Sixteen soil samples around six areas (residental area, traffic area, power plant area, incineration area and factory area) where the stationary and mobile sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are estimated to be emitted in Jeju City, were collected during Feburuary to March, 2004, and analyzed for 16 PAHs recommended by US EPA as primary pollutants to investigate their distribution characteristics. The concentrations of total PAHs (t-PAHs) and total carcinogenic PAHs $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ in soils of Jeju City were in the range of $21.7\sim264.2ng/g$ on a dry weight basis with a mean value of 87.2 ng/g and $6.3\sim118.0ng/g$ with a mean value of 33.4 ng/g, respectively. The concentrations of t-PAHs were low in comparison with those in soils of other domestic and foreign countries. The mean concentrations of t-PAHs and $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ with area decreased in the following sequences: traffic area> incineration area > factory area > power generation area > harbor area enli residental area. The correlation between t-PAHs and $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ were very high $(\gamma^2=0.9701)$, indicating that $(t-PAH_{CARC})$ concentration increases in proportion with t-PAHs. Comparing the distribution ratio of ring PAHs with area among 16 PAHs, it decreased in the order of 4-ring > 5-ring > 6-ring > 3-ring > 2-ring in all the areas except for harbor area. whitens for harbor area it was similar among 3-, 4- and 5-ring with high value. Low and no correlations between t-PAHs and soil compositions (organic matter content and particle size distribution) were observed, which is considered to be caused by the complex factors, such as the loading and characteristics of PAHs and diverse soil environment change, etc. From the examination of the three PAH origin indices, such as LMW/HMW (low molecular weight $2\sim3$ ring PAHs over high molecular weight $4\sim6$ ring PAHs), phenanthrene/anthracene ratio and fluoranthene/pyrene ratio, it can be concluded that the soil PAH contaminations were ascribed to strong pyrogenic origin in ail areas except for harbor area and to both pyrogenic and petrogenic origins.

In this paper, when the glass plate of fragile material is subjected to impact load, the fracture pattern and the generation phenomenon of cone crack were theoretically clarified by using the analysis method of impulsive stress in the first paper. The numerical analysis results of strain distribution at a distance of 0.1cm, from the impact loading point to 5cm, were compared with experimental results. The main conclusions obtained are as follows; (1) The generation phenomenon of cone crack at the impact fracture of the glass plate can be analytically confirmed by using the three dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity. And the numerical analysis results of strain distribution using this theory are relatively in close agreement with the crack size obtained from the impact fracture experiment. (2) After the stress wave generated at the impact point propagated to the spherical compressive wave, this stress wave reflected from the back surface and reached again at the surface of the plate to the spherical stress wave. Then the generation of cone crack can be confirmed along the stress wave surface. (3) The plate is the thicker, the more is the generation phenomenon of cone crack at the lower impact velocity range (20m/s-35m/s). Because the fracture generate before the maximum tensile stress acting to the glass plate, cone crack was rarely ever generated.
A novel material, $Bi_2WO_6-GO-TiO_2$ composite, was successfully synthesized using a facile hydrothermal method. During the hydrothermal reaction, the loading of $Bi_2WO_6$ and $TiO_2$ nanoparticles onto graphene sheets was achieved. The obtained $Bi_2WO_{6-GO-TiO2}$ composite photo-catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis-DRS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The $Bi_2WO_6$ nanoparticle showed an irregular dark-square block nanoplate shape, while $TiO_2$ nanoparticles covered the surface of the graphene sheets with a quantum dot size. The degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue trihydrate (MB), and reactive black B (RBB) dyes in an aqueous solution with different initial amount of catalysts was observed by UV spectrophotometry after measuring the decrease in the concentration. As a result, the $Bi_2WO_6-GO-TiO_2$ composite showed good decolorization activity with MB solution under visible light. The $Bi_2WO_6-GO-TiO_2$ composite is expected to become a new potential material for decolorization activity. Photocatalytic reactions with different photocatalysts were explained by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model and a band theory.

This study was performed to classify the fatigue crack opening and closure for three kinds of aluminum alloy using principal component analysis (PCA). Fatigue cycle loading test was conducted to acquire AE signals which come from different source mechanisms such as crack opening and closure, rubbing, fretting etc. To extract the significant feature from AE signal, correlation analysis was performed. Over 94% of the variance of AE parameters could accounted for the first two principal components. The results of the PCA on AE parameters showed that the first principal component was associated with the size of AE signals and the second principal component was associated with the shape of AE signals. An artificial neural network (ANN) an analysis was successfully used to classify AE signals into six classes. The ANN classifier based on PCA appeared to be a promising tool to classify AE signals for fatigue crack opening and closure.
This study was conducted to evaluate the application of a bio-composite made by the addition recycled fiber board flour as filler. Recycled fiber board (high density fiber board, HDF) flour was added to polyolefin polymer low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) for the preparation of bio-composite materials. The mechanical properties and processability of the recycled HDF flour filled LDPE and recycled HDF flour filled PP bio-composites were then measured and compared to those of wood flour (WF) and rice-husk flour (RHF) filled LDPE and PP bio-composites, respectively. The tensile and impact strengths of the recycled HDF flour filled LDPE and PP bio-composites had similar mechanical properties to those of the WF and RHF filled LDPE and PP bio-composites. To measure the processability, torques of the bio-composites were also measured. The torques of the HDF flour filled LDPE and PP bio-composites were lower than those of the WF and RHF filled polyolefin (PP and LDPE) bio-composites with a filler loading of 30 wt.%. This result showed definite processability, which was not related with the distribution of the particle size of the material added. The recycled fiber board flour filled bio-composites showed applicability as substitutes for the bio-composites currently used in the bio-composites industry.
Effects of various factors on the phenol degradation by activated sludge immobilized with the photo-crosslinked resin were investigated. The optimum pH on the degradation of phenol in both free and immobilized activated sludge was 7. When the pH of the reaction was varied from 5 to 10, the relative activity of the phenol degradation by the immobilized activated sludge was higher than that by the free activated sludge. A higher rate of phenol degradation was observed when a bead size was smaller. The phenol degradation in the free activated sludge was inhibited at the 3000 mg/L of phenol, while that in the immobilized activated sludge was maintained at the same concentration for 28 hrs without an inhibition. The degradation rates of phenol were not directly proportional to the increasing amount of immobilized beads dosage, but the phenol degradation was made in a rather short time than that for a free sludge system. The relative activities of the immobilized activated sludge after 7 runs of repeated reactions increased about 8 times as that of the first reaction. The activities for the phenol degradation remained stable for at least 80 days when the immobilized activated sludge was stored at an aerobic condition in the wastewater containing phenol. The loading rate as high as 5.59 kg-pheno1/㎥.d could have been achieved during the continuous treatment of phenol by the immobilized activated sludge.

Pubilc utility industries including the electric utility industry are facing a new stream of privatization com-petition with the private sector and deregulation. The necewssity to solve now and in the future power supply and demand problems has been increasing through the sophisticated generation expansion plan(GEP) approach con-sidering not only KEPCo's supply-side resources but also outside resources such as non-utility generation(NUG) demand-side management (DSM). Under the environmental situation in the current electric utility industry a new approach is needed to acquire multiple resources competitively. This study presents the development of a modified electric generation expansion analysis system(EGEAS) model with avoided cost based on the existing EGEAS model which is a dynamic program to develope an optimal generation expansion plan for the electric utility. We are trying to find optimal GEP in Korea's case using our modified model and observe the difference for the level of reliabilities such as the reserve margin(RM) loss of load probability(LOLP) and expected unserved energy percent(EUEP) between the existing EGEAS model and our model. In addition we are trying to calculate avoided cost for NUG resources which is a criterion to evaluate herem and test possibility of connection calculation of avoided cost with GEP implementation using our modified model. The results of our case study are as follows. First we were able to find that the generation expansion plan and reliability measures were largely influenced by capacity size and loading status of NUG resources, Second we were able to find that avoided cost which are criteria to evaluate NUG resources could be calculated by using our modified EGEAS model with avoided cost. We also note that avoided costs were calculated by our model in connection with generation expansion plans.

Recently, the construction industry has been changed in such a way that the cost for bridge construction should be optimized or reduced. Therefore, bridges are required be cost-effective in terms of initial construction as well as in the maintenance during service stage. In order to reduce the cost for bridge construction, the Rahmen typed structure, in which the bridge components from superstructure to substructure are integral, has many advantages to reduce the size of structural members including girders, since the loadings from superstructure may be transferred to substructure through the connecting rebars such as stud, etc. This paper studied on the continuous Up and Down Prestressed Concrete (UD PSC) girder bridge in which the reinforced concrete pier cap is integral with the part of girders in superstructure. In previous studies, it is known that the structural behavior of continuous UD PSC girder bridge is quite different compared to the one of the bridges with conventional bearings or shoes to support the loading from girders. Nevertheless, it has hardly been studied about the structural behavior of bridge with UD PSC girder. Therefore, in this study, various dynamic behaviors of continuous UD PSC girder bridge with integral pier cap have been analyzed using numerical method. Furthermore, an equation to evaluate the impact factor is suggested for the UD PSC girder bridge which has two to three continuous spans.

In this study, an analytical studies were carried out for the buoyancy preflexion method to improve structural performance of concrete floating structures. The buoyancy preflexion means that the preflexion effects were induced to the floating structure due to the difference in buoyancy between the pontoon modules composing the floating structures. In order to verify the buoyancy preflexion effects, an analytical studies were carried out for the floating structures. The size and dimensions of FE model were determined through the structural design process. The parameter of this analytical study was length ratios of central module part, which induces buoyancy preflexion effects, to the total length. The analysis results were pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab and displacement of freeboard due to buoyancy preflexion effects. These results were processed according to the loading step, buoyancy preflexion loads on the bottom and live loads on the topside. Then, the buoyancy preflexion effects on structural performance was analyzed. As the results of this study, it was found that the buoyancy preflexion significantly influence on structural performance of floating structures. According to the length ratio, the buoyancy preflexion effects have a tendency of parabolic form and maximized at the length ratio of 40~60%. The buoyancy preflexion method is simple in principle and easy in application. Also, it can effectively induce pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab. Therefore, it can be concluded that the buoyancy preflexion method contribute to the improvement of structural performance and decreasing of the cross-sectional depth of floating structures.

Pretension PSC (Prestressed Concrete) members are subjected to a certain limit of size as they are generally produced in the off-site plant and transferred to the site due to the large scale of the product on system. In this study, a portable pretensioning production system has been developed, which allow us to apply the pretension method on site. Considering that a 50m span PSC girder using the pretension method requires a pressing device to endure a large jacking force, the portable pretension production system has to ensure safety against such a large pretension jacking force. In this study, the portable pretensioning system to produce a 50m span pretension girder was manufactured by using CFT (Concrete Filled steel Tube) members. In order to understand the stability of the system and the behavior of the elements, a static loading test was conducted and the stability of the proposed portable pretensioning production system was confirmed. The developed portable pretension system was applied to several construction sites and was investigated the problems on site. During the pretension girder and slab members that was producted by this pretension system in construction site, it has be found the several advantages such as simple fabrication processes, reduction of prestress-loss, and a decrease of 15% compared with the fabrcation cost of post-tension girder. After due consideration of the problems, this portable pretension system will be improved.
