  • In this paper, a discrete-time variable structure controller for linear time-varying systems with time-varying disturbances is proposed. The proposed method guarantees that the system state is globally uniformly ultimately bounded (G,U.U.B.) under the existence of external disturbances.

  • Let $a{\oplus}b$ = max(a, b), $a{\otimes}b$=a+b, a, $b\in\mathbb{R}_{\varepsilon}\;:=\cup\{-\infty\}$. In max-plus algebra we work on the linear algebra structure for the pair of operations (${\oplus},{\otimes}$) extended to matrices and vectors over $\mathbb{R}_{\varepsilon}$. In this paper our main aim is to reproduce the work of R. A. Cuninghame-Green [3] on the linear systems over a max-plus semi-field $\mathbb{R}_{\varepsilon}$.

  • In general, the solvability of linear robust output regulation problem are not preserved under time-sampling. Thus, it is found that the digital regulator implemented by itme-sampling of anlog output regulator designed based on the continuous-time linear system model is nothing but a 1st order approximation with respect to time-sampling. By the way, one can design an improved sampled-data regulator with respect to sampling time by utilizing the intrinsic structure of the system. In this paper, we study the system structures which it is possible to design an improved sampled-data regulator with respect to sampling time.

  • Mixed linear models have been widely used in various correlated data including multivariate survival data. In this paper we extend hierarchical-likelihood(h-likelihood) approach for mixed linear models with right censored data to that for left censored data. We also allow a general random-effect structure and propose the estimation procedure. The proposed method is illustrated using a numerical data set and is also compared with marginal likelihood method.

  • This paper develops a simple interactive procedure which can be efficiently used to solve a bicriteria linear programming problem. The procedure exploits the relatively simple structure of the bicriterion linear programming problem. Its application to a transportation problem is also presented. The results demonstrate that the method developed in this paper could be easily applicable to any bicriteria linear program in general.

  • In this paper, a new fast algorithm of FIR least squares filter with linear phase is presented. The general unknown statistics case is considered, whereby only sample records of the data are available. Taking advantage of the near-to-Toeplitz+Hankel structure of the resulting normal equation, a fast algorithm which gurantees the linear phase constraint, is developed that recursively produces the filter coefficient of linear phase FIR filter for a single block of data.

  • Recently in the field of precision positioning device, the contact-free actuators are gaining focuses with their outstanding performances by eliminating mechanical frictions. Th is paper is about the driving algorithm for contact-free linear actuator. The proposed driving algorithm has similar structure of drives of switched reluctance motor and reduces the normal forces and force ripple. The simulation and experiment are executed to verify the proposed method.

  • Multi-span steel-concrete composite (SCC) bridges are very sensitive to earthquake loading. Extensive damage may occur not only in the substructures (piers), which are expected to yield, but also in the other components (e.g., deck, abutments) involved in carrying the seismic loads. Current seismic codes allow the design of regular bridges by means of linear elastic analysis based on inelastic design spectra. In bridges with superstructure transverse motion restrained at the abutments, a dual load path behavior is observed. The sequential yielding of the piers can lead to a substantial change in the stiffness distribution. Thus, force distributions and displacement demand can significantly differ from linear elastic analysis predictions. The objectives of this study are assessing the influence of piers-deck stiffness ratio and of soil-structure interaction effects on the seismic behavior of continuous SCC bridges with dual load path, and evaluating the suitability of linear elastic analysis in predicting the actual seismic behavior of these bridges. Parametric analysis results are presented and discussed for a common bridge typology. The response dependence on the parameters is studied by nonlinear multi-record incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). Comparisons are made with linear time history analysis results. The results presented suggest that simplified linear elastic analysis based on inelastic design spectra could produce very inaccurate estimates of the structural behavior of SCC bridges with dual load path.

  • In this paper, we proposes a new fuzzy inference system for modeling nonlinear systems given input and output data. In the suggested fuzzy inference system, the number of fuzzy rules and parameter values of membership functions are automatically decided by using the kernel-based method. The kernel-based method individually performs linear transformation and kernel mapping. Linear transformation projects input space into linearly transformed input space. Kernel mapping projects linearly transformed input space into high dimensional feature space. The structure of the proposed fuzzy inference system is equal to a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model whose input variables are weighted linear combinations of input variables. In addition, the number of fuzzy rules can be reduced under the condition of optimizing a given criterion by adjusting linear transformation matrix and parameter values of kernel functions using the gradient descent method. Once a structure is selected, coefficients in consequent part are determined by the least square method. Simulated result illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
