A Multimodal Fusion Method Based on a Rotation Invariant Hierarchical Model for Finger-based Recognition

  • Multimodal biometric-based recognition has been an active topic because of its higher convenience in recent years. Due to high user convenience of finger, finger-based personal identification has been widely used in practice. Hence, taking Finger-Print (FP), Finger-Vein (FV) and Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP) as the ingredients of characteristic, their feature representation were helpful for improving the universality and reliability in identification. To usefully fuse the multimodal finger-features together, a new robust representation algorithm was proposed based on hierarchical model. Firstly, to obtain more robust features, the feature maps were obtained by Gabor magnitude feature coding and then described by Local Binary Pattern (LBP). Secondly, the LGBP-based feature maps were processed hierarchically in bottom-up mode by variable rectangle and circle granules, respectively. Finally, the intension of each granule was represented by Local-invariant Gray Features (LGFs) and called Hierarchical Local-Gabor-based Gray Invariant Features (HLGGIFs). Experiment results revealed that the proposed algorithm is capable of improving rotation variation of finger-pose, and achieving lower Equal Error Rate (EER) in our homemade database.

A Study on Classification of CNN-based Linux Malware using Image Processing Techniques (영상처리기법을 이용한 CNN 기반 리눅스 악성코드 분류 연구)

  • With the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, using the Linux operating system in various architectures has increased. Also, security threats against Linux-based IoT devices are increasing, and malware variants based on existing malware are constantly appearing. In this paper, we propose a system where the binary data of a visualized Executable and Linkable Format (ELF) file is applied to Local Binary Pattern (LBP) image processing techniques and a median filter to classify malware in a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). As a result, the original image showed the highest accuracy and F1-score at 98.77%, and reproducibility also showed the highest score at 98.55%. For the median filter, the highest precision was 99.19%, and the lowest false positive rate was 0.008%. Using the LBP technique confirmed that the overall result was lower than putting the original ELF file through the median filter. When the results of putting the original file through image processing techniques were classified by majority, it was confirmed that the accuracy, precision, F1-score, and false positive rate were better than putting the original file through the median filter. In the future, the proposed system will be used to classify malware families or add other image processing techniques to improve the accuracy of majority vote classification.   • An improved genetic algorithm was proposed for pattern synthesis of an adaptive beam forming system using phased array antennas. The proposed genetic algorithm is an algorithm that adds acquired characteristics procedure to solve local optimization using the diversity. The performance of the proposed genetic algorithm is verified through the problem of finding a suitable chromosome for a picture composed of binary. And it is confirmed that it is suitable for the adaptive beam forming system based on the performance problem of combining main beam and two pattern nulls.

  • Weber Local Descriptor (WLD) is a stable and effective feature extraction algorithm, which is based on Weber's Law. It calculates the differential excitation information and direction information, and then integrates them to get the feature information of the image. However, WLD only considers the center pixel and its contrast with its surrounding pixels when calculating the differential excitation information. As a result, the illumination variation is relatively sensitive, and the selection of the neighbor area is rather small. This may make the whole information is divided into small pieces, thus, it is difficult to be recognized. In order to overcome this problem, this paper proposes Weber Symmetrical Local Graph Structure (WSLGS), which constructs the graph structure based on the $5{\times}5$ neighborhood. Then the information obtained is regarded as the differential excitation information. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method on the database of ORL, JAFFE and our own built database, high-definition infrared faces. The experimental results show that WSLGS provides higher recognition rate and shorter image processing time compared with traditional algorithms.

MSER-based Character detection using contrast differences in natural images (자연 이미지에서 명암차이를 이용한 MSER 기반의 문자 검출 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a method to remove the background area by analyzing the pattern of the character area. In the character detection result of the MSER(Maximally Stable External Regions) method which distinguishes a region having a constant contrast background regions were detected. To solve this problem, we use the MSER method in natural images, the background is removed by calculating the change rate by searching the character area and the background area which are not different from the areas where the contrast values are different from each other. However, in the background removed image, using the LBP(Local Binary Patterns) method, the area with uniform values in the image was determined to be a character area and character detection was performed. Experiments were carried out with simple images with backgrounds, images with frontal characters, and images with slanted images. The proposed method has a high detection rate of 1.73% compared with the conventional MSER and MSER + LBP method.

  • People detection using HOG linear SVM classification has been successfully applied. Also, HOG combined with LBP, which reflects texture informations, shows improved performance. In this paper, we analyze various gamma correction methods. We also analyze results obtained using HOG+LBP methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 Local Binary Pattern(LBP)과 Top-N Block Matching을 조합한 얼굴 인식 방법을 제안한다. 실제 상황에서 촬영된 얼굴영상에는 다양한 조명의 변화와 부분적인 가려짐의 영향을 크게 받기 때문에 실제 상황에서의 적용에 어려움이 있다. 따라서 기존의 LBP만을 이용한 얼굴 인식 방법은 좋은 성능을 보여주지 못한다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 LBP와 Top-N Block Matching을 조합한 얼굴 인식 방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 얼굴 인식 방법이 기존의 LBP만을 사용한 얼굴 인식에 비해서 PF07 Database에서 약 7%의 성능향상이 이루어졌음을 실험을 통해서 보여주고 있다.

  • 본 논문에서는 주행 중인 차량에서 전방을 향해 장착된 카메라를 통해 입력된 영상에서 측면에 부분적으로 나타나는 차량을 검출하는 방법을 제안한다. 기존 연구에서는 모션 벡터를 이용하여 주변 배경과 관측되는 차량 사이의 모션 벡터 차이를 이용하여 측면 차량을 검출하고 있다. 그러나 모션 벡터를 이용할 경우 정지된 차량이나 전방에서 다가오는 차량의 경우 검출하기 어려운 점이 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 모션 벡터를 사용하지 않고 차량 측면 모습에서 특징 정보를 추출하여 SVM 분류기를 통해 측면 차량을 검출하는 방법을 제안한다. 차량 측면 모습의 특징을 뽑기 위해 영상의 밝기 변화에 강인한 국부 이진 패턴을 사용하였고 ROI영역 내에서 차량이 나타나는 위치에 상관없이 차량의 측면 모습을 찾아내기 위해 국부 이진 패턴의 히스토그램을 이용하였다. 실험결과에서는 제안하는 방법이 정지된 차량을 포함하여 88.5%의 정확도로 측면 차량을 검출하는 것을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper we implemented the fast thinning unit by modifying the pipeline architecture which was proposed by Stanley R. Sternberg. The unit is useful in preprocessing such as image representation and pattern recognition etc. This unit is composed of interface part, local memory part, address generation part, thinning processing part and control part. In thinning processing part, we shortened the thinning part which performed by means of look up table using window mapping table. Thus we improved the weakness of SAP, in which the number of delay pipeline and window pipeline are equal to image column size. Two independent memorys using tri-state buffer enable the two direction flow of address generated by address generation part. This unit avoids the complexity of architecture and has flexibility of image size by means of simple modification of logic bits.

  • This paper describes an implementation of face detection technology for a real-time application on the Android platform. Java class of Face-Detection for detection of human face is provided by the Android API. However, this function is not suitable to apply for the real-time applications due to inadequate detection speed and accuracy. In this paper, the AdaBoost based classification method which utilizes Local Binary Pattern (LBP) histogram is employed for face detection. The face detection module has been developed by C/C++ language for high-speed image processing, and this module is included to the Android platform using the Java Native Interface (JNI). The experiments were carried out in the Java-based environment and JNI-based environment. The experimental results have shown that the performance of JNI-based is faster than Java-based method and our system is well enough to apply for real-time applications.
