  • This paper presents an advanced load allocation algorithm in Direct Load Control(DLC) system. It is important to aggregate a various demand side resource which is surely controllable at the peak power time for a successful DLC system. Previous load allocation algorithm appropriate for DLC system is based on interchanged information, but, this algorithm can not derive optimal solutions. In this paper, we develop the optimal algorithm and the new load allocation algorithm in polynomial time. The simulation results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm for DLC system is very effective.

  • In this study, static pile load tests with load transfer measurement were accomplished in the field. Yield pile capacity (or ultimate pile capacity) determined by load-settlement-time relationship was determined and axial load transfer behavior was analyzed. In the test for the four test piles were behaved as end bearing pile but ratios of skin friction to total pile capacity were 27%∼33%.

  • This paper presents a method of improving the performance of a day-ahead 24-h load curve and peak load forecasting. The next-day load curve is forecasted using radial basis function (RBF) neural network models built using the best design parameters. To improve the forecasting accuracy, the load curve forecasted using the RBF network models is corrected by the weighted sum of both the error of the current prediction and the change in the errors between the current and the previous prediction. The optimal weights (called "gains" in the error correction) are identified by differential evolution. The peak load forecasted by the RBF network models is also corrected by combining the load curve outputs of the RBF models by linear addition with 24 coefficients. The optimal coefficients for reducing both the forecasting mean absolute percent error (MAPE) and the sum of errors are also identified using differential evolution. The proposed models are trained and tested using four years of hourly load data obtained from the Korea Power Exchange. Simulation results reveal satisfactory forecasts: 1.230% MAPE for daily peak load and 1.128% MAPE for daily load curve.

  • This paper proposes a dynamic downlink load control scheme that jointly employs dynamic load threshold management and virtual coverage management schemes to reduce the degree of performance degradation due to traffic overload in two-tier femtocell networks. With the proposed scheme, the downlink load in a serving macrocell is controlled with a load threshold which is adjusted dynamically depending on the varying downlink load conditions of neighboring macrocells. In addition, traffic overloading is alleviated by virtually adjusting the coverage of the overloaded serving macrocell, based on the adjusted load threshold of the serving macrocell. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance of two-tier femtocell networks in terms of the outage probability and sum throughput. This improvement is significantly increased with appropriate values of load thresholds and with an intermediate-level adjustment of the virtual coverage area (i.e., handover hysteresis margin: HOM). Furthermore, the proposed scheme outperforms both a previously proposed load control scheme with a static load threshold and the LTE system without a HOM adjustment.

  • Short-term electric load forecasting of power systems is essential for the power system stability and the efficient power system operation. An accurate load forecasting scheme improves the power system security and saves some economic losses in power system operations. Due to scarcity of the historical same type of holiday load data, most big electric load forecasting errors occur on load forecasting for the holidays. The fuzzy linear regression model has showed good accuracy for the load forecasting of the holidays. However, it is not good enough to forecast the load of the election day. The concept of the load variation rate for the load forecasting of the election day is introduced. The proposed algorithm shows its good accuracy in that the average percentage error for the short-term 24 hourly loads forecasting of the election days is 2.27%. The accuracy of the proposed 24 hourly loads forecasting of the election days is compared with the fuzzy linear regression method. The proposed method gives much better forecasting accuracy with overall average error of 2.27%, which improved about average error of 2% as compared to the fuzzy linear regression method.

  • Failure of high-voltage transmission line, which is responsible for large-scale power transmission, can be reason for system voltage instability. There are many methods to prevent voltage instability like adjustment of equipment, the generator voltage setting, and load shedding. Among them, the load shedding, have a problem of economic loss and cascading effect to power system. Therefore, the execution of load shedding, amount and timing is very important. Conventionally, the load shedding setting is decided by the preformed simulation. Now, it is possible to monitor the power system in real time by the appearance of PMU(Phasor Measurement Unit). By this reason, some of research is performed about decentralized load shedding. The characteristics of the load can impact to amount and timing of decentralized load shedding. Especially, it is necessary to consider the influence of the induction motor loads. This paper review recent topic about under voltage load shedding and compare with decentralized load shedding scheme with conventional load shedding scheme. And simulations show the effectiveness of proposed method in resolving the delayed voltage recovery in the Korean Power System.

  • In this paper, a methodology to use load duration curve and the reactive power factor sensitivity of generation cost is proposed for analyzing the effects of load power factor effectively. A great deal of cases of power systems are classified into several patterns according to the characteristics using load duration curve, and the overall effects of load power factor are assessed by integrating the analysis results of load power factor in all the patterns. The reactive power sensitivity of generation cost and the integrated costs such as generation cost, investment cost, voltage variation penalty cost and CO2 emission cost are used for determining an appropriate load power factor. A systematic procedure for effective analysis of load power factor is presented. It is shown through the application to the practical power system of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation)that the effects of load power factor can be analyzed effectively using load duration curve and reactive power factor sensitivity.

  • Due to difficulty of considering dynamic load in side of a computer resource and computing time, it is common that external load is assumed as ideal static load. However, structural analysis under static load cannot guarantee the safety of structural design. Recently, the systematic method to construct equivalent static load from the given dynamic load has been proposed. Previous study has calculated equivalent static load through the optimization procedure under displacement constraints. And previously reported works to distribute equivalent static load were based on ad hoc methods. However, it is appropriate to take into account the stress constraint for the safety design. Moreover, the improper selection of loading position may results in unreliable structural design. The present study proposes the methodology to optimize an equivalent static which distributed on the primary DOFs, DOFs of the constraint elements, DOF of an external load as positions. In conclusion, the reliability of proposed method is demonstrated through a global optimization.

  • In this paper, inverse building modeling was applied to building perimeter zones which have different window orientation. Two test zones of east-facing and west-facing zones in ERS(Energy Resource Station) building, which is representative of small commercial building, was used to test performance of cooling load calculation and peak cooling load reduction. The dynamic thermal load model for the east and west zone was validated using measured data for the zones and then it was used to investigate the effect of peak cooling load reduction by adjustment of indoor cooling temperature set points during on-peak time period. For the east zone, the peak load can be reduced to about 60% of the peak load for conventional control even without any precooling. For the west zone, PLR is nearly independent of the start of the on-peak period until a start time of 1pm. Furthermore, PLR has a small dependence on the precooling duration. Without any precooling, the peak cooling load can be reduced to about 35% of the peak load associated with conventional control.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the effect of power system load model on the short-term voltage stability analysis results. First, we introduced common load models. We also confirmed that some load models can not represent actual system phenomena even if the model parameters are optimized. Also, we studied about the influences of load parameters and regional characteristics of load model on the sort-term voltage stability of KEPCO power system considering the contingency. The results showed that the importance of selecting a load model was confirmed again. And we recognized about it can be understood that it should reflect the load characteristics of the area near the assumed contingency more accurately.
