The Characteristics of Color on Korean Costume by Basic Culture (기층문화를 통한 한국복식의 색채 특성 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine a unique characteristic of the colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture in the aim of seeking the characteristics and the conceptual meanings of colors found in the majority’s culture. The scope of the basic culture was divided into folk belief, folk game and folk play. Within these limits, the colors of the dress, accessories, instruments were extracted by comparing with the naked eye in NCS Color System. For the analysis of hue and tone, the secondary dimensional analysis using NCS color system and the three-dimensional analysis using the software, COLOR 3D Version 2.0, were done. The result of this investigation is that the colors of the costume in the Korean basic culture are white, gray and black of achromatic color and yellow, yellowish red and purplish blue. This confirms that the colors based on Five-elements color are becoming the basis too basic culture. And Arche-pattern, which is a characteristic commonly found in the Korean traditional society, was shown as a characteristic of color. The colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture are uniquely adopted by the Korean civilians according to their religious and philosophical living standard. This study is meaningful in seeking a root for the formation of their unique color culture.

Attribution of Contemporary Popular Culture through Products Design (제품디자인에 나타난 현대 대중문화의 속성)

  • Comtemporary popular culture fosters information exchanges through the development of digital products. Digital products may lead, or may be led, by outline popular culture. However, popular culture is possible off-line as well. There are certainly diverse classes of people who use digital products; however, the major users are those who mainly use the networks. These users have ample access to information and thereby lead popular culture and also are led by it. Surely, it is not only the popular culture that digital products take into consideration. In modern times, personal computers and the Internet are changing into privately owned digital products. Amid the collective tendency of popular culture, the owned products emphasize the fact that it is ′mine only.′It would be goad if ′interesting′materials, something that teenagers like, are added to digital products. Surely, there is a limit to ′interesting′ materials, but the materials of "S or energy," which has a certain sense of humor as well as giving out fresh energy, can be considered in digital product esign. It can be considered a modern pattern, or at least the addition of a new value, and not the old-time pattern of the "Ten Long-Living Animals." More popular and diverse colors are needed in the mix of digital products used by adults who are middle-aged or elderly. If altered colors are applied to the digital products as much as popular culture changes, it can assist the elderly with their weakened physical abilities.

  • Lead is an environmental toxicant that causes a marked deficit in cognative development in infants and children. Damage to the hippocampus has been linked to the lead-induced deficit in the learning process. The present study examined the effects of lead on the development of hippocampal neurons in vitro. Hippocampal neurons were incubated with various concentrations in lead acetate (1nM to 30 nM) for 72 hrs from 4 h after plating, and the percentage of living neurons bearing neurites, neurite outgrowth and migration of multipolar neurons in culture were determined.

The Effect of Marine Sports Experiences and Activities on Sociality and Organization Culture (해양스포츠 체험 및 활동이 사회성과 조직문화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this research is to clarify the influence and difference of the marine sports experiences and activities on the sociality and organization culture and to analyze the relationship between sociality and organization culture according to the experience and activities of the marine sports to suggest the basis for the development for those who experience the marine sports experiences and activities in their sociality and organization culture. To achieve this, teenagers and adults living in Busan and Gyeongnam as of March, 2013 are surveyed and 428 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS/PC Windows Ver18.0. The conclusions of this study are as follows. Firstly, in terms of gender, the men show higher levels in the difference of the sociality and organization culture and in terms of age, the difference is found. Secondly, in terms of sociality according to the marine sports experience and activities, those who experience them show higher levels. Thirdly, in terms of the influence of sociality on organization culture according to the marine sports experience and activities, activities and sociality give positive influence to organization culture in case of experienced people.

A Basic Study on the Culture of College Life for International College Students (외국인 학부생 대상 대학 생활 문화 교육을 위한 기초 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the perception and educational needs of international college students regarding the culture of college life. A questionnaire was given to international college students who are studying at universities in Korea. The results showed that international college students need to study about the culture of college life and had a perception that it is desirable to learn this through general education classes or freshman subjects after entering university. Also, the culture of college life can be divided into nine categories: bachelor's system; career and employment; university support centers and systems; interpersonal relations; departmental events; housing and living expenses; freshmen's events; exchange activities and programs; and cultural experience activities. International college students showed higher learning needs in order of career and employment; cultural experience activity; and bachelor's system. In addition, the characteristics of the learners showed different educational needs according to year of study and Korean language proficiency. The significance of this study is to specify the items of the culture of college life required for international college students, to measure the validity and reliability of these items, and to categorize the elements of the culture of college life.

Teaching Korean Living through the Method of Currere (쿠레레(Currere) 방법을 활용한 한국의 실생활문화 교육방안)

  • This paper aims to propose teaching plans based on individual learner's experience and from a cross-cultural viewpoint by applying Currere as a method of Korean life-culture education. Current Korean culture education programs are not systematic, and are being executed without differentiation from language education. Thus, this study proposes Korean life-culture teaching plans based on the method of Currere. We suggested Currere teaching-learning stages and strategies for Korean language learners by adapting Pinar's and Jeong Seong-a's method of Currere. The Currere teaching-learning stages consisted of introduction, regression, progression, theme analysis, data analysis, group discussion, and integration. Although the method of Currere is implemented through autobiographic writing, this study added the strategies of 'personal experience telling' and 'schema utilization and background knowledge provision'. In order to enhance the applicability of Currere to Korean life-culture education, we suggested teaching plans for the theme of "How to dispose rubbish" as an example. We suggested detailed teaching plans that teachers can apply in the actual classroom. We expect that these teaching plans may be applied to actual classes so that Korean culture education may not be limited to the acquisition of knowledge, but be linked to their real life.

A Bio-Inspired Cell-Microsystem to Manipulate and Detect Living Cells

  • In this study, we demonstrate for the first time a bio-inspired Cell-Microsystem to manipulate and detect living cells. Cultured retinal pigment epithelial cell line (ARPE-19) was directed to grow in a pre-defined Cell-Microsystem. The three-dimensional micropillars of 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in height and diameter of the Cell-Microsystem were fabricated. Inhibited DNA synthesis and transformed cell morphology were observed throughout the culture period. The demonstration of manipulating and detecting living cells by the surface topography is a new approach, and it will be very useful for the future design of cell-based biosensors and bioactuators.

A Study on the Vernacular landscape Pattern of Nagan Walled Town(낙안읍성) in Suncheon

  • Nagan walled town is located on an axis connecting symbolic places, which is a lucky place from the Fengshui point of view because a mountain sits to the rear and a body of water sits to the front. It represents the environmental development of cultural space by blending folk belief, religion, social systems, adminstration facilities and living culture buildings. Therefore, it has a sustainable cultural view connected with a formed or formless religious view and an artificial view (walls, government buildings, living houses, cultivated lands, etc.) in a natural landscape. Environmental design techniques, enlarging the meaning and value of living on a mental level, can be found in the arrangement of space composition and settlement of Nagan walled town. The organised spaces of government and residential areas were constructed within the wall with the view of searching for lucky places (from best, better and good places) in order to construct ecological networks according to the outlooks of space and settlement.

  • Participant observations, in-depth interviews, and analyses of documents were used for collecting data. Children separated from their parents were living with grandparents because their parents were working abroad. Results included socio-cultural and psycho-social factors. (1) The socio-cultural grounded factors or the common characteristics of young children's family life in both living circumstances included early childhood academic achievement orientation, demands of responsibility and obedience, limited opportunity for social development, and societal phenomenadeveloping wide family concept affected by China's Confucianism and Korean-Chinese social culture. (2) Psycho-social grounded factors included the present care-givers' perceptions of the child's agency and their beliefs in the importance of play and friendship. This affected interactions between child and care-giversand child's self-esteem and friendships.
