  • In recent years, strengthening by steel plate, carbon fiber sheets, and carbon fiber laminate in spotlighted in order to repair and rehabilitation of R/C slabs. In this study, 3 method of rehabilitation are analyzed from the tests. Test parameters are the width of cracks, the method of repair and rehabilitation, the magnitude of pre-load. Deflection, failure load, strains of reinforcing bar, strains of sheet and plates are measured during tests. The failure mode and separption load analyzed from these measured data.

  • Stress tests were conducted in the carbody of the railroad car to check the structural strength of the body of the railroad car. The objective of this study was to evaluate safety of the carbody of a railroad car under the maximal strength. The carbody of rolling stock is a principal structure that supports major equipment of the underframe and the freight. Therefore, the strength evaluation of this structure is important. This study was carried out to analyze the structure of carbody and evaluate safety under maximum vertical load, compressive load, and torsional load. Accordingly, stress tests were conducted on the carbody to measure the stress on each of their parts. Before the load test, a structural-analysis program was used for the stress distribution analysis of the body structure.

  • This paper summarizes an experimental study on the seismic behavior of lower stories of a mid-rise reinforced concrete frame building. Two reinforced concrete frames with two stories and one span were tested and each frame represents lower two stories of an 11-story RC frame building. Both frames were designed in accordance with Japanese design guidelines and were identical except in the variation of axial force. The tests demonstrated that the overall load-displacement relations of the two frames were nearly the same and the first-story column shear was closely related to the column axial load. The columns and beams elongated during both of the tests, with the second-floor beam elongation exceeding 1.5% of the beam clear span length. The frame with higher axial loads developed more cracks that the frame under moderate axial load.

  • For temporary excavation support in private land area, the strand of ground anchor should be removed In order to get permission to install anchors. The extractable or removable-strand compression anchor system was developed and evaluated by a series of pull-out load tests. Anchor pull-out tests were performed on seven instrumented full-scale low-pressure grouted anchors installed in weathered soil at the Geotechnical Experimentation Site at Sungkyunkwan University, Four anchors are the compression type anchors and three are the tension anchors. Performance test, creep test, and long term relaxation test were performed and presented. Load distributor was developed in order to distribute large compressive stresses in grout.

  • Since micropiles were conceived in Italy in the early 1950s, which have been widely used for In-situ reinforcement, bearing pile or the concept of combination in the world-wide. The meaning of micropiles usually differs from that of a general deep foundation. Because the load capacity of it was mainly affected by skin friction. Also, it could be obtained the improvement effects of load capacity or ground's rigidity by the unitary behavior of ground and micropiles. In this study, The model tests were peformed on the dense sand where micropiles are set to the vertical direction. Strip footing was used in it. Steel bars of dia. 2 and 4㎜ were used in model tests of which the sand was attached on the surface, and the length of it was changed as 2B to 6B(where, B is width of strip footing) Through this process, the load capacity were analyzed from the test results in the relationship between load and displacement.

  • Anchors find their use in providing tie-back resistance for submerged footings, transmission towers, tunnels and ocean structures. Laboratory model teats were performed for the short-term net ultimate uplift capacity of a circular anchors with respect to various embedment depths and moisture content in saturated bentonite. The tests have been conducted with the anchor at two different moisture contents. Based an the model test results, empirical relationships between the net load, rate of strain, and time have been developed. Test results are as follows. 1) In creep tests for load versus ultimate uplift capacity, the displacement of plate anchors rapidly increases during the primary stage but thereafter becomes constant over a period of time. 2) Displacement increased with the increase of the sustain load and embedded ratio in soil. 3) If the load is less than or equal to 75% of the short-term ultimate uplift capacity, a complete pullout does not occur due to creep.

  • This paper presents results km a series of model tests oil vertically loaded single piles to compare the behaviors of H and pipe piles under the same ground condition. The aims of this paper were to compare the bearing capacity of H-pile md pipe piles under in the same ground condition and to estimate the effect of gravity acceleration and relative soil density. Relative density of soil were made to be 40%, 80% and embedded length of pile on sand was increased by 10, 12, 14, 16 times of the diameter of pile, respectively. As a results of test series, allowable load of H-pile is from 6.4% to 18.2% larger than allowable load of pipe pile in relative density 80% and from 9.1% to 39.4% larger than allowable load of pipe pile in relative density 40%. As a results of numerical analysis, we were predicted behaviour of stress-displacement of pile with model test. In the case of relative density 80% and 40%, bearing capacity of H pile represent from 17.74% to 18.6% larger than allowable load of pipe pile.

  • A series of fatigue tests have been performed on the non-load carrying fillet welded joints in order to quantitatively assess the fatigue characteristics due to the grindings and TIG(Tungsten Inert Gas) welding treatments. From the results of fatigue tests, it has been shown that the fatigue strengths at $2{\times}106$ load cycles were improved in the case of the grinding sand TIG welding treatments, and we could know that it is satisfying fatigue strength prescribed in fatigue design standard in general. Besides, from the results of fracture mechanics approaches, the geometric shape correction factors were the most dominant factors in the initial fatigue crack growth, but as the fatigue crack develops, the finite plate correction factor were became the most dominant factor, and the fatigue life on non-load carrying fillet welded joints could be relatively exactly estimated by using the relations between fatigue crack growth rate and stress intensity factor obtained from finite element analysis and existing proposed formulae.

  • In this study, the variations of transformed impact factors and load carrying capacity of highway bridges measured from the state of expansion joint are evaluated. the field loading tests were performed on the highway bridge with damaged expansion joint to investigate the variation of the load carrying capacity. From the field loading tests in case that damaged expansion joint exist or do not exist, the static displacements and dynamic displacements were measured, and TIF were calculated, respectively. dynamic test is performed in order to estimate dynamic displacement and TIF according to the level of damage of expansion joint. From the results of TIF, the load carrying capacity of highway bridges with damaged expansion joint were estimated.

  • Nail withdrawal tests were conducted on clear wood of domestic small diameter logs. Nails were driven into the cross and longitudinal sections of each specimen, then nail withdrawal tests were performed. Nail withdrawal loads are strongly dependent on the direction of nail positions. The average load values for the nail withdrawal both in cross section and longitudinal section are higher in high specific gravity (SG) wood of sawtooth oak (Quercus acutissima Carr.) than those in low SG wood of Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc.) and pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill.). The average ratio of the nail withdrawal loads for side-grain and end-grain are higher in the low SG wood than that in the high SG of wood. Both linear and non-linear regression analyses were conducted on nail withdrawal load with SG, good correlations were obtained between nail withdrawal load and SG.
