An experimental study was performed to examine the heat transfer performance of individual rows of fin-tube heat exchangers. The heat transfer performance was measured using air-enthalpy type calorimeter. The examined heat exchangers consists of $7{\Phi}$ tube and fin patterns of them are slit and louver types. Equivalent fin spacing are 18 FPI for all samples, and the number of tube rows were 2. In order to confirm that thermal boundary condition on fins of each row are the same, physically separated between two rows as well as connected heat exchangers were used. The frontal air velocity varied from 0.7 to 2.5 m/s. Heat transfer performance for each row are measured. It was observed that the heat transfer coefficient of the 2nd row were smaller than that of the 1st row at low Reynolds number while larger at high Reynolds number.
This study presents the air side heat transfer and friction characteristics of fin-tube heat exchangers with various fin types. A total of 8 samples of heat exchangers are tested. Fin patterns tested are slit, louver and plate fins. Each fin type has three cases of number of tube rows(N=1, 2, 3) and two different fin pitches. The results are plotted in terms of Colburn j-factor and friction factor f with respect to Reynolds number in the range of 200 to 510.

Heat exchangers have been used for the automotive, HVAC systems, and other various industrial facilities, so the market is very wide. In general, high-efficiency heat exchangers with louver fins are used in the dust-free environment while heat exchangers with wavy fins are used for dusty environment such as construction site, etc. In this study, numerical analysis has been performed for typical heat exchangers, used as oil coolers or fuel coolers, with dual cell model that can handle different grids for the air-side and oil-side of heat exchangers. First wind tunnel tests were conducted to obtain one-dimensional thermal performance data of heat exchangers. Then, heat release rates with varying air flows were numerically predicted using the three-dimensional dual-cell model. The model can greatly enhance the accuracy of thermal design since it includes the effects of nonuniformity of air flows across heat exchangers.

In recent years, air-conditioning units designed with higher efficiency and more compactness are required due to emphasis on energy efficiency in home electrical appliances. This trend in the air-conditioning industries has accelerated the development of improved heat exchanger with a better performance in heat transfer aspects. In this study, experiments were performed to investigate the shape and configuration of fins affecting on the performance of the conventional fin-and-tube type heat exchanger equipped in a commercial air conditioners. The geometry similtude method was employed to measure the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. Experimental results show that this method is very useful to analyze the heat transfer characteristics of the fin-and-tube type heat exchanger. It is also found that the slit fin has better performance than the conventional fin type in the air conditioners. The present results indicate that heat transfer from the fin si influenced by the parameters such as the forming area of the slit fin, the type of interrupted surfaces like a louver or slit, slit patterns and slit raised direction, and it also affects the overall heat exchanger performance.

Heat transfer performances of individual row of two-row fin and tube heat exchangers are experimentally investigated. Tested are four heat exchangers which are geometrically identical with the exception of fin shape, slit or louver, and that the fins between the first row and the second row are connected or separated. The tube diameter and fin spacing of the heat exchangers examined are 7mm and 1.4mm, respectively. All thermal fluid measurements are made using a psychrometric calorimeter. In order to evaluate air-side heat transfer coefficients of individual rows, tube-side water flow rates of individual rows are independently controlled such that the water-side temperature drops in each row remain at $5^{\circ}C$. Frontal air velocity varies in the range from 0.7m/s to 2.5m/s. Heat transfer coefficients are presented in terms of Colburn ${\jmath}-factor$. The results show that the heat transfer coefficient of the upstream row is larger than that for the downstream row at low Reynolds numbers.

This paper contains a verification of simulation program to predict the capacity of a condenser used in car air-conditioners. Verification of simulation program is carried out with the comparison error between experiment and simulation bounds within 3.5%. The present investigation shows the results for heat transfer rates of condenser under different operating conditions, such as velocity and degree of superheat. The range of front velocity of air is 1∼5m/s. As the front velocity is increased, the heat transfer rate of condenser is largely increased at a low velocity range. In a meanwhile, heat transfer rate of condenser is almost constant in a range of velocity over 3m/s. As for the effect of inlet pressure of refrigerant on the heat transfer rate, we obtained the similar trend of heat transfer rates as like varying the front velocity, Also we have calculated the heat transfer rates with varying inlet superheats of refrigerant, the larger the superheat is, the more heat transfer rate is obtained.

An experimental study has been performed to investigate the characteristics of air-side heat transfer and friction of a fined tube heat exchanger under heating conditions. Air enthalpy calorimeter was used to obtain the performance evaluation and analysis of the fined tube heat exchanger. Eight finned tube heat exchangers with slit fin, louver fin, and plain fin were used. The air-side heat transfer coefficient was calculated by the log-mean-temperature-difference. Air-side heat transfer and friction were presented in terms of j factor and friction factor on Reynolds number. From the experimental result, it was found that the variations of air-side heat transfer and friction of fined tube heat exchanger with the change of the fin configuration, row number, fin pitch, and tube circuit were obtained. j factor and friction factor decreased with Reynolds number increased. The tube circuit affected the air-side heat transfer and friction. In the case of slit and louver fin, j factor of 1st row was higher than that of 2nd row. But, with increasing Re, j factor was reversed. The characteristics of j factor and friction factor of 2nd row heat exchanger were different according to the kind of fins.

The performance of flat-tube radiators with louvered fins was numerically investigated for different tube insertion lengths. The results of numerical analysis using CFX-11 were compared with experimental results. In this study, three types of flat-tube radiators with louvered fins were considered. An experiment was conducted to validate the numerical results. Flow rate ratio (FR) and Stotal were introduced to understand the uniformity of flow distribution easily. The results of numerical analysis revealed that the heat transfer rate and pressure drop increased as the mass flow rate increased. Further, the results showed that the heat transfer rate of sample 3 with h/D = 0.5 was higher than that of the other samples. The pressure drop increased as the insertion length toward the header part increased, and the pressure drop in the case of sample 3 appeared to be the highest. The factor Stotal showed that the uniformity of the flow distribution in the case of sample 1 with h/D = 0 was higher than that in the case of the other samples.
