  • This paper presents a new approach of a evaluation of location marginal prices(LMPs) considering demand response resources in the competitive electricity market. The stabilization of the electric power supply and demand balance has been one of the major important activities in electric power industry. Recently, much attention is paid to the demand-side resources which are responsive to incentives or time-varying prices and existing power system planning and operation activities are incorporated with the so-called demand response resources. In this paper, we first present an analytical method for calculation of LMPs considering demand response resources and then break down the LMPs into three components. In this study, we assume that Korean power system consists of two major regions, one which is the metropolitan and the other is non-metropolitan region. In the case study, we have considered several LMPs cases with different use of locational demand response resource and we can obtain a locational signal to demand response resources. Also, the economics of demand response resources are evaluated, compared with the increase of transmission line capacity and of generation capacity.

  • Superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been expected as one of more effective solutions for decreasing fault current instantaneously and various types of SFCLs have been developed to apply into real power system. Recently, the application of the SFCL in a power distribution system has been reported to be contributed to the suppression of the voltage sag as well as the limitation of the fault current. However, the suppressing effect of voltage sag by the SFCL depends on component of its impedance and its application location in a power distribution system considering the recloser-recloser coordination. This paper analyzed the voltage sag caused by recloser-recloser coordination in a power distribution system and the suppression of the voltage sag due to the application location of the SFCL in a power distribution system was discussed through the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation.

  • This paper deals with an optimal determination process for the built-in location of localizer under restrictive siting area conditions of a domestic P-airport. Aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the localizer structure can be used a reference to find the safe distance from jet blast and the position at which the reasonable structural loading is applied. Wind tunnel experiment is conducted to measure aerodynamic loadings. The finite element analysis for structural deformation is employed to get the information of structural failure. A new localizer's position is determined by considering aerodynamic loading, structural strength and thermal loading due to jet blast. Deflector effect was also investigated in this study. In conclusion, the location of localizer can be placed at shorter than the current position and greatly decreased if the deflector is applied at the front of localizer.

  • Objective : The authors attempted to confirm the risk factors for recurrent chronic subdural hematoma[CSDH] after simple burr-hole drainage. Methods : A total of 302 patients with CSDH who were treated at our hospital between January 1998 and May 2005 were studied. Various parameters considered for analysis of factors associated with CSDH recurrence; demographic and clinical findings [age, sex, history of seizures, diabetes, vascular diseases], initial and perioperative CT findings [hematoma density, location of catheter tip, post operative intracranial air, intracranial hematoma extension, hematoma width, hematoma site]. Results : Twenty-four patients [7.9%] experienced recurrence, whereas 278 patients [92.1%] did not. Five major risk factors should be considered : 1) layered type by hematoma density, 2) type I, II by location of catheter tip, 3) presence of postoperative intracranial air, 4) cranial base type of intracranial hematoma extension, 5) greater hematoma width. Conclusion : In this study, we report that the incidence of postoperative CSDH recurrence can be reduced by the examination of the hematoma characteristics on initial and perioperative CT findings and by preventing subdural air accumulation during operation. In addition, the location of the catheter tip can be used as a helpful factor in reducing the recurrence.

  • Objective : Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels mediate the hyperpolarization-activated currents (Ih) that participate in regulating neuronal membrane potential and contribute critically to pacemaker activity, promoting synchronization of neuronal networks. However, distinct regional and cellular localization of HCN channels in the brain have not been precisely defined. Aim of this study was to verify the precise cellular location of HCN1 channels in rat cerebellum to better understand the physiological role these channels play in synaptic transmission between CNS neurons. Methods : HCN1 expression in rat brain was analyzed using immunohistochemistry and electron-microscopic observations. Postsynaptic density-95 (PSD-95), otherwise known as locating and clustering protein, was also examined to clarify its role in the subcellular location of HCN1 channels. In addition, to presume the binding of HCN1 channels with PSD-95, putative binding motifs in these channels were investigated using software-searching method. Results : HCN1 channels were locally distributed at the presynaptic terminal of basket cell and exactly corresponded with the location of PSD-95. Moreover, nine putative SH3 domain of PSD-95 binding motifs were discovered in HCN1 channels from motif analysis. Conclusion : Distinct localization of HCN1 channels in rat cerebellum is possible, especially when analyzed in conjunction with the SH3 domain of PSD-95. Considering that HCN1 channels contribute to spontaneous rhythmic action potentials, it is suggested that HCN1 channels located at the presynaptic terminal of neurons may play an important role in synaptic plasticity.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm that improve network lifetime by adjusting cluster size according to location information of sensor node in wireless sensor network (WSN) using clustering technique. The sensed information in each cluster transfers to sink node through inter-cluster communications. Cluster head (CH) that nearby located in sink node much more spend own energy than far away CHs, because nearer CH forwards more data, so network lifetime is decreased. Proposed algorithm minimizes energy consumption in adjacent cluster to sink node by decreasing cluster site, and improve CH lifetime by distributing transmission paths. As a result of analysis, the proposed algorithm shows longer network lifetime in WSN.

  • In order to improve the frictional resistance of existing high-speed planning hull, a step-like linear transformation has been researched which forms an air layer on the bottom. However, there is a lack of research on the proper position to confirm the effect of Running Attitude and step on each position. In this study, we confirmed the change of the Running Attitude, the effect of the step and the change of the frictional resistance when the step was applied in the longitudinal location.

  • One of the first decisions that a radio network designer must take is the location of base stations and the distance between them in order to give the best coverage to a region and, possibly, to reduce deployment costs. In this paper, the authors give an insight to this matter by presenting a possible solution to a real problem: Planning the base stations layout for a universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) in the city of Barcelona. At the basis of this problem, there is the interdependence between coverage and capacity in a wideband-code division multiple access (W-CDMA) system, which is a new element in the planning of BS layout for mobile communications. This aspect has been first treated with an analytical study of the cell coverage range for a specific environment and service. The achieved results have been checked with the help of snapshot simulations together with a geographical information system (GIS) tool incorporated in the simulator that allows to perform analysis and to visualize results in a useful way. By using the simulator, it is also possible to study a more complex environment, that of a set of base stations providing multiple services to a large number of users.

  • Cooperative networks eliminate shadow area using relay and enhance communication performance by creating virtual multi input multi output (MIMO) system. In this paper, we analyze the performance of cooperative networks which use coherent modulation scheme in source-relay nodes and differential modulation scheme in relay-destination nodes depending on the relay location. We consider the performance analysis of systems with and without the direct transmission between source and destination node where the direct transmission adopts differential modulation scheme. In addition, the performance of the system with fully differential modulation scheme is compared with the system using partially differential modulation scheme. The performance of system is based on the symbol error rate between source and destination node.

  • In this paper, we analyze and simulate the capacity of Bluetooth AP (Access Point) for LBS (Location Based Service) with mobile phones and Bluetooth. Based on the modeling of connection setup times and data transmission times, we derive the capacity model of Bluetooth AP. Moreover, we consider content size and the statistics of incoming users for the simulation. From the simulation, we derive the possible number of users with capacity of the given Bluetooth AP in order to utilize the results in the real application environment.
