Phosphor particles ((Sr,Mg)2 SiO4:Eu2+ were suspended in deionized water in quartz cuvette and used for measuring liquid temperature field by using two-color-ratio method. In the temperature range of 23~77℃, it showed the relative error from 2.4% to 4% and the temperature sensitivity of 0.65 %/℃ at 30℃ and 0.95 %/℃ at 77 ℃. This performance is comparable to measurement techniques using thermographic liquid crystal or laser induced fluorescence or other thermographic phosphor particle. Among investigated potential error sources, the particle number density affected the intensity ratio and the temperature, but the effect of laser fluence was not evident.

The radiative heat transfer analysis in particle layer has an inherent difficulty in treating the governing integro-differential equations, which are derived from the remote effects. Most of the existing analyses are limited to the one dimensional system, taking into account only absorption or isotropic scatting of solid particles. Fortunately, a new Monte Carlo Simulation method is recently developed to analyse multidimensional radiative heat transfer in particles with anisotropically scatting. By this method, the present study analyses the radiative heat transfer in dispersed particles through the numerous droplets in the liquid droplet radiator to develop a technique of liquid droplet radiator. Consequently, knows that the radiative heat flux in particle layer is influenced by exitinction coefficient, optical thickness and surface area of particles in the system.
In this study, the formation of nanoparticles by a reaction of ozone with the volatile organic compounds(VOCs) emitted from a commercial home cleaner liquid was investigated using a $1-m^3$ reaction chamber($1{\times}1{\times}1m$). The home cleaner liquid was found to contain many VOCs, particularly terpenes. Some of these VOCs are known to readily react with ozone, forming indoor secondary pollutants. The correlation of particle concentration and reacted ozone concentration was examined with injections of three different ozone concentrations; 50, 100 and 200 ppb. The secondary nanoparticles were formed faster, with their numbers and mass concentrations becoming higher on increasing the concentration of ozone injected.
The aim of this work is to show the way of manufacturing the SiC mechanical seal at the low temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$ using clay and frit as source of secondary phase. $\alpha$-SiC and $\beta$-SiC powder which showed different distribution of particle were used as starting materials, i.e. average particle size of $\alpha$-SiC was larger than that of $\beta$-SiC. The mechanical and tribological properties of two groups of specimen, i.e. one contained mainly larger $\alpha$-SiC powder and the other mainly fine particle $\beta$-SiC, were measured. The specimen consisted of larger $\alpha$-SiC exhibited lower density flexural strength and wear resistance is comparison with these of sample containning mainly $\beta$-SiC . This difference could be originated from the dependence of capillary force on the particle size. For the larger SiC particle, the liquid phase may not fill the whole pores during sintering, due to low capillary force, whereas the liquid phase can infiltrate into the small ores surrounded small $\beta$-SiC particle. Thus, the course of high flexural strength and high wear resistance of specimen prepared using small particles can be explaced from the easy infiltration of liquid phase.

We have studied the motion of charged micro-particles that are immersed in a nematic liquid crystal (LC) and controlled by in-plane field. The LC is an anisotropic liquid such that the viscosity of the LC depends on flow direction, phase of the LC, and temperature, which affects the motion of the charged particles under the influence of electric field. This study shows that the motion of charged particles mainly depends on the applied voltage and the LC phase, but does not show any significant influence from the initial alignment of LC, although one may expect directional difference in drag force due to interaction between LC and particle. The viscosity changes due to temperature variations in nematic phase also show no signification influence on particle velocity when compared to the effect from varying in-plane field strength.
Recently high speed mixer, which is mixing, grinding, dispersion for liquid-liquid material, has been widely used several industries such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, electronic material. This high speed mixer has a core element part called particle separation device. Particle separation device, which makes mixed liquid and liquid material using shear forces from a rotor and a stator, is a decisive factor in the distributed parts. In this study, we examined the velocity distribution of the two models of particle separation device using computation fluid dynamics, so that we were able to see the difference of the velocity distribution according to the shape. Also, by experiment, we observed that the use of rotor-screen type is deemed more suitable in case of accurately considering the effect of improving of the dispersibility through the circulation of the future.
This paper presents results for dispensing and measuring micro-particles using a pneumatic dispensing system. Particle-suspended liquid droplets were dispensed and analyzed quantitatively at various particle concentrations and applied pressures. By using a developed experimental setup, the number of particles and the particle volume ratio in sequentially dispensed droplets were measured. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces were tested to find a suitable surface for counting the number of particle. It was confirmed that the dispensed particles concentrated into the center of the droplet on the smooth CD surface after evaporation of liquid. As the applied positive pressure increased, the number of particles per droplet increased consistently and the volume fraction of particles remained constant.
Glass particle distribution in a stirred solid/liquid systems was investigated using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The numerical results were compared to experimental data from the available literature which investigated the local dispersed phase volume fraction by means of an endoscope technique. Eulerian multi-phase model and applications considered high loading of solid particle was used to investigate the influence of the particle concentration and mixing tank size on the solid distribution. A good agreement was obtained between the experimental data and simulation results. The results showed different solid particle distribution in an agitator by particle concentration and mixer size.
Particle Image Thermometry(PIT) with liquid crystal tracers is used for visualizing and analysis of the bubbly flow in a vertical temperature gradient. Quantitative data of the temperature were obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural-network was applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. This paper describes the method, and presents the transient mixing temperature patterns of the bubbly flow.
The rheocasting characteristics are strongly influenced by the microstructural morphology such as particle size, form factor and contiguity. In this study, the effect of structural morphology on fluid flow characteristics of A356 semi-solid alloy was investigated with a vacuum suction fluidity test. Semi-solid metal slurry was made by the mechanical stirring, the liquidus casting, and H-NCM to be analysed. H-NCM could obtain uniform and fine globular microstructures of 0.9 form factor and 55 ${\mu}m$ particle size. Inoculation was found to be effective for reducing particle size, however, for H-NCM it should be avoided due to the cause of increasing contiguity. The fluidity test indicated that the non-stirring method had higher fluidity and smaller liquid segregation in the same solid faction of 0.4 than the stirring method, for smaller particle size and higher form factor. It was observed that liquid segregation decreased as the particle size is smaller and form factor is higher. The results of die-casting experiment were a good agreement with those of fluidity test.
