The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of allergic diseases associated with the housing environment and the psychological attitude of residents towards relevant risk factors. This study surveyed 1,200 people. In the first round, 200 participants were questioned through direct survey methods, while 1,000 participants filled out an online survey in the second round. Selected study subjects consisted of allergic diseases known to be closely related to housing environment factors. With advice from medical experts, the analysis included the examination of the prevalence status regarding five types of allergy-related diseases-allergic conjunctivitis, allergic rhinitis, allergic dermatitis, asthma and headache-with the range of disease incidence set within the past ten years. The survey was conducted on all age groups except those nine years old and younger, and the findings are as follows. Allergic diseases were found to be more prevalent among women than men. Residents identified effective methods for the alleviation and treatment of allergic diseases as ventilation, use of environmentally-friendly finishing materials, maintenance of a clean living space through cleaning or washing, and sunlight exposure. Residents' understanding of allergic diseases varied depending on their experience with such diseases and residential characteristics.

The purpose of this study was to scrutinize the current tendency of Universal Design. The analysis unit was presentation in the proceeding of "The first International Universal Design Conference" which was held at New York in June, 1998. Sixty the presentations in the conference were analyzed using Content Analysis technique. The analysis criteria were academic vs. practical, themes, subjects, levels of UD concepts, design principles applied, and type of disability. The results were as follows. Compared with its early characteristics such as practical approach, architectural living environment, barrier free for the disabled, especially for person with mobile disability using wheelchair, and the emphasis of accessibility, UD characteristics shown in the conference evidenced a dramatic shift from them toward the new century : Its subjects became a wide range of people including the disabled departing from 'the disabled' only; The range of disability was expanded to include visual and audial disability departing from mobility only; Themes appeared very diverse such as both small and large scale environments, products, dissemination, and theory from the 'architectural environment'; Various design principles were added to early accessibility ; Commercialism was added to early Welfarism. Therefore, this conference provided empirical evidence that UD changed considerably from its early development in many aspects. It indicated the potential of UD as a big wave in the 21st century design.
A The purpose of this study is to analyze the locational characteristics of the traditional market. In Seoul, small Conventional markets are directly connected with the living of citizens and becoming an important role for organization of the urban functions in the residential area. For this study, 32 Traditional Markets located on Seongbuk, Kangbuk and Dobong-Gu, were analyzed based on GIS, and within 500m related areas of market were categorized and researched by the level of urban infrastructure state. The contents of this study are composed of following three topics, partially theoretical review, general consideration and case studies. The study found that there is in need of improving urban infrastructure in conventional market areas, which has been identified during the research of urban infrastructure. Also, the study shows that it is necessary to develop comprehensive plans by timing and phase in order to improve commercial environment of the areas related while providing essential urban infrastructure. In addition, from the perspective of conventional market regeneration policy, physical conditions of the areas concerned should be focused on the perspective of developing plans and urban infrastructure elements.
Recently, the proportion of single-person households is on the increase in Korea, expected to reach 34.6% in 2035. Among the single-person households, Young single family households are facing greater difficulties due to high house prices in Korea. The government is expanding its support to Young single family, executing various policies such as public lease housings, private lease housings for youth, youth dormitory, etc. The purpose of this study is to understand the exact housing requirement of Young single family households who have different lifestyles with other age groups and provide base line data for youth house planning which will be in use later on. Study methods are shown below. First, this research studied the status and characteristics of Young single family households by looking into literature. Second, by studying previous studies concerned with life style and housing preferences of youth, the tool for investigating preferences and needs of housing environment by Young single family households was composed. Third, survey on characterstics of space usage, preferences and needs on flat composition, and preferences of interior design were conducted based on lifestyle of Young single family-households. The survey was conducted as an online survey using SNS for 150 Young single family holds from the age of 20 and 39, including students and office workers from December 2018 to January 2019. The results are as following. (1) Looking into the space usage characteristics, considering that various activities other than basic functions take place in bedroom and living room of small-sized Young single family households, we need to consider this additionally when planning the housing. (2) Looking into the preferences and composite needs of flat composition, the subjects demand separate bed room and more living room space, and also demand expansion of living room space where various activities take place and additional storage such as dress room in bed room (3) The preferences toward interior design show preferences toward modern style and achromatic color, a representative color. The subjects also prefer floor finishing materials normally used for living spaces, and indirect, soft lighting that uses wall. Also, there are differences between interior design preferences between students (20's) and office workers(30's) due to their different lifestyles. Research is needed to propose practical residential environment requirements and plans through a case study of actual public rental housing and a wider range of users.

The final aim of this study was to propose guidelines for the indoor environment of apartment remodeling projects. The first task of this study was to understand the major elements and the actual condition of the remodeling for apartment unit by carrying out in-depth interviews on residents and specialists. The open-access interviews were conducted with interior designers who have a wide experience of apartment remodeling and residents who live in recently remodeled apartment units. The second task was to evaluate the actual condition of the indoor environment and to analyze the main factors that affect the indoor environment in remodeled apartment units. Field measurements were carried out in twenty apartment units occupied after remodeling, recording indoor environment elements (indoor temperature, globe temperature, relative humidity, $CO_2$, CO, PM10, TVOC, HCHO, illumination, and equivalent noise level). Moreover, resident interviews and researcher observations were carried out to determine the contents of the remodeled unit and to investigate the architectural and living factors(like ventilation characteristics, etc.) related to the indoor environment. The results are as follows. The remodeling elements generally included the changing of lighting fixtures and finishing materials in all the spaces, the integration of the balcony into the children's room, the installation of furniture in the kitchen and the entrance, the changing storage furnitures and equipments in the bathroom. The average levels of each unit of relative humidity, $CO_2$, TVOC, HCHO, equivalent noise level, and illumination were proved to be on the whole in inadequate condition. The factors that affect these indoor elements were classified as remodeling factors (remodeling amounts, extent balcony integration, and lighting fixture exchange), ventilation characteristics, and living factors. According to these results, this research proposed the guidelines for the indoor environment in apartment remodeling projects.
The purpose of this study was to carry out POE of assisted living housing and suggest the design guidelines for the housing complex for the elderly. The subjects were residents(old persons) and staff who lived or worked in three assisted living housing in Cincinnati, Ohio. Interview and survey method using questionnaire were used. The design guidelines for the housing for the elderly were suggested as follows: 1) the location of the housing for the elderly should be in or near the existing housing area, 2) the arrangement of spaces of the housing for the elderly should consist of small groupings rather than large and long corridor pattern, 3) the number of the housing units for the elderly should be small, under 100 units, 4) the housing units should be used by one older persons so that she/he could have the chance of privacy and personalization, 5) various common spaces such as art and craft room or game room should be provided, 6) accessibility should be considered, 7) the color and patterns of interior finishes should be differentiated according to floors or spaces and familiar ones should be used to make a homelike environment.
As fast-speed of aging in modern society has led to increased concern for aging and health improvement of senior citizens, desire about having healthy living-environment has also increased. Living space for senior citizens has to play role of healing for their body feature as well as decrease in mental and psychological function. Color, as important factor that supplements degenerated sense and coping ability caused by aging, it has been revealed through modern medical science that color is effective for making nervous or calming down when it is delivered to one's nerve through sight. The purpose of this study is to suggest basic resource for color arrangement palette of living space and application method by color therapy to improve seniors' mental health by considering psychological and physical features caused by aging. First, consider psychological and physical feature of seniors and color therapy effect through previous research. The use of environmentally friendly finishing materials allows us to create a space where we can feel nature and to have stability and peace in the city center. In this paper, we examined the sensitivity of people to the three café spaces where wooden finishing materials are used in the space elements that change according to people's demands for environmentally friendly space due to pollution of living environment. First, we examined the wood and finishing materials and emotional vocabulary through literature review and previous research. Second, the values of L *, a *, b* and sR, sG and sB values were extracted by using a line spectrophotometer (Ci6X). Third, we conducted a 7 - point scale questionnaire based on the extracted 13 pairs of emotional vocabulary. Using SPSS 21, frequency analysis by descriptive statistics, crossover analysis by visiting purpose and intention, and emotional lexical factor analysis were performed. Through the study, the following points were found. First, CB (The Coffee Bean), SB (Starbucks) and HS (Hollys Coffee) showed differences in CB (65%), SB (40%) and HS (37%) in the spatial analysis. Second, CB gave color similar to the color of wall and furniture wood, but HS changed the color or brightness of wood finishing color of furniture. HS or SB showed favorable use of wood color scheme. Third, SB (26.3%) and HS (19.7%) were selected by taste. Fourth, there were differences in the items of CB, 'local-exotic' and SB 'dark-bright' in the factor value. The use of wood finishing materials differed in the atmosphere evaluation depending on the spatial factors and the color of the furniture. However, in this study, there are many factors that are insufficient in the accuracy of the ratio of the applied wood finishing material to the space element and the amount of the survey. If we further study the evaluation of emotional image according to the ratio of wood finishing materials, we think that it is necessary to study now that interest in environmentally friendly is increasing.
