The minimum thickness of long-span deck slab is proposed by checking the limit state according to the Korean highway bridge design code(limit state design). Both minimizing thickness and ensuring safety of deck slab are important design factors to increase a competitive price of the long span deck slabs. The required thicknesses for satisfying flexural capacity, preventing punching shear failure and limiting deflection were calculated by considering KL-510 load model which has increased total load compared to DB 24 from 432 kN to 510 kN. The results of the required thickness for various limit states were compared to propose the minimum thickness as a function of span length of deck slabs. The proposed minimum thickness is influenced by satisfying flexural capacity and limiting deflection. It turns out to be similar compared to the results of the previous study by ultimate strength design method even if the live load model was increased in total weights.
The safety level of a structural system designed per code specifications can not be inferred directly from the reliability of members due to the load redistribution and nonlinear inelastic structural behavior. Comparison of the system and member reliability, which is scarce in the literature, is likely to indicate any possible inconsistency of design codes in providing safe and economical designs. Such a comparative study is presented in this study for moment resisting two-dimensional steel frames designed per AISC LRFD Specifications. The member reliability is evaluated using the resistance of the beam-column element and the elastic load effects that indirectly accounts for the second-order effects. The system reliability analysis is evaluated based on the collapse load factor obtained from a second-order inelastic analysis. Comparison of the system and member reliability is presented for several steel frames. Results suggest that the failure probability of the system is about one order of magnitude lower than that of the most critically loaded structural member, and that the difference between the system and member reliability depends on the structural configuration, degree of redundancy, and dead to live load ratio. Results also suggest that the system reliability is less sensitive to initial imperfections of the structure than the member reliability. Therefore, the system aspect should be incorporated in future design codes in order to achieve more reliability consistent designs.
The depth of superstructure is the summation of the height of girders and the thickness of the deck floor. In this study, it is aim to determine the maximum span length of girders and minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge. For this purpose the superstructure of the bridge with the width of 10m and the thickness of the deck floor of 0.175m, which the girders length was changed by two meter increments between 15m and 35m, was taken into account. Twelve different girders with heights of 60, 75, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170 and 180 cm, which are frequently used in Turkey, were chosen as girder type. The analyses of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I girder bridge was conducted with I-CAD software. In the analyses AASHTO LRFD (2012) conditions were taken into account a great extent. The dead loads of the structural and non-structural elements forming the bridge superstructure, prestressing force, standard truck load, equivalent lane load and pedestrian load were taken into consideration. HL93, design truck of AASHTO and also H30S24 design truck of Turkish Code were selected as vehicular live load. The allowable concrete stress limit, the number of prestressed strands, the number of debonded strands and the deflection parameters obtained from analyses were compared with the limit values found in AASHTO LRFD (2012) to determine the suitability of the girders. At the end of the study maximum span length of girders and equation using for calculation for minimum depth of the superstructure of prestressed concrete I-girder bridge were proposed.

In the design of bridges, exact evaluation of traffic loading is very important for the safety and maintenance of bridges. In general, traffic loading is represented by live load (including impact load) and fatigue load. For exact evaluation of traffic loading, it is important to get reliable and comprehensive truck data including the traffic and weight information. It requires the development of Bridge Weigh-In-Motion (BWIM), which measures the truck weights without stopping the traffic. Objectives of the study is (1) to develop the BWIM system, (2) to verified the system in bridges in Highways.

Load Resistance Factor Design method is used increasingly in geotechnical design world widely and resistance factors for drilled shafts are suggested by AASHTO. However, these resistance factors are determined for intact rock conditions, by comparison most of bedrocks in Korea are weathered condition, so that applying the AASHTO resistance factors is not reasonable. Thus, this study suggests the proper resistance factors for design of drilled shaft in Korea. The 22 cases of pile load test data from 8 sites were chosen and reliability-based approach is used to analyze the data. Reliability analysis was performed by First Order Second Moment Method (FOSM) applying 4 bearing capacity equations. As a result, when the Factor of Safety(FOS) were selected as 3.0, the target reliability index($\beta_c$) were evaluated about 2.01~2.30. Resistance factors and load factors are determined from optimization based on above results. The resistance factors ranged between 0.48 and 0.56 and load factor for dead load and live load are evaluated approximately 1.25 and 1.75 respectively. However, when the target reliability are considered as 3.0, the resistance factors are evaluated as approximately 50% of results when the target reliability index were 2.0.

The objective of the paper is to present the results of analytical and experimental studies dealing with dynamic load for continuous steel girder bridges due to normal truck traffic. Various bridge design codes specify dynamic load factor (defined as a fraction of static portion of live load) for short span structures at the level of about 0.3. However, there are not definite values specified for continuous brigdes. Therefore, it is an usual practice to use the code specified dynamic load factors for simple span bridges to continuous bridges without clear background. The field measurement results indicate that the actual dynamic load factors are less than 0.2 for a single truck, and less than 0.05 for two trucks side-by-side, regardless of positive and negative moment region.

An ultra-high strength prestressed prismatic beam of 100 MPa in compressive strength was developed by increasing the water-tightness of concrete by utilizing centrifugal molding processes without adding expensive admixtures. The centrifugal prismatic PSC beam developed as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel was constructed on a rahmen bridge in a small local river. In this study, the centrifugal prismatic beam was compared and analyzed based on the results of measurements made through static load tests and the results of numerical analysis of the target structure. The common load-carrying capacity and safety of the rahmen bridge were evaluated. The static·dynamic load tests and finite element analysis results of this bridge were similar, and it was confirmed that the behavior of the centrifugal prismatic beam was well simulated. All centrifugally formed square beams that make up the composite rahmen bridge were evaluated to secure sufficient load carrying capacity under the design live load, and structural reliability was proven by ensuring safety.

Rail carrying structures in international routes as well as domestic ones shall be designed to carry HL(High Speed Railway live Load) loads, The loads shall be placed in the most unfavourable position for the part of the structure in question. In general, influence lines may be used to determine the maximum bending moments and maximum shear forces in the reinforced concrete rahmen bridge structures. In this study, based on the finite element analysis, equivalent distributed loads of HL loading for design of the rahmen bridges are deterimined.

Flexural-torsional behaviors of the typical architectural precast beam sections - inverted tee and rectangular - were compared. The inverted-tee beams were designed with a parking live load - 500kgf/$\textrm{m}^2$ and a market-1,200kgf/$\textrm{m}^2$ according to the currently used typical shape in the domestic market building site. The rectangular beams were also designed as the same bottom dimension and area, and reinforced for similar strength as in the cases of inverted tee beams. Two rectangular and two inverted precast pretensioned concrete beams were tested and analyzed

Test methods by hydraulic oil or vehicular live load have been used for structural evaluation of prototype bridge. However it has been reported that the use of hydraulic jack has some disadvantages for the view of safety and economy, and the complete structural evaluation through each loading state can not be accomplished blocks is presented to overcome those demerits. To verify the application and safely of the use of concrete weight blocks during each loading state, it is applied to prototype deteriorated bridge. As a result, it could be evaluated the structural behavior completely using the concrete weight blocks
