The effect of a chemical pretreatment on the surface carbon was investigated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrochemical methods. Primitive carbon has a reducing power likely due to incompletely oxidized functional groups on the surface. We aim to control this reducing power by chemical treatment and apply for the spontaneous deposition of nanoparticles (NPs). Highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) was initially treated with a reducing agent, NaBH4 or an oxidizing agent, KMnO4, for 5 min. Subsequently, the pretreated carbon was immersed in a platinum (Pt) precursor. Unexpectedly, SEM images showed that the reducing agent increased spontaneous PtNPs deposition while the oxidizing agent decreased Pt loading more as compared to that of using bare carbon. However, the amount of Pt on the carbon obviously decreased by NaBH4 treatment for 50 min. Secondly, spontaneous reduction on pretreated glassy carbon (GC) was investigated using the catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). GC electrode treated with NaBH4 for a short and long time showed small (onset potential: -640 mV vs. MSE) and large overpotential for the HER, respectively. Although the mechanism is unclear, the electrochemistry results correspond to the optical data. As a proof-of-concept, these results demonstrate that chemical treatments can be used to design the shapes and amounts of deposited catalytic metal on carbon by controlling the surface state.
PURPOSE. The influence of the modified process in the fiber-reinforced post and resin core foundation treatment on the fracture resistance and failure pattern of premolar was tested in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty-six human mandibular premolars were divided into 4 groups (n = 9). In group DCT, the quartz fibre post (D.T. Light-post) was cemented with resin cement (DUO-LINK) and a core foundation was formed with composite resin (LIGHT-CORE). In group DMO and DMT, resin cement (DUO-LINK) was used for post (D.T. Lightpost) cementation and core foundation; in group DMO, these procedures were performed simultaneously in one step, while DMT group was accomplished in separated two steps. In group LCT, the glass fiber post (LuxaPost) cementation and core foundation was accomplished with composite resin (LuxaCore-Dual) in separated procedures. Tooth were prepared with 2 mm ferrule and restored with nickel-chromium crowns. A static loading test was carried out and loads were applied to the buccal surface of the buccal cusp at a 45 degree inclination to the long axis of the tooth until failure occurred. The data were analyzed with MANOVA (${\alpha}$= .05). The failure pattern was observed and classified as either favorable (allowing repair) or unfavorable (not allowing repair). RESULTS. The mean fracture strength was highest in group DCT followed in descending order by groups DMO, DMT, and LCT. However, there were no significant differences in fracture strength between the groups. A higher prevalence of favorable fractures was detected in group DMT but there were no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSION. The change of post or core foundation method does not appear to influence the fracture strength and failure patterns.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the correlation of the subjective and the objective evaluation of edentulous ridge bone quality, and to evaluate the change of the dental implant stability in each bone density group for early healing period after implant installation. Methods: Sixty-seven implants(Osstem implant$^{(R)}$, Seoul, Korea) were included in this study. We evaluated the bone density by 2 methods. The one was the subjective method which was determined by practitioner s tactile sense, the other was the objective bone type was based on Hounsfield units. The implant stability in each bone type group was assessed by resonance frequency analyzer(Osstell mentor$^{(R)}$). Data were analyzed for the change of the implant stability, and they were compared to verify the difference of groups at the time of installation, 2, 6, 10, 14 weeks postoperatively. Spearman's correlation was used to demonstrate the correlation between the subjective and the objective evaluation of the bone density, and analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used to analyze the differences of implant stability at each time point. Results: There was no close relation between the subjective and the objective evaluation of the bone density(r=0.57). In the subjective groups, there was statistically significant difference between the type 1 and 3 at 10 weeks and between the type 2 and 3 at 14 weeks. In the objective groups, there was no statistically significant difference between the D 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 group with regard to RFA from baseline to 14 weeks(P>0.1). Conclusions: The implant stability increased over time during the study, and it was improved with bone density proportionally after 2weeks postoperatively. It is recommended that the decision of bone density is base on Hounsfield unit for implant loading time.

Purpose: To develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Moral Distress Scale-Revised (KMDS-R) to assess its applicability to Korean hospital nurses. Methods: The KMDS-R was articulated through forward-backward translation methods. Internal consistency reliability, construct and criterion validity was calculated using SPSSWIN(19.0). Survey data were collected from 188 nurses from a university hospital in Gangwon-do, South Korea. Results: The KMDS-R showed reliable internal consistency with a Cronbach's alpha of .69-.87 and a Guttman Split-half of .69-.82 for the total scale. Factor loading of the 21 items on the five subscales ranged from .41-.80. The KMDS-R was validated by factor analysis and explained 63% of moral distress for Korean hospital nurses. Criterion validity compared to Yoo's MDS showed significant correlation. Conclusion: The results suggest promising evidence of the KMDS-R's reliability and validity. It is used to measure moral distress for Korean hospital nurses.

The objective of this study is to develop a damage model based on damage mechanics that can be used to analyze the mechanical behavior of structures with defects and the global behavior of damaged structures. A modified second order damage tensor that can be applied to finite element analysis is used to reflect the effect of damage. The damage stress computed from the effective stress is considered as an additional loading term acting on nodes and can represent the effect of crack surface. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the analysis results with the experimental data from other studies and the analysis results based on transverse isotropic theory. The developed damage model is applied to the analyses of structures with cracks under linear elastic condition. The comparisons confirmed that the quantitative analysis of the structural behavior due to crack orientation and multiple sets of cracks is possible. Also, the damage caused by rock excavation and fault zone is analyzed. The results also showed that the developed model can effectively analyze the global behavior of damaged structures.
Logistics systems provide their service to customers by coordinating the resources with limited capacity throughout the underlying processes involved to each other. To maintain the high level of service under such complicated condition, it is essential to carry out the real-time monitoring and continuous management of logistics processes. In this study, we propose a method of estimating the service completion time of key processes based on process-state information collected in real time. We first identify the factors that influence the process completion time by modeling and analyzing an influence diagram, and then suggest algorithms for quantifying the factors. We suppose the container terminal logistics and the process of discharging and loading containers to a vessel. The remaining service time of a vessel is estimated using a decision tree which is the result of machine-learning using historical data. We validated the estimation model using container terminal simulation. The proposed model is expected to improve competitiveness of logistics systems by forecasting service completion in real time, as well as to prevent the waste of resources.
TPLMS programs in four large rivers have been developed to improve the water quality from possible pollutants originated from watershed areas. The success of TPLMS program is depended on nonpoint source control. Currently, the pollutant loading from nonpoint pollution sources is gradually increasing as developing the nearby watershed. However, there are not enough data concerning on nonpoint pollution in Korea because of lacking of monitoring activities. It is the main reason of uncertainty. Therefore, this manuscript will summarize the EMCs in various landuses based on monitoring program. Also the EMC in each paved area will be compared and discussed to find the differences. When the EMC is compared by average monitored sample concentrations, the EMC values are 2-4 times higher than sample concentrations. It means the monitoring program is very important in the field of nonpoint pollution. The pollutant loadings from bridge landuse is higher than loadings from parking lot and highway because of more traffic activities.
It is often believed that a more complex water quality model is better able to simulate reality. The more complex a model, however, the more parameters are involved thus increases the cost and uncertainty of modeling processes. The objective of this study was to compare the performance of two steady-state river water quality models, QUAL2E and QUAL-NIER, that have different complexity. QUAL-NIER is recently developed by National Institute of Environmental Research aiming to enhance the simulation capability of QUAL2E for eutrophic rivers. It is a carbon based model that considers different forms, such as dissolved versus particulate and labile versus refractory, of carbon and nutrients, and the contribution of autochthonous loading due to algal metabolism. The models were simultaneously applied to Nakdong River and their performance was evaluated by statistical verification with field data. Both models showed similar performance and satisfactorily replicated the longitudinal variations of BOD, T-N, T-P, Chl.a concentrations along the river. The algal blooms occurred at the stagnant reaches of downstream were also reasonably captured by the models. Although QUAL-NIER somewhat reduced the magnitude of errors, the hypothesis tests revealed no statistical evidence to justify its better performance. The contribution of autochthonous carbon and nutrient load by algal metabolism was insignificant because the hydraulic retention time is relatively short compare to the time scale of kinetic reactions. The results imply that the kinetic processes included in QUAL-NIER are too complex for the nature and scale of the real processes involved, thus needs to be optimized for improving the modeling efficiency.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between different soccer cleat designs and knee joint moments. Twelve physically active males (mean(SD): age: 26.4(6.2)yrs; height: 176.4(4.1)cm; mass: 74.0 (7.4)kg) were recruited Kinematic and force plate data were collected for all subjects during normal running and a $45^{\circ}$ cutting maneuver, called a v-cut. Both motions were performed at $4.0{\pm}0.2\;m/s$ on infilled artificial turf with three pairs of soccer cleats of different sole plate designs, and one pair of neutral running shoes. Inverse dynamics were used to calculate three dimensional knee joint moments, with repeated measures ANOVA and post hoc paired Student's t-test used to determine significance between shoe conditions. Significant differences were found in the extension moments of the knee for running trials, and for external rotation and adduction moments in the v-cutting trials. Knee moments were greater in v-cut than running, and the traditional soccer cleats (Copa Mondial and World Cup) tended to result in greater knee moments than the Nova runner or TRX soccer cleat. Cleat design was found to influence 3-dimensional knee moments in a v-cut maneuver. In the translational traction test, there were significant differences between all conditions. In the rotational traction test, friction with soccer shoes were greater than friction with running shoes. However, no differences were found between soccer shoes. Higher moments may lead to increased loads and stresses on knee joint structures, and thus, greater injury rates.

Concern about nonpoint source pollution associated with urban storm water has led to the development of new tools for better water quality planning. This paper presents an application of a geographic information system (GIS) for urban water quality study. The GIS was used to manage land use data for nonpoint source pollution modeling and to aggregate pollutant loadings within various types of geographic units. An empirical water quality model was used to estimate pollutant loadings based primarily on land use. A land use coverage was created by updating an old coverage through interpretation of recent photography. This land use coverage was also used to record all pollutant loadings for each land use polygon. Storm sewer maps were digitized and interpreted to create a coverage of storm sewer basins and sub-basins. By overlaying pollutant loadings with the sewer sub-basin layer, aggregated pollutant loadings for major sewer outfalls were calculated. Based on the loading information, critical areas of excessive pollutant loadings were located and the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs) to control pollutant loadings were evaluated.
