  • As the equipments with the fast load characteristics become popular, a onboard generator should satisfy the fast response characteristics. This paper describes the modeling, simulation and experiment of the homo-polar generator developed for the fast load. The simulation model of a homo-polar generator with input limiter is developed, and the optimal gain to improve the response characteristics can be determined by simulation and analysis. The improved bandwidth and stability of the developed generator with optimal gain are verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents a nontraditional laser power system in which an active compensated pulsed alternator (ACPA) drives a flashlamp directly without the use of capacitor groups. As a result, the volume of the laser system is decreased because of the high energy density of the ACPA. However, the difficulty in matching the output of the alternator with the laser flashlamp is a significant issue and needs to be well analyzed. In order to solve this problem, based on the theory for ACPA, the authors propose a simplified model for the system of ACPA with flashlamp load by the way of circuit simulation. The simulation results preliminarily illuminate how the performance of the ACPA laser power system is affected. Meanwhile, the simulation results can also supply a consultation for future ACPA laser power system design and control.

  • This paper describes a probabilistic annual congestion cost assessment of a grid at a composite power system derived from a model. This probabilistic congestion cost assessment simulation model includes capacity limitation and uncertainties of the generators and transmission lines. In this paper, the proposed probabilistic congestion cost assessment model is focused on an annualized simulation methodology for solving long-term grid expansion planning issues. It emphasizes the questions of "how should the uncertainties of system elements (generators, lines and transformers, etc.) be considered for annual congestion cost assessment from the macro economic view point"? This simulation methodology comes essentially from a probabilistic production cost simulation model of composite power systems. This type of model comes from a nodal equivalent load duration curve based on a new effective load model at load points. The characteristics and effectiveness of this new simulation model are illustrated by several case studies of a test system.

  • As office automation appliances and communication equipments are adopted in office buildings, internal heat gains increase gradually. When making simulation model, internal heat gains are usually set up with standard values or ignored. Therefore, the impact of the internal heat gains has been ignored or not been focused although it is recognised as significant contributor to heating/cooling load of buildings. This study focused on the impact of internal heat gains on curtain wall buildings. the amount and schedules of heat internal gains profiles not only affect the profiles of heating/cooling loads, but also make impact on reducing the effectiveness of high performance glazing systems. It is important to identify internal heat gains profiles before considering the installation of high performance glazing systems.

  • The benefits of thermal stratification in sensible heat storage systems has been considered and studying by several investigators. In this paper, the basic data which is hard to obtain normally through the experiment were obtainable through the computer simulation. The major objectives of the study were to assess the benefits of stratified storage in residential solar water heating application and to suggest the optimum design parameters. From the computer simulation, following results were obtained. 1. The solar load fraction increases with increasing the number of tank segments. In these simulation, the magnitude of the improvement was about 10%. 2. The solar load fraction increases when the ratio of diameter to height of the tank(H/D) increases to 3, but H/D exceed 3 then, the solar load fraction decreases. In these simulation, the magnitude of the improvement was about 3%. 3. Increasing the collector flow rate slightly improved the performance of the mixed storage system(Node=1). But, for the stratified storage system(Node=N), the solar load fraction increases with decreasing flow rate until the point is reached at which the collector outlet temperature reaches the boiloff limit of $100^{\circ}C$ over some portion of the simulation period.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effects of the virtual reality simulation for malocclusion examination for dental education. A 4-step modeling procedure was applied to develop a tooth model with a realistic level in order to be held and observed in detail. Eighty-six participants used HMDs to examine the developed virtual dental simulation to identify their perception according to expertise levels. The independent variable, expertise group, included three levels: 29 juniors, 29 seniors, and 28 dentists, respectively. The dependent variables, that were task-load and usability, were measured through two cases. Results showed that the junior group perceived a higher level of mental demands and embarrassment than the dentist group. It indicated that the perceived task load varies according to the expertise levels in the simulation task. However, the senior group perceived a higher level of ease of use than the dentist group. This study presented the implications for the development of virtual reality simulation in detail.

  • Repetitive Load Prediction is proposed for the UPS inverter application of the second order deadbeat controller which is robust against the calculation time delay and the parameter variation and which gets fast response against the load variation. The proposed technique predicts the load current ahead of two sampling time using that the load current is periodic. This is effective under nonlinear load condition. The proposed technique is derived theoretically and verified through simulation and experimental result.

  • The industrial power system has the radial plant distribution system and domestic generators to supply the essential loads. When the system is isolated from the utility tie line, the system frequency drops resulting in the trip of generators. The load shedding scheme shall be properly designed to secure the essential load. In this paper two kinds of load shedding schemes, those are, the Fast Act Load Shedding(FALS) and Under Frequency Load Shedding(UFLS) are simulated and compared taking an example of petrochemical gas separation plant.

  • In this study, an analysis technique using simple beam model for predicting structure crashworthiness of the passenger car side impacted with an angle by another passenger car was investigated. The simple model was composed of major beam-like side structure which carry almost all side impact load. A procedure of component collapse test, calculation of load carrying capability and dynamic simulation was carryed out sequentially. Transient dynamic algorithms and a computer program to simulate deformations and motions of the impacted car was developed. The developed procedure was applied to a 3 door passenger car side impacted with an angle of 75 degree and the analysis results show good agreements with the actual test results.

  • Recently, low energy houses have become an essential issue globally and various subsidy programs are ongoing to penetrate. All-electric houses which are another type of low energy houses or zero carbon houses are being developed. These houses consider new & renewable energy and demand side management programs in the construction and the diffusion process because these programs are essential policies to use energy resources reasonably. This paper shows a simulation methodology to control home appliances in all-electric houses considering the electricity consumption pattern of residents. The simulation is a first step to estimate energy saving of the house in a practical manner.
