  • As data becomes more important, data literacy has recently emerged as an significant term. The purpose of this study is to design data literacy model based on digital humanities. To attain this end, data literacy model was designed by combining the main contents derived from the digital humanities education program with specific capabilities extracted from research related to data literacy. By applying the data literacy model, which is the result of this study, it will be applicable to the data literacy courses in universities, and I would like to propose a follow-up study to evaluate the effectiveness of data literacy in the future.

  • This study aims to investigate the current state of digital literacy education in Korean public libraries and suggest improvements. The education programs were analyzed, which are offered in the National Library of Korea and related social and educational institutions, in order to explore the digital literacy education program required for public libraries. An interview was conducted with 38 librarians of the regional central libraries. Respondents reported that a cooperative program for digital literacy education with national library is essential, due to the lack of the budget and digital literacy resources. Based on the analysis, a model of the National Digital Library Information Literacy Education and the cooperative programs for digital literacy education were proposed.

  • Purpose: In these days, the concept of health literacy becomes important because it is essential to have a clear grasp of patients' basic ability to understand health-care information. Therefore, we intended to discover attributes, antecedents and consequences of health literacy through contextual analysis. Method: Following Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis, we did a literary review. The databases KMBase, KoreaMed, Kstudy, NDSL, and RISS were searched for articles. Among published literature about health literacy, twenty articles which satisfied the inclusion criteria were chosen. Results: Health literacy consists of three attributes: information seeking, information understanding, and information utilizing. Furthermore antecedents are as follows: health status, health belief, socioeconomic status, and information quality. Finally, we were able to explain the consequences of health literacy by showing improvement of self-care and interaction, and a decrease of social costs. Conclusion: We expect this study to guide the direction of future studies, and as a concept analysis that examines the conceptual attributes in the context of health literacy. Based on the result of this study, the design of a standardized tool and the program of health literacy promotion education need to be developed.

  • Purpose: This descriptive correlational study examined the acculturation, health literacy, and factors affecting the health literacy of Vietnamese and Chinese female marriage immigrants. Methods: The sample consisted of 90 Vietnamese and 89 Chinese female marriage immigrants who participated in Multicultural Family Support Centers' programs in metropolitan city A. The health literacy was measured by HLI-FMI (Health Literacy Index for Female Marriage Immigrants), acculturation was measured using the Acculturation Index for female marriage immigrants. Descriptive statistics, t-test, Chi-square, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression were performed for data analysis. Results: The Chinese group (M=9.80±2.72) showed a significantly higher health literacy than the Vietnamese group (M=8.07±3.57). The factors affecting health literacy among Chinese were the length of residence (β=.442 p<.001), and adaptation to Korean culture (β=.381, p=.007). Conclusion: To develope graded education programs for promoting the health literacy of Chinese and Vietnamese female marriage immigrants, the length of residence can be considered. Continuously providing a support system to help them adapt to Korean culture can also have a positive effect on health literacy.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current state of health literacy research and to explore the directions of improvement health literacy in Korea. Methods: A review of literature was conducted via an electronic database and citation tracking reference. A total of 173 articles were identified, where and then 41 articles were selected for review that met the inclusion criteria. Two authors independently reviewed the articles using the matrix table and together examined together the three aspects of the studies: research methods, health literacy instrument, and results. Results: Most of the articles were descriptive-correlation studies, but there were one intervention study and six methodology studies that were developing health literacy measures and instrument related items and etc. More troubling sufficient samples and sampling methods were lacking at the population level. The validity of the used health literacy instruments was not sufficient reported. Conclusions: Health literacy instruments need to be validated in various population and contexts. Additionally, effective strategies to improve health literacy included teach-back, pictogram, and decision aids need to be tested in Korean health care system.

  • The fusion of learning, information, and technology presents dynamic challenges for all librarians, educators and students in 21st century libraries and schools. At the heart of this fusion is the growth of a pervasive, integrated information environment characterized by vast quantities of digital content, open choice, collaborative and participatory digital spaces, and the transition of the web environments from consumption of information to creation of information. This environment heralds important opportunities for librarians and teachers to rethink, re-imagine and recreate a dynamic approaches to information literacy instruction. Drawing on an extensive body of research undertaken through the Center for International Scholarship in School Libraries (CISSL), and published research on both information literacy and constructivist learning, this paper provides a critical examination of the current status of information literacy: its multiple conceptualizations, competing models, viewpoints, and its operationalizations in educational and library environments. The paper will challenge information literacy practices which center on simplistic, reductionist approaches to information literacy development, and the separation of information process and knowledge content. In particular it will address apparent contradictions in espoused conceptions of information literacy which revolve around "knowledge": knowledge construction, critical thinking, problem solving and the development of knowledgeable people; and information literacy practices which revolve around "information": a predominant focus on skills of access and evaluation of resources and with less attention given to engaging with found information to develop deep knowledge and understanding. The paper will present a series of challenges for moving forward with information literacy agendas in libraries and schools.

  • Computational Literacy education is being required in current digital age, but the educational strategy of it is lacking. In traditional education, instructors have been teaching by considering learners' characteristics for effective learning. It is necessary to investigate their characteristics for applying this method to computational literacy education. Therefore, we taught programming that is main area on computational literacy, and analyzed learners' characteristics focused on Felder's learning style and multiple intelligence. That is, we taught 194 university students computational literacy with scratch that was one of the popular educational programming languages, and analyzed the relation among learning style, multiple intelligence and the students' programming performance. Also, we found considerations through comparing students' characteristics with experts' ones.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify levels of health literacy and reported health behaviors among older adults with cardio-cerebrovascular disease residing in rural areas. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with a convenience sample of 134 older people (mean age=75.5 years, 71.6% Female) registered at seven health centers. The structured questionnaires were used to measure levels of health literacy and health behaviors. Results: The average functional health literacy score was $6.08{\pm}3.04$, and the health behavior score was $62.92{\pm}6.45$. Respectively health behavior was positively associated with health literacy. Education, economic status, number of family members, number of social activities and health literacy were contribution factors explaining 40.64% of the variance in health behavior. Health literacy specifically explained 12.5% of health behavior. Conclusion: These findings suggest that strategies for improving health behaviors and reducing health inequalities may benefit from adopting a stronger focus on health literacy within prevention, patient education, and other public health interventions. Further longitudinal studies are needed to help confirm that improving health literacy in the elderly may be effective in changing health behaviors.
