  • In this study, a formulation of the idealized plate element based upon the idealized structural unit method(ISUM) firstly proposed by Ueda et.al is made in an attempt to analyze the geometric nonlinear behaviour up to the buckling strength of thin-walled long structures like box-column structure including the coupling effect between local and global buckling. An application to the example box-column is also performed and it is found that the present method gives reliable results with consuming very short computing times and therefore is very useful for evaluation of the buckling strength of thin-walled long structures.

  • In this paper we propose and analyze two a posteriori error estimators for the stabilized $P_1/P_1$ finite element discretization of the Stokes equations. These error estimators are computed by solving local Poisson or Stokes problems on elements of the underlying triangulation. We establish their asymptotic exactness with respect to the velocity error under certain conditions on the triangulation and the regularity of the exact solution.

  • This study identified the important service quality of the emerging night market as an alternative for the revitalization of the traditional market. This study also was to analyze the effects of service quality on customers' emotions, behavior intention and local performance in night market, and to provide an effective operation plan. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 16.0 Version, a statistical package program, and various results were discovered. First, all the service quality factors (convenience, food, event program, physical environment) had a positive (+) effect on positive emotion, and the service quality factors except event program had a negative (-) effect on negative emotions. Second, the service quality factors had a partially positive (+) effect on behavior intention and local performance. Third, the positive and negative emotions had a effect on behavior intention, however, the positive emotions had a positive (+) effect on local performance. Consequently, the present study confirmed that service quality in the night market is important factors for emotions, behavior intention, and local performance. Therefore, the findings of this study is capable of being the basic data for revitalizing the traditional market in the future.

  • This study purposed to analyze the regional variation of the local-out rates of inpatient services. Multiple data sources collected from National Health Insurance Corporation and statistics Korea were merged to produce the analysis data set. The unit of analysis in this study was city, Gun, Gu, and all of them were included in analysis. The dependent variable measured the local-out rate of inpatient cost in study regions. Local environments were measured by variables in three dimensions: provider factors, socio-demographic factors, and health status. Along with the traditional ordinary least square (OLS) based regression model, geographically weighted regression (GWR) model were applied to test their effects. SPSS v21 and ArcMap v10.2 were applied for the statistical analysis. Results from OLS regression showed that most variables had significant relationships with the local-out rate of inpatient services. However, some variables had shown diverse directions in regression coefficients depending on regions in GWR. This implied that the study variables might not have consistent effects and they may varied depending the locations.

  • We performed the numerical analysis on the characteristics of indoor air quality and local supply index with a variation of supply · exhaust airflow rate. We analyzed the local supply index and carbon dioxide concentration at the room and breathing zone with respect to the variation of the supply · exhaust airflow rate. From the numerical results, we found that local supply index was affected but carbon dioxide concentration was hardly affected by the variation of the airflow rate in the room. And we also knew that carbon dioxide concentration was raised in despite of the increment of the supply airflow rate in the breathing zone. After this study it is necessary to analyze the local exhaust index when we evaluate the state of the ventilation in the room.

  • The study aimed to investigate the level of customer trust, loyalty, and re-purchase intention of coastal tourism in Thailand during the COVID-19 crisis; to test the different levels of customer trust, loyalty, and re-purchase intention by local tourists between East-side and West-side coasts of Thailand; and to examine the influence of customer trust and loyalty on re-purchase intention in coastal tourism. Using multistage sampling, this study sampled 487 Thai local tourists who had experienced coastal tourism in Thailand during the COVID-19 crisis. A questionnaire, descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test, correlation matrix, and multiple regression analysis were used to collect and analyze the data. All customer trust, loyalty, and re-purchase intentions in coastal tourism by local tourists were at a high level. There were significantly different levels of customer trust, loyalty, and re-purchase intentions by local Thai tourists between the East-side and West-side coasts of Thailand. Moreover, the study found that there was a significant positive influence of customer trust and loyalty on re-purchase intentions in coastal tourism by local tourists in Thailand during the COVID-19 crisis. This study indicates that Thai tourism industry still must develop and improve its local customer loyalty and trust because these positively influence customer re-purchase intentions.

  • This research aims to analyze the external activities of local governments in South Korea from the perspective of the developing trends in city diplomacy, contrary to the conventional and narrow concept regarding local government's international exchange and cooperation as a public diplomacy. In detail, this research intends to illustrate the following: first, to differentiate South Korean local governments' growing commitment to international affairs from public diplomacy; second, to highlight the integration of public diplomacy with other forms of diplomacy within the framework of city diplomacy. This research argues that city diplomacy in South Korea has gradually shown the following three trends and characteristics. First, South Korean local governments have recognized the importance of participating in multilateral diplomacy via city networks to find compelling solutions to non-traditional and transnational security threats. They perceive this external activity as an opportunity for policy sharing and problem-solving with foreign partners. Second, local governments in South Korea have been fostering various ways to institutionalize their involvement in foreign affairs and organizations, such as amendments to related laws and the launching of task forces, to pursue so-called sustainable and systematic international exchange and cooperation. Lastly, South Korean local governments have constructed multiple channels and multilevel governance in the form of public-private partnerships to enhance policy expertise and cope with diverse agendas.

  • The main objective of this study is to analyze which aspects between cultural budget or cultural activity (such as musical, theater, classic performance etc) will affect more to enhance the happiness of the local government residents. This study tries to analyze the effect of 'cultural aspect' on local residents' happiness because relatively there are not enough studies to analyze the relationship between culture and happiness. Especially, it is hard to find out studies focusing on both cultural budget and activities. According to the empirical results, the relationship between cultural budget and citizens happiness turns out to be statistically significant in the direction of the positive, while the relationship between cultural activities and citizens happiness does not turn out to be statistically significant. This finding can be justified for policy makers to increase cultural budget to make cultural city. In addition, the reason why cultural activities are not significant can be interpreted from the perspective of 'accessibility', 'degree of quality' and 'incompatibility of cultural demand of residents' and finally this study provides various policy implications.

  • For rural landscape management to run in virtuous circle, the present study has paid attention to the roles and activities of local residents and administration, which are the main sectors of managing landscape. In this respect, this study is aimed to arrange the roles of local residents and administration for landscape management and propose the basic data necessary to develope evaluation index for effectiveness of rural landscape policy. Key findings and implications are as follows. First, literature reviews of 18 landscape management studies found 37 administrative roles and 7 roles of local residents. And those roles were classified into 3 factors by similar concept: 'local government support system', 'landscape management planning', and 'promoting the participation of residents'. Second, two Delphi surveys were conducted with landscape experts to verify the validity of those evaluation items by sector. Third, factor analysis was carried out to analyze the hierarchical structure of those evaluation items. 3 sub-factors were extracted from 'local government support system' sector; 2 sub-factors from the 'landscape management planning' sector; and 4 sub-factors from the 'promoting participation of residents' sector. Fourth, the hierarchy of those evaluation factors was divided into high and low classes and sub-indexes were structured to examine the relative importance of each class and assign a relative weight on each index. The most important sub-factors were turned out as follows: 'local residents' will to practice landscape activities (0.112)', 'local government budget for rural landscape management (0.088), and 'restriction on buildings by village regulation (0.068). It indicates the viewpoints of the landscape experts that local residents' voluntary participation in landscape activities and agreement of local residents on landscape management by village, e.g. village regulation, are preconditions for successful landscape management. In addition, it is significant for a local government to secure the budget of landscape management to support local residents support.

  • Purpose Local governments in each region actively hold local festivals for the purpose of promoting the region and revitalizing the local economy. Existing studies related to local festivals have been actively conducted in tourism and related academic fields. Empirical studies to understand the effects of latent variables on local festivals and studies to analyze the regional economic impacts of festivals occupy a large proportion. Despite of practical need, since few researches have been conducted to predict the number of visitors, one of the criteria for evaluating the performance of local festivals, this study developed a model for predicting the number of visitors through various observed variables using a machine learning algorithm and derived its implications. Design/methodology/approach For a total of 593 festivals held in 2018, 6 variables related to the region considering population size, administrative division, and accessibility, and 15 variables related to the festival such as the degree of publicity and word of mouth, invitation singer, weather and budget were set for the training data in machine learning algorithm. Since the number of visitors is a continuous numerical data, random forest, Adaboost, and linear regression that can perform regression analysis among the machine learning algorithms were used. Findings This study confirmed that a prediction of the number of visitors to local festivals is possible using a machine learning algorithm, and the possibility of using machine learning in research in the tourism and related academic fields, including the study of local festivals, was captured. From a practical point of view, the model developed in this study is used to predict the number of visitors to the festival to be held in the future, so that the festival can be evaluated in advance and the demand for related facilities, etc. can be utilized. In addition, the RReliefF rank result can be used. Considering this, it will be possible to improve the existing local festivals or refer to the planning of a new festival.
