았다. 그 결과로서, 블렌드 시스템에 있어서 표면 자유에너지의 극성 요소는 저온에서 충격 강도를 증가시키는 PU의 함량에 크게 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있었다.

정수장 전염소 공정 제어를 위한 침전지 잔류 염소 농도 예측모델 개발 (Prediction Models of Residual Chlorine in Sediment Basin to Control Pre-chlorination in Water Treatment Plant)

  • In order to maintain constant residual chlorine in sedimentation basin, It is necessary to develop real time prediction model of residual chlorine considering water treatment plant data such as water qualities, weather, and plant operation conditions. Based on the operation data acquired from K water treatment plant, prediction models of residual chlorine in sediment basin were accomplished. The input parameters applied in the models were water temperature, turbidity, pH, conductivity, flow rate, alkalinity and pre-chlorination dosage. The multiple regression models were established with linear and non-linear model with 5,448 data set. The corelation coefficient (R) for the linear and non-linear model were 0.39 and 0.374, respectively. It shows low correlation coefficient, that is, these multiple regression models can not represent the residual chlorine with the input parameters which varies independently with time changes related to weather condition. Artificial neural network models are applied with three different conditions. Input parameters are consisted of water quality data observed in water treatment process based on the structure of auto-regressive model type, considering a time lag. The artificial neural network models have better ability to predict residual chlorine at sediment basin than conventional linear and nonlinear multi-regression models. The determination coefficients of each model in verification process were shown as 0.742, 0.754, and 0.869, respectively. Consequently, comparing the results of each model, neural network can simulate the residual chlorine in sedimentation basin better than mathematical regression models in terms of prediction performance. This results are expected to contribute into automation control of water treatment processes.

In vitro evaluation of resistance to sliding in self-ligating and conventional bracket systems during dental alignment

  • Objective: To investigate the resistance to sliding (RS) in self-ligating and conventional ligation bracket systems at 5 different second-order bracket angulations by using low-stiffness alignment wires in a 3-bracket experimental model and to verify the performance of the main RS components in both systems when these wires are used. Methods: Interactive self-ligating brackets with closed and open slides were used for the self-ligating (SL) and conventional ligation (CL) groups, respectively; elastomeric ligatures (1 mm inner diameter) were used in the latter system. The alignment wire used was 0.014 inch heat-activated NiTi (austenitic finish temperature set at $36^{\circ}C$ by the manufacturer). A custom-made testing machine was used to measure frictional resistance. Tests were repeated 5 times at every angulation simulated. All data were analyzed statistically. Results: The RS increased significantly with increasing angulation in both SL and CL groups (p < 0.0001). However, the RS values were significantly higher at every angulation (p < 0.0001) in the CL group. Conclusions: Despite the relevance of the binding phenomenon, ligation forces predominantly affect the RS when lowstiffness alignment wires are used.
