The Loose Part Monitoring System(LPMS) has been designed to detect, locate and evaluate detached or loosened parts and foreign objects in the reactor coolant system. In this paper, at first, we presents an application of the back propagation neural network. At the preprocessing step, the moving window average filter is adopted to reject the low frequency background noise components. And then, extracting the acoustic signature such as Starting point of impact signal, Rising time, Half period, and Global time, they are used as the inputs to neural network. Secondly, we applied the neural network algorithm to LPMS in order to estimate the mass of loose parts. We trained the impact test data of YGN3 using the backpropagation method. The input parameter for training is Rising Time, Half Period, Maximum amplitude. The result showed that the neural network would be applied to LPMS. Also, applying the neural network to the Practical false alarm data during startup and impact test signal at nuclear power Plant, the false alarms are reduced effectively. 1.
Passive sonar system forms the various beams in any desired directions to obtain the improvement in Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio, bearing detection and localization of targets, and the attenuation of interferences from other directions. The improvement of beamforming is very important to detect modern underwater targets as noise reduction technology leads to considerably low-level acoustic emissions in the long range in complex environmental sea. In this paper, we proposed the spatial cross correlation beamforming (SCCBF) algorithm using cross correlation matrix of individual hydrophone pairs of linear array sensors. By the theoretical analysis and simulation, the proposed SCCBF is demonstrated that its performances compared to conventional beamforming (CBF) output can be obtain above 3dB of array gain and about half of beam width represented the bearing accuracy in target detection. Also, this paper presents sea test result of linear passive sonar system that the proposed algorithm implemented.

A Held experiment was carried out to confirm the effect of underwater sound on the luring of fish school of rudder fish in a set net at the coast of Cheju Island. The effects of the acoustic emission on the luring of fish school were observed at a cage around a set net fishing ground using a manufactured underwater speaker. Underwater sounds that were emitted for the luring of fish school were the pure sounds of which frequency were 300Hz and 400Hz, engine noise and swimming sound. The results of the observation are as follows : 1. The input and output wave forms of a manufactured underwater speaker in water tank were similar to those in measurement frequencies. The result of the observation indicated that it could be used for the purpose of the sound emission in measurement frequencies. 2. The effect of the emitted pure sound of 300Hz, 400Hz was remarkable for the luring of fish school in 2 minutes after the sound emission. The reaction of fish school was more sensitive to the pure sound of 400Hz than 300Hz. 3. The effect of the emitted engine noise was more remarkable than that of the pure sound for 3 minute continuously. On the feeding sound, fish formed a shoal and swimmed, but didn't gather around the underwater speaker. 4. The feeding and swimming sound spectra on rudder Hsh showed similar sound pressure distribution each other, they appeared low sound pressure in frequencies of 200-600Hz.

Although digital hearing aid algorithms have been developed to compensate hearing loss and to help hearing impaired people to communicate with others, digital hearing aid user still complain about difficulty of hearing the speech. The reason could be the quality of speech through digital hearing aid is insufficient to understand the speech caused by feedback, residual noise and etc. And another thing is masking effect among formants that makes sound quality low. In this study, we measured the masking characteristics of normal listeners and hearing impaired listeners having presbyacusis to confirm masking effect in speech itself. The experiment is composed of 5 tests; pure tone test, speech reception threshold (SRT) test, word recognition score (WRS) test, puretone masking test and speech masking test. In speech masking test, there are 25 speeches in each speech set. And log likelihood ratio (LLR) is introduced to evaluate the distortion of each speech objectively. As a result, the speech perception became lower by increasing the quantity of formant enhancement. And each enhanced speech in a speech set has statistically similar LLR, however speech perception is not. It means that acoustic masking effect rather than distortion influences speech perception. In actuality, according to the result of frequency analysis of the speech that people can not answer correctly, level difference between first formant and second formant is about 35dB, and it is similar to result of pure tone masking test(normal hearing subject:36.36dB, hearing impaired subject:32.86dB). Characteristics of masking effect is not similar between normal listeners and hearing impaired listeners. So it is required to check the characteristics of masking effect before wearing a hearing aid and to apply this characteristics to fitting.
Adaptive filters are widely used for acoustic echo canceler, adaptive equalizer and adaptive noise canceler. Coefficients of adaptive filters are updated by NLMS algorithm. However, Coefficients are misaligned by ambient noises when they are adapted by NLMS algorithm. In this Paper, a method determined the adaptation constant by low-pass filtered instantaneous gradient vector of LMS algorithm using orthognality principles of optimal filter is proposed. At initial states, instantaneous gradient vector, that is the cross-correlation of input signals and estimation error signals, has large value because input signals are remained in estimation error signals. When an adaptive filter is conversed, the cross-correlation will be close to zero. It isn's affected by ambient noises because ambient noises are uncorrelated with input signals. Determining adaptation constant with the cross-correlation, adaptive filters can be robust to ambient noises and the convergence rate doesn't slower As results of computer simulations, it is shown that the performance of proposed algorithm is betted than that of conventional algorithms.

Beamforming for underwater acoustic communication (UAC) is affected by the broadband feature of UAC signal, which has relatively low currier frequency as compared to the signal bandwidth. The narrow-band assumption does not hold good in UAC. In this paper, we discuss a broadband FIR beamformer for UAC using the baseband equivalent way signal model. We consider the broadband FIR beamformer for QPSK UAC with carrier frequency 25kHz and symbol rate 5kHz. Array geometry is a uniform linear way with 8 omni-directional elements and sensor spacing is the half of the carrier wavelength. The simulation results show that the broadband n beamformer achieves nearly optimum signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) and outperforms the conventional narrowband beamformer by SINR 0.5dB when two-tap FIR filter is employed at each sensor and the inter-tap delay is a quarter of the symbol interval. The broadband FIR beamformer performance is more degraded as the FIR filter length is increased above a certain value. If the inter-tap delay is not greater than half of the symbol period, SINR performance does not depend on the inter-tap delay. More training period is required when the inter-tap delay is same as the symbol period.

Monitoring sediment flux is crucial especially for maintaining river systems to understand morphological behaviors. Recently, hydroacoustic backscatter (or SNR) as a surrogate to empirically estimate suspended sediment concentration has been increasingly highlighted for more efficient acquisition of sediment dataset, which is difficult throughout direct sediment sampling. However, relevant contemporary researches have focused on wide range solution applicable for large natural rivers where H-ADCPs with relatively low acoustic frequency have been widely utilized to seamlessly measure streamflow discharge. In this regard, this study aimed at investigating hydroacoustical characteristics based on a very recently released H-ADCP (SonTek SL-3000) with high acoustic frequency of 3 MHz in order to capitalize its capacity to be applied for suspended sediment monitoring in laboratory conditions. SL-3000 was tested in a laboratory flume to collect SNR in conjunction with LISST-100X for actual sediment concentration and particle distribution in both sand and silt sediment injection in various amount. Conventional algorithms to correct signal attenuations for water and sediment were carefully tested to validate whether they can be applied for SL-3000. As result of analyzing the SNR-SSC correlation trand, through further study in the future, it is confirmed that SSC can be observed indirectly by using the SNR.
Sum frequency generation was utilized to obtain a yellow laser with the wavelength of 578.4 nm for a probe laser of an Yb lattice clock. The output of an Nd:YAG laser with wavelength of 1319 nm and that of an Yb-fiber laser with wavelength of 1030 nm were passed through a waveguided periodically-poled lithium niobate (WG-PPLN) for sum frequency generation. It is required that the probe laser has a linewidth of the order of 1 Hz to fully resolve the Yb lattice clock transition. Thus, the linewidth of the probe laser was reduced by stabilizing the frequency to a super-cavity. This was made of ULE with a low thermal expansion coefficient, and was mounted on an active vibration-isolation table at the optimal point for the reduced sensitivity to vibration. Also, this was installed in a vacuum chamber, and the temperature was stabilized to 1 mK level. This system was installed in an acoustic enclosure to block acoustic noise. The finesse of the super-cavity was measured to be 380 000 from the photon life time of the cavity.

Long-range communication in deep waters must overcome the low data rate due to limited bandwidth. This paper presents the performance of Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) system to increase the data rate. In MIMO system, communication performance is degraded by crosstalk between users and an adaptive passive Time Reversal Processing (TRP) is widely used to eliminate this. In October 2018, long-range underwater acoustic communication experiment was conducted in deep water (1,000 m ~) off the east of Pohang, South Korea. During the experiment, a vertical line array was utilized and communication signals modulated by binary phase shift keying and quadrature phase shift keying with a symbol rate of 512 sps were transmitted. To generate MIMO communication signals, received signals from ranges of 26 km and 30 km is synthesized. Compared to the conventional passive TRP, the adaptive passive TRP eliminates the crosstalk between users and achieves error-free performance with an increase of output signal-to-noise ratio. Therefore, two users separated by 4 km in range achieves an aggregate data rate of 1,024 symbols/s.

Wave measurements using X-band radar have many advantages compared to other wave gauges including wave-rider buoy, P-u-v gauge and Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), etc.. For example, radar system has no risk of loss/damage in bad weather conditions, low maintenance cost, and provides spatial distribution of waves from deep to shallow water. This paper presents new methods for estimating significant wave heights of X-band marine radar images using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). We compared the time series of estimated significant wave heights (Hs) using various estimation methods, such as signal-to-noise ratio (${\sqrt{SNR}}$), both and ${\sqrt{SNR}}$ the peak period (TP), and ANN with 3 parameters (${\sqrt{SNR}}$, TP, and Rval > k). The estimated significant wave heights of the X-band images were compared with wave measurement using ADCP(AWC: Acoustic Wave and Current Profiler) at Hujeong Beach, Uljin, Korea. Estimation of Hs using ANN with 3 parameters (${\sqrt{SNR}}$, TP, and Rval > k) yields best result.
