  • Well bordered solid enlarged 16.7x9.7x8 cm in the size neoplasma was found in a 7-year-old lioness without any clinical signs of diseases in Chonju city zoo and surgically removed. Simple lobes were separated by pale gray yellowish fibrous tissue. The tumor parenchyma was yellowish with numerous cysts, necrotic foci and hemorrhages. Histologically neoplasma was composed of cell nests different in the size and shape with high mitotic activity. Slow invasive spreading on the border was observed. Formation of the narrow ductular lumina bordered the flattened cells leading to keratinization was seen in some places. It was noted by supplemental clinical investigations, that the tumor did not metastasized to other organs. This tumor is considered to be a sample of a malignant tumor without metastatic spreading and was note described in literature yet.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the neuroanatomical areas related with onomatopoeia (sound-imitated word). Using the block-designed fMRI, whole-brain images (N=11) were acquired during lexical decisions. We examined how the lexical information initiates brain activation during visual word recognition. The onomatopoeic word recognition activated the bilateral occipital lobes and superior mid-temporal gyrus.

  • Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory multisystem disease that primarily affects the axial joints. Pleuropulmonary involvement is an uncommon extra-articular manifestation of ankylosing spondylitis. There is a wide spectrum of pulmonary parenchymal changes in ankylosing spondylitis, beginning in the early stages of the disease and increasing over time. The lesions are usually asymptomatic, and not visible on chest radiographs in early stages. We reported a case of advanced ankylosing spondylitis in a 56-year-old man with progressive pulmonary bullous fibrocystic changes on both upper lobes that were misdiagnosed as tuberculosis in the early stages of the disease.

  • Three types of parabolic antenna to reduce the sidelobes and backlobe are compared to determine the best suppressive effect under same conditions which are side rim loading parabilic antenna, flanged prabolic antenna. The hooded parabolic antenna adhered polyurethan form impregnated carbon powder in shows the best shape of suppressed the side back lobes that is 5 to 10 dB suppression of sidelobe and 15dB suppression of back lobe for E-plane.

  • Herein is described a new species of Impatiens violascens B.U. Oh & Y.Y. Kim (Balsaminaceae) discovered on Bohyeon Mountain in Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. The new species is distinct from a closely-related species, I. textorii, by having a flower half the size that of I. textorii, sharply narrowed lower sepal, one half- to one time-coiled spur, and distal lobes of elliptical type laterally united petals. The key to these two species is provided.

  • Two marine tardigrades belonging to the genus Halechiniscus Richters, H. jejuensis n. sp. and H. remanei Schulz are recorded from Jeju Island, Korea. Halechiniscus jejuensis n. sp. is distinguished from the congeners by the shape and position of lateral body processes, the shape of sensory papilla on leg IV, and the contour of head portion not clearly divided into two lobes. A revised key to the nine species of the genus Halechiniscus is prepared.

  • We present kinematic properties of the narrow-line region in three type-2 QSOs at z~0.35, using 2-D spectra obtained with the VIMOS integral field unit spectrograph at the Very Large Telescope. One of the objects shows a line-of-sight velocity shift of the [OIII] and $H{\beta}$ lines up to 40km/s on a 15 kpc scale, which can be interpreted as either outflow or rotation. The outflow scenario is supported by the presence of blue wings and a radio structure showing lobes in the same direction. Another object features double-peaked emission lines which can be decomposed into two velocity components. Its Hubble Space Telescope image shows two nuclei separated by ~0.2"(~1kpc), implying this may be a binary AGN.

  • Lecanora muralis was found on the rock along coastal line during the field trip in Jeju island in 2006. Thallus crustose, placodioid, closely adnate, forming orbicular patches; upper surface grayish green, glossy; central lobes areolate, marginal parts plane, edges thin pruinose; lower surface ecorticate; apothecia sessile, lecanorine type, exciple dense and intact when young, and disc plane, but when mature, exciple laciniate, disc protrudent, yellowish brown to orange, $0.5{\sim}1.5$ mm in diameter; ascospores ellipsoid, simple, colorless, $12.5{\sim}15.0{\times}5.0{\sim}7.5\;{\mu}m$. Usnic acid and zeorin contained in thallus. This is the first record of this species in South Korea.

  • The frequency of sex chromatin in neutrophil leukocyte of 14 female and 4 male normal, adult rabbits was examined and compared to those of single total X-ray irradiation. 1. The average frequency of of drumstck was 9 % in female and 0.1% in male, and that of sessile nodule was 3.35% in female and 0.9% in male , in normal condition rabbit . These results fairly determined sex ratio by sex chromatin in neutrophil leukocyte. 2. The drumstick frequency reduces to half after X-irradiaton but did not show any regular tendency or variation in morphologicla form, indicating the stability of chromatin to X-irradiation. 4. The chromatin satellite was found with a reasonable frequency in the some kinds of irradiated cells, polymorphonuclear neutrophil (above 7 lobes 0 and megakarycyte.
