  • Confluence buffers and single flux quantum (SFQ) switches are essential components in constructing a high speed superconductive Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). In this work, we developed a SFQ confluence buffer and an SFQ switch. It is very important to optimize the circuit parameters of a confluence buffer and an SFQ switch to implement them into an ALU. The confluence buffer that we are currently using has a small bias margin of $\pm$11%. By optimizing it with a Josephson circuit simulator, we improved the design of confluence buffer. Our simulation study showed that we improved bias global margin of 10% more than the existent confluence buffer. In simulations, the minimal bias margin was $\pm$33%. We also designed, fabricated, and tested an SFQ switch operating in a DC mode. The mask layout used to fabricate the SFQ switch was obtained after circuit optimization. The test results of our SFQ switch showed that it operated correctly and had a reasonably wide margin of $\pm$15%.

  • Carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (CNTFETs) have been widely studied as a promising technology to be included in post-complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor integrated circuits. Despite significant advantages in terms of delay and power dissipation, the fabrication process for CNTFETs is plagued by fault occurrences. Therefore, developing a fast and accurate method for estimating the reliability of CNTFET-based digital circuits was the main goal of this study. In the proposed method, effects related to faults that occur in a gate's transistors are first represented as a probability transfer matrix. Next, the target circuit's graph is traversed in topological order and the reliabilities of the circuit's gates are computed. The accuracy of this method (less than 3% reliability estimation error) was verified through various simulations on the ISCAS 85 benchmark circuits. The proposed method outperforms previous methods in terms of both accuracy and computational complexity.

  • This paper presents a method of constructing the digital logic switching functions using PLA. First of all, we propose a MIN and MAX algebra arithmetic operation based on the Post algebra. And we discuss the T-gate which is used for realization of the MIN and MAX algebra arithmetic operation. Next, we discuss the MIN array and MAX array which are basic circuit of the PLA, also we discuss the literal property. For the purpose of the design for the digital logic switching functions using PLA, we Propose the variable partition, modular structure design, literal generator, decoder and invertor. The proposed method is the more compactable and extensibility.

  • This paper describes a design of a 1bit Carry Propagate Free Adder/Subtracter (CPFA/S) VLSI using the Adiabatic Dynamic CMOS Logic (ADCL) circuit technology. Using a PSPICE simulator, energy dissipation of the ADCL 1bit CPFA/S is compared with that of the CMOS 1bit CPFA/S. As a result, energy dissipation of the proposed ADCL circuits is about 1/23 as low as that of the CMOS circuits. The transistors count, propagation-delay tittle and energy dissipation of the ADCL 4bit CPFA/S are compared with those of the ADCL 4bit Carry Propagate Adder/Subtracter (CPA/S). The transistors count and propagation-delay tittle are found to be reduced by 7.02% and 57.1%, respectively. Also, energy dissipation is found to be reduced by 78.4%. Circuit operation and performance are evaluated using a chain of the ADCL 1bit CPFA/S fabricated in a $1.21mutextrm{m}$ CMOS process. The experimental results show that addition and subtraction are operated with clock frequencies up to about 1㎒.

  • This paper presents the implementation technique to reduce circuit area occupation in designing Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) using vertical shunt symmetric inductor. We applied a vertical shunt symmetric inductor to match the input and output in 3 GHz CMOS LNA to reduce the circuit area. This size efficient amplifier has been designed in a $0.18\;{\mu}m$ digital logic CMOS process. In this paper, the case of conventional asymmetric inductor, and vertical shunt symmetrical inductor with a relatively higher number of turns have been compared in order to efficient a size efficient CMOS LNA design method while still retaining the circuit operation characteristics.

  • This paper describes the design techniques of the data converters for Multiple-Valued Logic(MVL). A 3.3V low power 4 digit CMOS analog to quaternary converter (AQC) and quaternary to analog converter (QAC) mainly designed with the neuron MOS down literal circuit block has been introduced. The neuron MOS down literal architecture allows the designed AQC and QAC to accept analog and 4 level voltage inputs, and enables the proposed circuits to have the multi-threshold properity. Low power consumption of the AQC and QAC are achieved by utilizing the proposed architecture.

  • A new algorithm of constructing binary decision diagram(BDD) for design verification of switch-level circuits is proposed in this paper. In the switch-level circuit, functions are characterized by serial and parallel connections of switches and the final logic values may have high-impedance and unstable states in addition to the logic values of 0 and 1. We extend the BDD to represent functions of switch-level circuits as acyclic graphs so called switch-level binary decision diagram (SLBDD). The function representation of the graph is in the worst case, exponential to the number of inputs. Thus, the ordering of decision variables plays a major role in graph sizes. Under the existence of pass-transistors and domino-logic of precharging circuitry, we also propose an input ordering algorithm for the efficiency in graph sizes. We conducted several experiments on various benchmark circuits and the results show that our algorithm is efficient enough to apply to functional simulation, power estimation, and fault-simulation of switch-level design.

  • In this paper, it is presented element generation, addition, multiplication and division algorithm over GF ($2^m$) to calculate multiple-valued logic function. The results of addition and multiplication among these algorithms are applied to the current mode CMOS circuits with ROM structure to design of adder and multiplier on GF ($2^m$). Table-lookup and Euclid's algorithm are required the computation in large quentities when multiple-valued logic functions are developed on GF ($2^m$). On the contrary the presented operation algorithms are prefered to the conventional methods since they are processed without relation to increasing degree m in the general purpose computer. Also, the presened logic circuits are suited for the circuit design of the symmetric multiplevalued truth-tables and they can be implemented addition and multiplication on GF ($2^m$) simultaueously.

  • A feedwater controller targeted for an ABWR has been implemented using a modern field programmable gate array (FPGA), and verified using the full scope simulator at Taipower's Lungmen nuclear power station. The adopted control algorithm is a rule-based fuzzy logic. Point to point validation of the FPGA circuit board has been executed using a digital pattern generator. The simulation model of the simulator was employed for verification and validation of the controller design under various plant initial conditions. The transient response and the steady state tracking ability were evaluated and showed satisfactory results. The present work has demonstrated that the FPGA based approach incorporated with a rule-based fuzzy logic control algorithm is a flexible yet feasible approach for feedwater controller design in nuclear power plant applications.
