  • The purpose of this study is to examine the remodeling behavior on the apartment built in furniture. The data were collected from 363 residents in Seoul area, living in apartments equipped with built-in furnitures. The major findings are as follows; 1)It was found out that 62-75% of those surveyed did not remodel their built-in furniture and 25-39% remodeled it. The major reasons for remodeling are the inconvenience in storing household items, lack of storage space and dissatisfaction of the design and color. 2)More than 80% of the apartment residents surveyed recognizes the necessity of the built-in furnitures, which were equipped already, in living room, kitchen, bathroom and the entrance area. A strong need is also indicated for the additional built-in furnitures in each bedroom, multi-service room and veranda. 3) This survey also indicated that 63-73% shows no intention of remodeling their built-in furnitures. On the other hand, 27-37% of those surveyed indicates their desire and plan to remodel them.

  • Today's consumers have the behavior of purchasing that is self-value-centered and distinctly goal-conscious. Because of this trend the new shops that sell well have the characteristics that effectely transfers strong store-image. The starting point of selling is showing. To appeal to the sense of more consumers and to facilitate the act of consumption you should express more surely store and image of merchandise in the limited space of sales room. Especially in the compound living goods store which sell various items of products the role of presenting the whole merchandises attractive and organized is of utmost importance and the interior planning of show rooms and displaying the room according to the actual sales. According to this the goal of this study is to create not only the convenience of purchasing but also distinguished store image through organizing show rooms according to themes as a part of VMD strategy.

  • A color is the most important of all factors that have influence on interior spaces, and plays an visually and psychologically important role in making interior environment. Thus, the aim of this study is to propose predictable color models by image types specially for color design in living room. This study was composed of three steps, and was carried out as follows.1) The evaluation experiment was carried out by color simulation using Color Image Processor. 2) Image types were extracted by factor analysis. 3) The characteristics of colors by image types were analysed by the multi regression and as a result the predictable color models by image types was determined.

  • A pilot study on indoor air concentrations of nitrogen dioxide $(NO_2)$ was undertaken in the Seoul area, Korea dudring February-April 1986. Indoor and outdoor data on nitrogen dioxide concentrations were obtained for 48 private residences. Personal exposure to $NO_2$ was also investigated. Indoor outdoor ratio of $NO_2$ concentrations was 0.87, while the correlations between the indoor and outdoor levels were less than 0.50 for $NO_2$. Homes with an unvented space heater had average living room $NO_2$ concentrations approximately double those with a vented space heater. Residences with smokers have significantly higher living room $NO_2$ levels than those without smokers.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristic of the thermal environment at a living room by the heating system(floor radiation heating, forced convection heating, combined heating, radiation convection heating), and to compares the change of the thermal environment after operating the heating with after the operation stopped based on the floor radiation heating. This study proposes the basic data for the design and the development of the thermal storage structure heating system which not only utilizes fully the characteristic of the comfortable thermal environment but also reduces the preheating period and be able to use the off-peak electricity.

  • Indoor carbon monoxide (CO) concentration and personal CO exposures were measured Asan where CO poisoning from twenty coal usage briquette as a domestic fuel to cook and space heating. Twenty-five were houses selected from the Asan area for the survey conducted in February 1997. Newly developed passive CO samplers were placed in the kitchen and living room for the indoor concentration measurement and were worn by homemakers for personal exposure monitoring. The daily average of indoor CO concentration was 16ppm in the kitchen and 10ppm in the living room. The indoor concentration and personal exposures to CO were different in types of the space heating system. House ventilating methods and socioeconomic conditions were also important factors in determining the indoor and personal CO level in Asan.

  • Indoor radon concentrations were measured using Track-Etch detectors in four (Seoul., Songtan, Dogo, Kunsan) different geological areas in Korea during December 1988 - April 1989. Measurements involving 75 hdmes were made in different rooms of each home. The mean concentrations of indoor radon in the homes by area varied from 2.70 - 3.22 pCi/l. Indoor radon concentrations in rural areas were higher than the corresponding levels in urban areas. The mean radon concentrations in the basements were about 1.3 times higher than those levels measured in the first floor. The mean radon concentrations in the kitchen and bedroom were and 2.86 pCi/l 2.43 pCi/l, respectively, while the living room radon concentrations were 2.61 pCi/l. Energy-efficient homes have a living room level that is on the average 1.4 times higher than normally insulated conventional homes. Approximately 13% of the study homes exceeded 4 pCi/l of radon levels of the U.S. EPA's recommended limit. From these results, radon levels in the homes seemed to correlate strongly with house location relative to geologic formation.

  • Household energy consumption had influenced on the ecological system's environment. Household's exceeding energy consumption requires the development of resources and the risk. Thus this study attempted to find the household heating management, The purpose of this study was to investigate the household's heating management in the area of district heating. The major finding were; 1) The district heating was accepted positively and the benefit of this system was utilized very well in the household. 2) Variances in heating energy consumption was explained by the family size at October, residential period at October and November and the temperature of living room at October, November and December. 3) Compaired to central heating apartment, the low heating expenditure was characterize in the household of 4-5 persons, nuclear family at October, moderated heating control, using extra heating facilities at November. An in the December, that household was that husband has graduated college, temperature of the living room was some cold, and house wives was the full-time homemaker.

  • As with the disappearance of a living room window due to the trend in apartment housing construction that prefers a larger, expanded living room, the sound insulation performance of the balcony window is becoming an important factor to determine the level of indoor noise at an apartment unit. Considering that the indoor noise inside an apartment unit is mandated by law at or below 45dB(A), the balcony window is increasingly assuming an even more important role. Sound insulation performance of the window was measured by examining differences in data involving varying angles of incidence of the sound source as obtained from the same balcony window. Also, acoustic intensity measuring was performed at and around the window to determine its sound insulation quality. Results of measuring on the sound source's angles of incidence indicated that the performance showed some differences in lower frequency ranges, though with no significance. Intensity measuring results showed that the sound insulation performance was reduced near the connection part of the window and the window frame.

The functions of dwelling space were grasped on the basis of dwelling - behavior tenitories. The possession of furniture was surveyed In 144 units of apartment house. Observation with questionnaire was carried out through pilot and main survey. 1) The dwelling - behavior territories of Anbang, Living Room and D.K. each were classified into 4 kinds. These territories were assorted into two categories ; first, the similar territories were integrated and specific various territories formatted, second, new kind dwelling spaces were required2) Accordingly, Anbang have to be re - setted up Anbang and storage, Living Room and D.K. re - setted up L.D.K. and Utility. In this way, it coudld be possible, that creative reasonable space were formated for more satisfactory. Therefore relationships between furniture possession and the usage of dwelling spaces wre identified.
