In this paper, we propose the sound-mapping algorithm of the detected obstacle by ultrasonic sensors. We apply this algorithm to a Obstacle alarm for the visually impaired. In our system, we acquire obstacles information using ultrasonic sensors, and transform two-dimensional and distance information into sound-imaging information and vibrator with azimuth (direction) and distance. We implement this system with ultrasonic sensors to more effective expression of the obstacle information. The distance of an obstacle can be expressed by sound pressure level, and azimuth of the obstacles can be expressed by inter-aural time difference (ITD) and inter-aural level difference (ILD) that are two important cues in a binaural system. These are the principal cues for sound localization, to detect sound source. In this system, the obstacle is substituted with a sound source. The visually impaired receive sound information of obstacles by headphone.
One of the major problems for accurate channel estimation in power line communication systems is impulsive noise. Traditional channel estimation algorithms are based on the assumption of Gaussian noise, or the need to locate the positions of impulsive noise. The algorithms may lose optimality when impulsive noise exists in the channel, or if the location estimation of impulsive noise is inaccurate. In the present paper, an effective channel estimation algorithm based on a robust cost function is proposed to mitigate impulsive noise. The proposed method can provide a closed-form solution, and the application of robust estimation theory enables the proposed method to be free from localization of impulsive noise and thus can guarantee that the proposed method has better performance. Simulations verified the proposed algorithm.

This paper proposes a novel wavelet transform based algorithm for the seasonal load forecasting. In this paper, Daubechies DB2, DB4 and DB10 wavelet transforms are adopted to predict the seasonal loads and the numerical results reveal that certain wavelet components can effectively be used to identify the load characteristics in electric power systems. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localization are adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and then reconstructed. In order to forecast the final loads through a four-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means of the seasonal load forecasting.
In this paper, we propose a modified ORB-SLAM (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) for precise indoor navigation of a mobile robot. The exact posture and position estimation by the ORB-SLAM is not possible all the times for the indoor navigation of a mobile robot when there are not enough features in the environment. To overcome this shortcoming, additional IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and encoder sensors were installed and utilized to calibrate the ORB-SLAM. By fusing the global information acquired by the SLAM and the dynamic local location information of the IMU and the encoder sensors, the mobile robot can be obtained the precise navigation information in the indoor environment with few feature points. The superiority of the modified ORB-SLAM was verified to compared with the conventional algorithm by the real experiments of a mobile robot navigation in a corridor environment.

Autonomous Lane detection with vision is a difficult problem because of various road conditions, such as shadowy road surface, various light conditions, and the signs on the road. In this paper we propose a robust lane detection algorithm to overcome shadowy road problem using a statistical method. The algorithm is applied to the vision-based mobile robot system and the robot followed the lane with the lane following controller. In parallel with the lane following controller, the global position of the robot is estimated by the developed localization method to specify the locations where the lane is discontinued. The results of experiments, done in the region where the GPS measurement is unreliable, show good performance to detect and to follow the lane in complex conditions with shades, water marks, and so on.

Autonomous mobile robots need SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) to look for the location and simultaneously to make the map around the location. In order to achieve visual SLAM, it is necessary to form an algorithm that detects and extracts feature points from camera images, and gets the camera pose and 3D points of the features. In this paper, we propose MPROSAC algorithm which combines MSAC and PROSAC, and compare the performance of optimization method and the filtering method for feature-based monocular visual SLAM. Sparse Bundle Adjustment (SBA) is used for the optimization method and the extended Kalman filter is used for the filtering method.

Recently, quantitative and repetitive inspections of the old urban area were conducted because many structures exceed their designed lifetime. The health of a building can be validated from the condition of the outer wall, while the slant angle of the wall widely serves as an indicator of urban regeneration projects. Mostly, the inspector directly measures the inclination of the wall or partially uses 3D point measurements using a static light detection and ranging (LiDAR). These approaches are costly, time-consuming, and only limited space can be measured. Therefore, we propose a mobile mapping system and automatic slant map generation algorithm, configured to capture urban environments online. Additionally, we use the LiDAR-inertial mapping algorithm to construct raw point clouds with gravity information. The proposed method extracts walls from raw point clouds and measures the slant angle of walls accurately. The generated slant angle map is evaluated in indoor and outdoor environments, and the accuracy is compared with real tiltmeter measurements.
In this paper, a method of using Software Defined Radio (SDR) is proposed for improving the accuracy of identifying two kinds of signals as Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) signal and Bluetooth signal at the same frequency band of 2.4 GHz based on the time-domain signal characteristic. An SDR device was set up for collecting transmitting signals from Wi-Fi access points (Wi-Fi) and mobile phones (Bluetooth). Different characteristics between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals were extracted from the measured result. The SDR device is programmed with a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth detection algorithm and a collision detection algorithm to detect and verify the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals based on collected IQ data. These methods are necessary for some applications like wireless communication optimization, Wi-Fi fingerprint localization, which helps to avoid interference and collision between two kinds of signals.

Linear wireless sensor networks typically construct a network topology with a high reliability through sequential 1:1 mapping among sensor nodes, so that they are used in various surveillance applications of major national infrastructures. Most existing techniques for identifying sensor nodes in those networks are using GPS, AOA, and RSSI mechanisms. However, GPS or AOA based node identification techniques affect the size or production cost of the nodes so that it is not easy to construct practical sensor networks. RSSI based techniques may have a high deviation regrading location identification according to propagation environments and equipment quality so that complexity of error correction algorithm may increase. We propose a timestamps based sequential localization algorithm that uses transmit and receive timestamps in a message between sensor nodes without using GPS, AOA, and RSSI techniques. The algorithms for distance measurement between each node are expected to measure distance within up to 1 meter in case of an crystal oscillator of 300MHz or more.
Purpose - The ICT market in the EU is lagging behind that of the US; however, algorithm and software development within the EU have grown steadily, and they involve focusing on the creative cultural convergence conceptualized as part of Horizon 2020 and connecting neighboring markets in the EE and the Mediterranean region. It is essential to study the requirements to market the EU's creative ICT development in emerging industrial countries after examining its applicability in these countries. Research design, data, and methodology - This study deals with data pertaining to the EU's creative industry and competitive edge. The global cultural expansion of the EU facilitates a new concept involving not only low-cost IT products to enhance local cultural artifacts through R&D and the construction of efficient infrastructure services, but also information exchange with a realistic commercialization of the technology that can be applied for creative cultural localization. In the European industry, research on algorithms has been applied for the benefit of consumers. We investigated how the process is conducted in the EU. Results - Europe needs to adjust its economic structure to the local culture as part of IT distribution convergence. The convergence has been converted into a production algorithm with IT in the form of low-cost production. This is because there is an attempt to improve the quality of transport infrastructure, workforce availability, and the distribution of the distance to the local industries and consumers, using IT algorithms. Integrated into the manufacturing industry, based on the ICT infrastructure and solutions, smart localized regional clusters are formed with the help of grafting. Europe has own strategy to increase the number of hub-and-spoke cities. Europe is now becoming integrated, with an EPC system for regional cooperation rather than national competition in ICT technology. Europe has also been recognized in this study as changing the step-by-step paradigm for global competitiveness through new creative culture industries. Conclusions - As a result, there are several ways of converging with others through EU R&D intensity; therefore, the EU can be seen as successfully increasing marginal value, which is useful in developing a special industrial cluster or local cultural cities that create converged development by connecting people and objects with IT. In fact, when compared to the US, Europe has a strong culture and the car industries have a tendency to overshadow the IT industries with integration of services in IT distribution. Considering the rapid environmental changes, the convergence of IT services is likely to take place in Europe, similar to the pharmaceutical industry and the automotive industry. This requires a focus on human resources and automated systems management. The trend is to move away from low-wage industries, switched to key personnel centers of the local university-industry. EU emphasizes the creation of IT market demand in Europe involving local cultural convergence for marketing as the second step to strengthen the economic hub-and-spoke areas.
