  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate biomechanical characteristics of trekking shoes using 3D Bootie method as mimics barefoot form of F Co. that provides the best comfort and plantar pressure dispersion. The control group is normal trekking shoes of M Co. and K Co.. 13 healthy males measured the foot pressure, EMG and GRF. Collected data was analyzed using One-way ANOVA in order to investigate the effects of each trekking shoes. The results are as follows: Trekking shoe of F Co. was significantly wider in contact area than others at MF and significantly lower in maximum force, peak pressure than others at RF. In the case of muscle activity, acted in the same way as the effect of barefoot walking. In the case of GRF, effectively absorbed the impact force, so it is possible to efficient walking. As a result of the analysis, trekking shoe using of 3D Bootie method of F Co. can be efficient walking by reducing the load of foot during walking.

  • The failure phenomenon of overlaid concrete structures, such as surface crack, and peel-off failure, shear bond failure in the end contact zone, was investigated due to humidity changes. To investigate this failure phenomenon, the surface tensile stress, and the shear stress, the vertical tensile stress in the contact zone were analysed using the non-linear stress-strain relationship of material such as strain-hardening- and strain-softening diagrams. Overlay thickness and overlay material were the main variables in the analyses. It is assumed that the initial surface humidity of overlaid concrete structures was 100% r.H. With a atmospheric humidity of 55% r.H. and two load cases for drying(LCI), curing and drying(LC2), the stress states of overlaid concrete structures were calculated. The result shows that only fictitious cracks occurred in the overlay surface of CM2O, ECM25, and no shear bond failure occurred in the contact zone without CM2O. The peel-off failure was proved to be the main cause of the damage in the overlaid concrete structures. Only for overlay thickness of 1cm occurred no peel-off failure in the case of drying after a long-term public use(LC1). In the case of curing and drying during overlay work(LC2) occurred the peel-off failure within 1.5days for all the overlaid concrete structures.

  • To compare the wear resistance of four kinds of commercial acrylic resin teeth [SR-Orthosit PosterioresR(Ivoclar Co., Liechtenstein), Endura PosteriorR(Shofu Inc. Japan), trubyte IPN teethR(Dentsply International Inc., York,), Trubyte BiotoneR(dentsply Inermational Inc. Brazil) by means of the toothbrush abrasion method, the artificial resin teeth were embedded in epoxy resin with the occlusal surfaces aligned in one plane for a total of 40 blocks. There after, each lock was mounted in the arm of the toothbrush abrasion machine(K 236, Japan). Wear measurements were made on the three preconditioned states. Those were as follows : no treatment specimens, thermocycled specimens, and thermocycled specimens which were immeresed applied load of 400g during the buring the brushing cycle. At the end of the 30,000-stroke cycle, each specimen was removed, and weighed. The microhardness of four kinds of commercial resin teeth were determined by means of microhardness tester. Microhardness tests were performed on te no treatment specimens, thermocycled specimens, and thermocycled specimens with immersion in the denture cleansing solution. Finally, the comparison of thermal properties were perfomed using differential scanning calorimeter(DSC-1500). The following results were obtained : 1. In the case of no treatment teeth, the wear amount of endura Posterior(EN) was the greatest among the others(p<0.01), and the wear amount of three kinds of artificial resin teeth was increased in the order of Trubyte IPN teeth(IN), Trubyte Biotone(BN), SR-Orthosit Posteriores(SN) but there was no statistic significance(p>0.01). 2. The wear amount of Trubyte IPN teeth(IT) and Trubyte Biotone(BT), was increased due to thermocycling effect, but that of Endura Posteriores(ET) was decreased conversely(p<0.01). 3. Except for the SR-Orthosit Posteriores(STC), the wear amount of three kinds of artificial resing teeth(that is, ETC, ITC, BTC) was increased due to denture cleansing solution$(Cledent^R)$, but there was no statistic significance(p>0.01). But the wear amount of the SR-Orthosit Posteriores(STC) was the greatest among the others(p<0.01). 4. The wear amount of toothbrush was the greatest in case of contact with occlusal surface of SROrthosit Posteriores resin teeth(p<0.01). 5. the microhardness values(KHN) of the SR-Orthosit Posteriores was the highest among the experimental artificial resin teeth(p<0.01). 6. There was no relationship between microhardness valuse(KHN) and wear amount of four kinds of experimental artificial resin teeth(p<0.01). 7. The differential canning calorimetric property of four kinds of artificial resin teeth did not show endothermal or exothermal peak in the range of $100^{\circ}C$

  • In the arctic offshore regions, massive offshore gravity platforms are recommended to be construced because of severe environments. In such structures which is so large that its characteristic length is of the order of the wave length, wave-structure interaction problem has been solved using linear diffraction theory. Structural analysis of the large scale offshore structures requires wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. In this study, existing computer program which calculates the total wave force acting on axisymmetric bodies has been modified to calculate wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. Numerical results of pressure distribution for a fixed vertical cylinder obtained from this analysis has been compared with the results of an analytic solution of MacCamy-Fuchs, and good agreements has been obtained. It is desirable to use 6 in the case of analytic solution, and 5 in the case of numerical solution as the Fourier Mode of Green function. The results in this study are expected to be utilized for structural analysis such as pseudo-static analysis, dynamic analysis and fatigue analysis.

  • As a core process in the manufacture of state-of-the-art industrial technologies such as semiconductor and LCD, a clean room is the most important process which can affect the performance and quality of products drastically. Nevertheless, scientific research on comprehensive safety measures from a fire protection standpoint is not being carried out in Korea. This study aims to derive measures to improve smoke control systems by identifying performance and problems of smoke systems installed in clean rooms as an LCD manufacturing process and analyzing fire and evacuation simulations considering several scenarios. As a result of analysis of fires and smoke in a clean roomas an LCD manufacturing process, it is found to be necessary to stop air handling units through interlocking in case of a fire and exhaust smoke out of the room through the top of FAB in consideration of buoyancy of smoke. It is also found to be necessary to install quick response sprinkler heads and accessories to accelerate the response time, because the heat-accumulating performance of sprinkler heads decreases in this application. Despite its low density of dwelling due to the automation process, clean room is characterized by an array of complex production equipment and working environment requiring dustproof clothes, which makes it difficult to acquire evacuation safety performance. Thus, thorough control of danger factors in processes and periodic education and training are required. It is also necessary to establish a level of domestic technologies equivalent to the level of standards of advanced countries in fire protection.

  • Recently, porous concrete has been used for the purpose of decreasing the load of earth environment. It consists solely of cement, water and uniform-sized coarse aggregate. And its fundamental properties will be considerably affected by the physical properties of aggregate because the aggregate occupies for the most part in its mix proportion. For such a reason, this study was carried out to investigate the influence of the sizes and kinds of aggregate for the fundamental properties of porous concrete. It showed that the fundamental properties of porous concrete were the similar value in all sizes of aggregate except in the case of using the 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate and were varied according to the kinds of aggregate. In particular, compressive strength of porous concrete using 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate was more higher than that using other aggregate, and its void ratio and coefficient of permeability was lower. And the maintenance capacity of permeability of porous concrete was varied by the sizes and the kinds of aggregate. In particular, it was greatly decreased in case of using the 2.5∼5㎜ aggregate. And unlike dynamic modulus of elasticity of ordinary concrete, that of porous concrete was very high value in early ages and was slowly increased after that time.

  • Scaled model tests were performed to evaluate the reinforcement effect of rock bolts in anisotropic rock mass. For this purpose, two tunnel cases were experimented which had different tunnel sizes, rock strengths, anisotropic angles and coefficients of lateral pressure. The fully grouted rock bolts of the D25 deformed bar were modeled as the basting pins with bead and were systematically installed at the roof and the side wall of the model tunnel. As results of the first case experimentations, the unsupported model showed initial crack at the roof of tunnel, but the supported model with rock bolts showed initial crack at the floor of tunnel where rock bolts were not installed. The crack initiating pressure and the maximum pressure of the supported model with rock bolts were 11% and 7% larger than those of the unsupported model, respectively. Moreover, the effect of the existing discontinuities in anisotropic rock mass on the fracture behavior of tunnel was reduced in the supported model, and so the reinforcement effect of rock bolt turned out to be experimentally verified. As results of the second case experimentations considering different support patterns, the crack initiating pressures of models were larger and the reduction ratios of tunnel area according to applied load were smaller as the length and the quantity of rock bolts were larger. Therefore, it was found that the performance of the rock bolts turned out to be improved as they were larger.

  • The north-west sea area of Cheju Island is where originate two layer current in the summer season. The case of the fishing operations in this sea area is almost impossible for normal expansion of the net gear for shooting net, and is happened to be frequent occasions for rise of tension suddenly in purseline by changes of the net shapes in the operation. Therefore, the safety of the operations is often obstructed by the above mentioned. In connection with the above, model experiments on the purse seine in the circulating water tank was carried out in comparison and analysis on the changes of tension in the pruseline by deformation of purse seine in the sea area of two layer current. THe results obtained are as follows; In the case of the required time for pursing of 20 minutes in the no current set, the increasing curve for tension of purseline can be expressed as:Y=0.0004x3+0.0098x2+0.3000x(r=0.9989)where Y is tension(metric tons) of a purseline, x is required time(minutes) for pursing. And, the maximum value of tension in this time was an increase of 31.3 percent at 15 minutes, and was a decrease of 30.3 percent at 30 minutes than that of 20 minutes. When the bottom margin of net is held on the position in velocity of 0.5 knot at three-eighths of net in the bottom current to the net height, the maximum tension of the required time for pursing of 30 minutes in tight set and loose set were decrease of 29.5 percent and 28.7 percent respectively than that of 20 minutes. The work load during the required time for pursing of 20 minutes were calculated 5.79×106 kgf·m in no current set, 7.89×106 kgf·m in tight set and 5.15×106 kgf·m in loose set, therefore it was an increase of 22.3 percent in tight set, and was a decrease of 11.1 percent in loose set than that of the no current set. Where tight set and loose set is a range of the bottom current with velocity of 0.5 knot at three-eighths of net to the net height.

  • The firing pin of modern automatic rifles detonates the primer of loaded ammunition via a hammer. During this process, the firing pin receives an impact load and repetitive force throughout the life of the rifle. An endurance test of a rifle showed that the firing pin breaks prematurely at 96.26% of life. Accordingly, a case study was conducted through cause analysis and a reconstruction test. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy of the broken surface of the firing pin showed that a crack began in the circumferential direction of the surface, resulting in a fatigue crack to the core after repeated impact. Crack growth and fatigue destruction occurred at the end due to the repetitive impact and was estimated using a notch. For verification, a sample that produced a 0.03mm circumferential notch was broken at 64.25% of life in the reconstruction test. A test of breakage according to the notch types showed that a 0.3mm and a 0.5mm one-side notch were broken at 66.53% and 50.76%, respectively, and a 0.03mm six-point notch was broken at 85.65%. The endurance life of a sample firing pin with a rough surface and tool mark was examined, but an approximately 381 ㎛ internal crack formed. Through this study, failure for each notch type was considered. These results show that quality control of the notch and surface roughness is essential for ensuring the reliability of a component subjected to repeated impact.
