  • Torsion mode or bending mode of drive-line for rear-wheel drive vehicle exists in low frequency band. If resonance exists there between natural mode of driveline and powertrain excitation force, drive-line will manifest excessive vibration response. Also, the vibration response can be transmitted to vehicle body and can induce booming noise. A vehicle in this study exhibits a booming noise problem under specific transmission gear condition. To draw performance improvement plan, finite element analysis technique was used. Modification was evaluated qualitatively and priorities were derived. Finally, effectiveness of best modification was verified through test and full vehicle FE analysis.

  • The pupose of this study on the surface finishing is to examine the performance of brushing as a means of reducing the surface roughness of the precision theaded shafts in ball screw assemblies. Ball screws provide superior performance compared to other types of screw feeds in terms of static and dynamic rolling resistance,backlash,and wear characteristics. The Reduction of the surface roughness of the lead shaft in ball screw assembiles is essential for precision movement,high speed/low noise tracel, and for low wear/long life. To reduce machine dependent errors that would influence the surface roughness compared with other lapping or polishing techniques,experiments will be performed using special wire brushes to polish precision ground shafts. The best results were obtained using the Al /sab 2/O /sab3/ brushes, with the Al /sab 2/O /sab3/ #500 grit brush producing a surface finish of approximately 0.7 .mu.m, and the Al /sab 2/O /sab3/ #600 grit producing a surface finish of approximately 0.8 .mu.m. Both of these results were produced at the highest wheel polishing speed of 3520 rpm. The SiC #500 brush produced a surface roughness of approximately 1 .mu.m at 3520 rpm.

  • This paper deals with the measurement and analysis of the squeal noise according to the curvature of rail. The squeal noise is generated by the friction between the railway with curve and the wheel. The squeal noise is a big problem in Busan Metro Line 3. If the developing panel type ANC(Active Noise Control) system which is attached to the floor can reduce 5 dB in below 500 Hz, the sound pressure level of the whole band pass can be reduced about 4-4.8 dB in squeal noise above the curvature of R400. Curve squeal noise is the intense high frequency tonal that can occur when a railway vehicle transverses a curve. The frequency range is from around 500 to almost 20,000 Hz, with noise levels up to about 15 dB in curve.

  • In this study, ti identify the dynamic characteristics of automobile steering system which consists of many components and joints, each component combined structure was analyzed using commercial structural package, ANSYS. And, the finite element method for each component and modeling method of several joints universal joint, bolt joint, bearing, etc. were studied. On the other hand, the experimental modal analysis was performed to compare with the results of the finite element analysis and joint modeling. The result shows very close agreement between two analysis. Also, it was found that the steeing column used in this experiment does not effect the low frequency mode of entire system. In addition, we found that constraint equations need to be considered in modeling universal joint. Since the stiffness effect of Urethane around wheel could be ignored, it can be modeled only with mass effect. In the end, it was found that dynamic characteristics of the entire steerintg system depends mainly upon the wheel characteristics.

Prediction and analysis of structural noise of a box girder using hybrid FE-SEA method

  • With the rapid development of rail transit, rail transit noise needs to be paid more and more attention. In order to accurately and effectively analyze the characteristics of low-frequency noise, a prediction model of vibration of box girder was established based on the hybrid FE-SEA method. When the train speed is 140 km/h, 200 km/h and 250 km/h, the vibration and noise of the box girder induced by the vertical wheel-rail interaction in the frequency range of 20-500 Hz are analyzed. Detailed analysis of the energy level, sound pressure contribution, modal analysis and vibration loss power of each slab at the operating speed of 140 km /h. The results show that: (1) When the train runs at a speed of 140km/h, the roof contributes more to the sound pressure at the far sound field point. Analyzing the frequency range from 20 to 500 Hz: The top plate plays a very important role in controlling sound pressure, contributing up to 70% of the sound pressure at peak frequencies. (2) When the train is traveling at various speeds, the maximum amplitude of structural vibration and noise generated by the viaduct occurs at 50 Hz. The vibration acceleration of the box beam at the far field point and near field point is mainly concentrated in the frequency range of 31.5-100 Hz, which is consistent with the dominant frequency band of wheel-rail force. Therefore, the main frequency of reducing the vibration and noise of the box beam is 31.5-100 Hz.   • This paper presents a force control of a arm of walking training robot. The current gait training apparatus in hospital are ineffective for the difficulty in keeping constant unloading level and constraining patients to walk freely. The proposed walking training robot is designed to unload body weight effectively during walking. The walking training robot consists of unloading manipulator and mobile platform. The manipulator driven with a electro-mechanical linear mechanism unloads body weight in various level. The mobile platform is wheel type, which allows to patients unconstrained walking.   • A torsional vibration at driveline happens seriously at rapid vehicle acceleration. The torsional vibration at driveline can be reduced by optimization of joint angle and yoke phase angle of driveline. But, the joint angle of driveline is changed according to vehicle driving condition as acceleration, deceleration, forward and backward driving, so that excessive vibration is transmitted to vehicle body at specific driving condition. Especially under rapid acceleration condition, vibration transmitted to body could be maximized because excitation force at rapid acceleration is bigger than that at normal driving condition due to changed joint angle. The torsional vibration of driveline can be kept at low level by controlling suspension parameter to minimize rigid axle displacement as well as optimizing joint angles considering the vehicle acceleration condition.

  • The solenoid valve in ABS hydraulic modulator is a two directional on-off valve and is controlled by around 100Hz high speed pulse width modulation. When the valve is switched from open state to closed state, noise and vibration due to pressure surge phenomena in the hydraulic line and wheel cylinder are made. In this study, we identify Pressure surge phenomenon in the braking process of a ABS, and investigate the way to reduce the phenomenon. For the purpose of theoretical analysis on the pressure surge in the closed state hydraulic line, characteristic curve method based on wave equation was utilized. To reduce the surge, high frequency control of 20kHz was attempted. The result showed that the surge pressure of 50% was reduced compared to one observed in the low frequency control. Duty variation of high frequency can control current of solenoid valve and prevent sudden change of displacement.

  • The small precision spindle motors in the high value-added products including the visible home appliances such as DLP projector require not only the energy conversion devices but also high efficiency, low vibration and sound operation. However, the spindle motors using the conventional ball bearing and sintered porous metal bearing have following problems, respectively: the vibration by the irregularity of balls and the short motor life cycle by the ball's abrasion and higher sound noises by dry contact between shaft and sleeve. In this paper, it is proposed that the spindle motor with a fluid dynamic bearing is suitable for the motor to drive the color wheel of the DLP(digital lightening processor) in the visible home appliances. The proposed spindle motor is composed of the fluid dynamic bearing with both the radial force and the thrust force. The fluid dynamic bearing is solved by the finite element analysis of the mechanical field with the Reynolds equations. The magnetic part of spindle motor, which is a type of Brushless DC Motor, is designed by the electro-magnetic field analysis coupled with the Maxwell equation. And the load capacity and the friction loss of fluid dynamic bearing are analyzed to bearing clearance variation by the fabrication error in designed motor. The design of the proposed motor is implemented by the load torque caused by the eccentricity and the unbalance of the fluid dynamic bearing when the motors are fabricated in error. The prototype of the motor with the fluid dynamic bearing is manufactured, and experiment results show the vibration, sound, and phase current at no load and color wheel load of the motors in comparison. The high performance characteristics with the low vibration, the low acoustic noise and the optimal mechanical structure are verified by the experimental results.
