Four pairs of draught oxen (two local and two Jersey crossbred) were studied when they ploughed dry land on local farms. Work done, distance traveled and body temperature of each ox were measured continuously over a 5 h working day. A different team worked each day, completing at least six days work each. Individual food intakes and digestibility of feed were measured when the animals were given rice straw and tree fodder, and housed and fed according to local husbandry practices. The Jersey crossbreds, particularly the longer legged type, had a higher rate of work than the local oxen in this study. They did significantly more work and covered a greater distance during the day. The absence of a hump in the crossbred oxen had no effect on the position of the yoke or the way the oxen pulled when ploughing. The longer legged type of Jersey crossbred tended to work more erratically than any of the other teams. A fast rate of work made the oxen more liable to heat stress. When fed according to local practices and given the same amount of feed as local oxen, Jersey crossbreds tended to do less well. During the ploughing months, the local oxen gained weight, while the crossbreds remained at the same or lost some weight. Although there were some disadvantages to keeping Jersey crossbreds for work, their favourable work output suggests that the introduction of the Jersey crossbred in the hills of Nepal is unlikely to be detrimental to the performance of the work oxen population.

This study was performed to investigate correlation between total body weight loss and local sweat rate and to find out any possible method that can estimate total body weight loss judging from local sweat rate. Twelve adult females were kept at 44 $\pm1^{\circ}C$, 50 ${\pm}5\%$ R.H. (1) Physiological responses such as total body weight loss, local sweat rate, rectal temperature, skin temperature, blood pressure and pulse, (2) micro climate inside garment and (3) subjective sensation were examined. Two types of garment such as long-sleeves with long pants (Type I) and half·sleeves with short pants (Type II) were used to observe the effect of garment types on sweating response. Both clothing weight was equal (132$\pm$3 g/$m^{2}$). The results were as follows: 1. Regardless of the different types, total body weight loss was more interrelated with the sweat rate on forehead than any other parts of the body. Except the forehead, different parts of body with different types of garment influenced on body weight loss quite differently. 2. Total body weight loss was more interrelated with the weight gain of garment than the local sweat rate. 3. Under the environment of 44$\pm1^{\circ}C,\;50{\pm}5\%$R.H., body weight loss during 1 hour of subject clothed and silted was 275.2 g/hr and weight loss per body surface area was 178.9 g/$m^{2}/hr$ Garment types have no influences on total body weight loss. 4. Local sweat rate (mg/7.07 $cm^{2}/hr$) was 208.0,191.0, 133.0, 115.0,81 0, 75.1 and 66.3 on scruff, breast, forehead, forearm, thigh, upper arm, leg respectively No evidence has been found that garment types influenced on local sweat rate (p<0.1). 5. No interrelationships between rectal temperature and total body weight loss, local skin temperature and total body weight loss, and local skin temperature and local sweat rate were found. From this study, some possible method that we can estimate total body' weight loss judging from weight loss of garment. But considering the fact that clothing design factor, the physical characteristics of fabric and environmental factor such as humidity and wind velocity should be concerned in weight loss of garment, it should be studied further whether the total body weight loss can be estimated properly from the weight loss of garment. This experiment suggest that different parts of body with different types of garment can influence on body weight loss quite differently. Therefore, in order to get more precise results, more studies under the diversity of garment types should be done in the near future.
The mean temperature equation is a key factor in calculating GPS meteorological information. A local mean temperature equation should be used to improve accuracy of GPS PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor). In this paper, four local mean temperature equations, HP, $HP_M,\;HPt_Y,\;and\;HPt_M$ from Ha & Park (2008) were used to analyze the effects of local models in determining GPS PWV. Four different sets of GPS PWVs were compared with radiosonde PWV to validate the accuracies of local models. GPS PWVs of four local models have similar trends compared against radiosonde PWV. The bias and RMS error were the same level: the bias is ${\sim}3mm$ and the RMS is ${\sim}3.6mm$ after the bias was removed. Especially, with $HPt_Y\;and\;HPt_M$ models one can obtain accurate PWVs even without surface temperature measurements. And we investigated dry bias of radiosonde measurements depending on sensor types and observation time at Sokcho weather station. After the radiosonde sensor equipment was changed from RS80-15L to GRS DFM-06, dry bias of radiosonde PWV decreased about 18.2% during daytime (KST 09:00), and 16.1% during nighttime (KST 21:00).

This study involves the development of a computer program to analyze the local buckling stresses for the flange and the web of I-beams under compression at elevated temperatures, and the optimization algorithm to analyze the optimum width-thickness ratios which does not occur their local buckling prior to yield failure. The high-temperature stress-strain relationships of steel used in this study were based on EC3 (Eurocode3) Part1.2 (2000b). In this study, the local buckling stresses and the optimum width-thichness ratios were analyzed considering the influences of the yield stress, local buckling coefficients and width-thickness ratios of the flange and the web. Design examples show the applicability of the computer program developed in this study.

$VO_2$ is a well-known a metal-to-insulator-transition (MIT) material, accompanied with a first order structural phase transition near room temperature. Because of the structural phase transition and the MIT occur near a same temperature, there is an ongoing argument whether the MIT is induced by the structural phase transition. $VO_2$ exhibits a relatively weak anti-oxidization ability and can be oxidized to higher-valence oxides (e.g., $V_4$$O_7$ or $V_2$$O_5$) when annealed at a high temperature in an oxygen-rich atmosphere. We fabricated $VO_2$ films on $Al_2$$O_3$ (0001) substrates using a DC magnetron sputtering deposition process with carefully control the $O_2$ percentage in an atmosphere. X-ray diffraction measurements from the films showed only (0l0) peaks with no extra peaks, indicating b-oriented films. The temperature-dependent local structural properties of $VO_2$ films were investigated by using in-situ X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements at the V K edge. XAFS revealed that the structural phase transition was occurred nearly $70^{\circ}C$ for heating process and reproducible. Resistance measurements as a function of temperature (R-T) demonstrated that the resistance of $VO_2$ films was changed by a factor of 4 near $75^{\circ}C$ which was higher than $68^{\circ}C$ reported from a $VO_2$ bulk. We will discuss the MIT of $VO_2$ films, comparing with the local structural properties determined by XAFS measurements.
The effect of mold preheating temperature on the microstructure such as grain size, eutectic silicon morphology was investigated for the Al-7wt%Si-0.3wt%Mg alloy. Microstructural variations have been characterized as a function of Sr addition and cooling rate during solidification. Microstructures were correlated with cooling rate, local solidification time and eutectic nucleation temperature, etc. In this study, Sr addition caused increase of local solidification time, undercooling and reduction of eutectic plateau temperature. In logarithmic scale, local solidification time was in inverse proportion to cooling rate. Eutectic nucleation temperature was in inverse proportion to cooling rate of logarithmic scale. Increasing the cooling rate refined dendrite arm spacing and eutectic silicon. Dendrite arm spacing was logarithmically in inverse proportion to cooling rate. Without modifier addition, eutectic silicon was modified at cooling rate of $7^{\circ}C/s$ or higher.
Compression tests were conducted at the various temperatures and strain rates to investigate void formation and microstructures behavior of a 1.9wt%C ultrahigh carbon steel used in forged workrolls. The microstructure, grain size and volume fraction of cementite were determined using specimens deformed in the temperature range from 800 to $1150^{\circ}C$ and strain rates from 0.01 to 10/s. It was found from the microstructural analysis that the grain size is larger at higher temperatures and lower strain rate deformation conditions. In addition, a higher volume fraction of cementite was measured at lower temperatures. The brittle blocky cementite was fractured at $800^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ regardless of strain rate. As a result, numerous new micro voids were formed in the fragmented blocky cementite. It was also found that local melting can occur at temperatures of more than $1130^{\circ}C$. Therefore, the forging temperature should be controlled between $900^{\circ}C$ and $1120^{\circ}C$. The temperature rise, which depends on the anvil stroke and velocity, was estimated through cogging simulation to find the appropriate forging temperature and to prevent local melting due to plastic work.
The ground source heat pump (GSHP) system is a kind of the temperature differential energy system using relatively stable underground temperature as heat source of space heating and cooling. This system can achieve higher performance of system than it of conventional air source heat pump systems. However, its superiority of the system performance is different according to installation location or local climate, because the system performance depends on the underground condition which is decided by annual average air temperature. In this study, in order to estimate the feasibility of the ground source heat pump system according to the local climate, numerical simulation was conducted using the ground heat transfer model and the surface heat balance model. The case study was conducted in the condition of Seoul, Daejeon, and Busan, In the result, the heat exchange rate of Busan was 34.33 W/m as the largest in heating season and it of Seoul was 40.61 W/m as the largest in cooling.
An experimental study was performed to investigate heat transfer characteristics of turbulent swirling flow in an axisymmetric annuli. The static pressure, the local flow temperature, and the wall temperature with decaying swirl were measured by using tangential inlet conditions and the friction factor and the local Nusselt number were calculated for Re=30000∼70000. The local Nusselt number was compared with that obtained from the Dittus-Boelter equation with swirl and without swirl. The results showed that the swirl enhances the heat transfer at the inlet and the outlet of the test tube.
Characteristics of turbulent lifted flames in coflow jet have been investigated by varying initial temperature through the heating of coflow air. In the turbulent regime, liftoff height increases linearly with fuel jet velocity and decreases nonlinearly as the coflow temperature increases. This can be attributed to the increase of turbulent propagation speed, which is strongly related to laminar burning velocity. Dimensionless liftoff heights are correlated well with dimensionless jet velocity, which are scaled with parameters determining local flow velocity and turbulent propagation speed. This implies that the turbulent lifted flames are stabilized by balance mechanism between local turbulent burning velocity and flow velocity. Blowout velocity can be obtained from the ratio of mixing time to chemical time. Comparing to previous researches, thermal diffusivity should be evaluated from the initial temperature instead of adiabatic flame temperature.
