Research in this paper focuses on the kinetic evaluation of swelling of the liquid crystalline phases of glyceryl monooleate (GMO). Swelling of the lamellar and cubic liquid crystalline phases of GMO was studied using two in vitro methods, a total immersion method and a Franz cell method. The swelling of the lamellar phase and GMO having 0 %w/w initial water content was temperature dependent. The swelling ratio was greater at $20^{\circ}^C than 37^{\circ}^C$ . The water uptake increased dramatically with decreasing initial water content of the liquid crystalline phases. The swelling rates obtained using the Franz cell method with a moist nylon membrane to mimic buccal drug delivery situation were slower than the total immersion method. The swelling was studied by employing first-order and second-order swelling kinetics. The swelling of the liquid crystalline phases of GMO could be described by second-order swelling kinetics. The initial stage of the swelling (t < 4 h) followed the square root of time relationship, indicating that this model is also suitable for describing the water uptake by the liquid crystalline matrices. These results obtained from the current study demonstrate that the swelling strongly depends on temperature, the initial water content of the liquid crystalline phases and the methodology employed for measuring the swelling of GMO.
To estimate the measurement uncertainty for industrial platinum resistance thermometers(IPRTs) made with 3-wire connection, the immersion temperature profile was investigated using a liquid bath. Two types of IPRTs having lead wires made of silver and nickel were constructed and the immersion profiles were measured at temperatures from -50 $^{\circ}C$ to 250 $^{\circ}C$ using 3-wire and 4-wire method. As immersion depth and temperature increased, the resistances measured by 3-wire method increased linearly but not for 4-wire method. To calibrate a 3-wire IPRT, the immersion effect must be accounted for. We propose a linear equation to assess correctly the measurement uncertainty.

The liquid disintegration and characteristics of atomization through the swirl nozzle is affected by injection pressure and injection time when the liquid is injected intermittently. These transient phenomena are investigated by electronic controlled-fuel injection nozzle. The effect of injection conditions on disintegration of liquid injected through nozzle is observed photographically by using delay circuit. Droplet size of the element of the sample is measured by the liquid immersion sampling technique. SMD of droplets is varied with time and is decreased as the injection pressure increases. As the injection pressure increases, the maximum diameter of droplet and diameter of droplet which has the maximum droplet number decrease. Spray angle is not affected on injection pressure and change of spray angle with time is associated with needle movement.

An experiment was conducted to figure out the atomization characteristics of a highly viscous biodiesel fuel with rice-barn oil applying and ultrasonic energy into it. A spray simulator for the droplet atomization, an ultrasonic system, and six different nozzles(3 pintle-type nozzles and 3 single hole-type nozzles) were made. To investigate effects of ultrasonic energy in a highly viscous liquid fuel, an immersion liquid method was used as a measurement method on droplet size distributions. It was found that the ultrasonic energy was effective for the atomization improvement of the rice-bran oil as a highly viscous biodiesel fuel and the factor나 such as the nozzle opening pressure, pin-edge angles, hole diameters, and collection distances affected the atomization of spray droplets.
Purpose: To secure efficient thermal management technology for Li-ion batteries, the applicability of the system applied with single-phase immersion technology was checked through an experiment. Method: Using JH3 pouch cells produced by LG-Chem, Korea, A 14S2P module was manufactured and immersed in a vegetable-based cooling fluid produced by Cargill, USA, and then charged and discharged at a rate of 0.3C to 1C to check the heat distribution. Result: It was possible to manage and there was no change in the molecular structure of the immersion solution. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the immersion cooling method can be applied to the thermal management of Li-ion batteries.

In this study, a liquid sheet type co-axial nozzle has been used to investigate the turbulent atomization characteristics which could result in the experimental data to be used in designing a jet nozzle with high performance. Image processing technique and immersion sampling method were employed to measure droplet size. In atomizing characteristics, droplet size distributions and absolute droplet sizes, SMD(Sauter Mean Diameter) have been investigated in the wide ranges of flow field depending upon the air-water mass ratios. And the comparisons between the present data and the semi-empirical curves have been conducted semi-empirical correlation for SMD has been derived in the present analysis.
Ultrasonic energy was applied for atomizing rice-bran oil which is a highly viscous bio fuel. Six different nozzles, an injection simulator, and an ultrasonic generator system were designed and constructed for the experiment. An immersion liquid method was used for the measurement of injection droplet sizes. The characteristics of injection droplets was investigated with respect to the numbers of the droplets with diameters ranging from 5$\mu$m 50$\mu$m and to the Sauter mean diameter. The results showed that the ultrasonic energy was effective for the improvement of the atomization of the injection droplets for all the factors such as type of nozzles, nozzle opening pressures, and collection distances.

The oil immersion method can be used to create objective lenses with long working distances without sacrificing the focusing resolution for laser processing. In this study, a space in which air or oil can be filled was formed in the middle of a lens for analyzing the optical properties of a liquid-oil immersion lens. As the refractive media, air and oils of different refractive index values (1.2 and 1.5, respectively) were used. A simulation was conducted in the ZEMAX software environment using the ray-tracing technique, and the performance of the oil immersion lens was verified by determining its image distortion and focal length (FL) in each medium. In the case of air, the calculated FL was 0.813 mm, whereas the imaged FLs were 1.594 mm and 8.126 mm when the refraction indices were 1.2 and 1.5, respectively. The FL of an oil immersion lens could be increased considerably. In terms of image distortion, the oil immersion lens exhibited little distortion at the center in all cases, but different degrees of image distortion were observed at different points away from the center depending on the refraction index degree.
As the consumer market in the eco-friendly vehicle industry grows, the demand for water pump in a electric car parts market. This study intend to propose a mathematical model that can verify the effect of improving thermal properties when a non-conductive cooling filler liquid is introduced into an electric vehicle water pump. Also, the pros and cons of the immersion cooling method and future development way were suggested by analyzing the cooling characteristics using on the derived analysis solution. Thermal characteristics analysis of electric water pump applied with non-conductive filler liquid was carried out, and the diffusion boundary condition in the motor body and the boundary condition the inside pump were expressed as a geometric model. As a result of analyzing the temperature change for the heat source of the natural convection method and the heat conduction method, the natural convection method has difficulty in dissipating heat because no decrease in temperature due to heat release was found even after 300 sec. Also, it can be seen that the heat dissipation effect was obtained even though the non-conductive filling liquid was applied at the 120 sec and 180 sec in the heat conduction method. It has proposed to minimize thermal embrittlement and lower motor torque by injecting a non-conductive filler liquid into the motor body and designing a partition wall thickness of 2.5 mm or less.
The purpose of this study is to compare the SMD(Sauter mean diameter) with different vibrant plates. Each vibrant plates have different surface roughness. Also liquid film thickness are measured for explanation how to concern atomization. Ultrasonic waves is used for vibration. Immersion liquid method is used for the measure of SMD and also liquid film thickness is measured using of point needle method. Distilled water and gasoline fuel are used to liquids. Supplied liquid flow rates are $18{\sim}296cc/min$. Centerline average roughness of vibrant plates are 0.5, 2.0, 4.7, $9.5\;{\mu}m$ and diameter of vibrant plate is 60mm. In result, good atomization of liquid is obtained in widen flow rates. The mean droplet size is increased in orders of 4.7, 2.0. 9.5, $0.5\;{\mu}m$ surface roughness. Distilled water has a big mean droplet size than gasoline fuel in low flow rate. Above the 78cc/min flow rates, distilled water has a small mean droplet size than gasoline fuel. Liquid films changes are measured with ultrasonic power. Also, cavitation effect on sprays is observed.
