  • Three kinds of viscoelastic damper model, which has a non-linear spring as an element is studied analytically and numerically. The behavior of the damper model shows non-linear hysteresis curves which is qualitatively similar to those of real viscoelastic materials. The motion is governed by a non-linear constitutive equation and an additional equation of motion. Harmonic balance method is applied to get analytic solutions of the system. The frequency-response curves show that multiple solutions co-exist and that the jump phenomena can occur. In addition, it is shown that separate solution branch exists and that it can merge with the primary response curve. Saddle-node bifurcation sets explain the occurrences of such non-linear phenomena.

  • The effect of cutting off fibers on transient load in a polymeric matrix composite lamina was studied in this paper. The behavior of fibers was considered to be linear elastic and the matrix behavior was considered to be linear viscoelastic. To model the viscoelastic behavior of matrix, a three parameter solid model was employed. To conduct this research, finite difference method was used. The governing equations were obtained using Shear-lag theory and were solved using boundary and initial conditions before and after the development of break. Using finite difference method, the governing integro-differential equations were developed and normal stress in the fibers is obtained. Particular attention is paid the dynamic overshoot resulting when the fibers are suddenly broken. Results show that considering viscoelastic properties of matrix causes a decrease in dynamic load concentration factor and an increase in static load concentration factor. Also with increases the number of broken fibers, trend of increasing load concentration factor decreases gradually. Furthermore, the overshoot of load in fibers adjacent to the break in a polymeric matrix with high transient time is lower than a matrix with lower transient time, but the load concentration factor in the matrix with high transient time is lower.

  • In this paper the dynamic behavior of a viscoelastic Timoshenko beam subjected to a concentrated moving load are studied analytically and numerically. The viscoelastic properties of the beam obey the linear standard model in shear and incompressible in bulk. The governing equation for Timoshenko beam theory is obtained in viscoelastic form using the correspondence principle. The analytical solution is based on the Fourier series and the numerical solution is performed with finite element method. The effects of the material properties and the load velocity are investigated on the responses by numerical and analytical methods. In addition, the results are compared with the Euler beam results.

  • A hierarchical multi-scale modeling strategy devoted to the study of a Bitumen-Bound Gravel (BBG) is presented in this paper. More precisely, the paper investigates the temperature-dependent linear viscoelastic of the material when submitted to low deformations levels and moderate number of cycles. In such a hierarchical approach, 3D digital Representative Elementary Volumes are built and the outcomes at a scale (here, the sub-mesoscale) are used as input data at the next higher scale (here, the mesoscale). The viscoelastic behavior of the bituminous phases at each scale is taken into account by means of a generalized Maxwell model: the bulk part of the behavior is separated from the deviatoric one and bulk and shear moduli are expanded into Prony series. Furthermore, the viscoelastic phases are considered to be thermorheologically simple: time and temperature are not independent. This behavior is reproduced by the Williams-Landel-Ferry law. By means of the FE simulations of stress relaxation tests, the parameters of the various features of this temperature-dependent viscoelastic behavior are identified.

  • A three-parameter model of viscoelastic damper, which has a non-linear spring as an element is incorporated into an oscillator. The behavior of the damper model shows non-linear hysteresis curves which is qualitatively similar to those of real viscoelastic materials. The motion is governed by three-dimensional non-linear dynamical system of equations. The harmonic balance method is applied to get analytic solutions of the system. The frequency-response curves show that multiple solutions co-exist and that the jump phenomena can occur. In addition, it is shown that separate solution branch exists and that it can merge with the primary response curve. Saddle-node bifurcation sets explain the occurences of such non-linear phenomena. A direct time integration of the original equation of motion validifies the use of the harmonic balance method to this sort of problem.

  • This paper aimed to investigate the nonclassical size dependent free vibration behavior of regularly squared cutout viscoelastic nanobeams. The nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory is modified and adopted to incorporate the viscoelasticity effect. The Kelvin Voigt viscoelastic model is adopted to model the linear viscoelastic constitutive response. To explore the influence of shear deformation effect due to cutout, both Euler Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams theories are considered. The Hamilton principle is utilized to derive the dynamic equations of motion incorporating viscoelasticity and size dependent effects. Closed form solutions for the resonant frequencies for both perforated Euler Bernoulli nanobeams (PEBNB) and perforated Timoshenko nanobeams (PTNB) are derived considering different boundary conditions. The developed procedure is verified by comparing the obtained results with the available results in the literature. Parametric studies are conducted to show the influence of the material damping, the perforation, the material and the geometrical parameters as well as the boundary and loading conditions on the dynamic behavior of viscoelastic perforated nanobeams. The proposed procedure and the obtained results are supportive in the analysis and design of perforated viscoelastic NEMS structures.

  • In this study, the stress singularity factors generated during cooling down from high curing temperature to room temperature have been analyzed for the viscoelastic thin film. The time domain boundary element method has been employed to investigate the behavior of stresses for the whole interface. Within the context of a linear viscoelastic theory, a stress singularity exists at the point where the interface between the elastic substrate and the viscoelastic thin film intersects the free surface.

  • Unwanted vibration is an issue in many industrial systems, especially in nano-devices. There are many ways to compensate these unwanted vibrations based on the results of the past researches. Elastic medium and smart material etc. are effective methods to restrain unnecessary vibration. In this manuscript, dynamic analysis of viscoelastic nanosensor which is made of functionally graded (FGM) nanobeams is investigated. It is assumed that, the shaft is flexible. The system is modeled based on Timoshenko beam theory and also environmental condition, external linear varying loads and thermal loading effect are considered. The equations of motion are extracted by using energy method and Hamilton principle to describe the translational and shear deformation's behavior of the system. Governing equations of motion are extracted by supplementing Eringen's nonlocal theory. Finally vibration behavior of system especially the frequency of system is developed by implementation Semi-analytical differential transformed method (DTM). The results are validated in the researches that have been done in the past and shows good agreement with them.

  • This work applies a four-known quasi-3D shear deformation theory to investigate the bending behavior of a functionally graded plate resting on a viscoelastic foundation and subjected to hygro-thermo-mechanical loading. The theory utilizes a hyperbolic shape function to predict the transverse shear stress, and the transverse stretching effect of the plate is considered. The principle of virtual displacement is applied to obtain the governing differential equations, and the Navier method, which comprises an exponential term, is used to obtain the solution. Novel to the current study, the impact of the viscoelastic foundation model, which includes a time-dependent viscosity parameter in addition to Winkler's and Pasternak parameters, is carefully investigated. Numerical examples are presented to validate the theory. A parametric study is conducted to study the effect of the damping coefficient, the linear and nonlinear loadings, the power-law index, and the plate width-tothickness ratio on the plate bending response. The results show that the presence of the viscoelastic foundation causes an 18% decrease in the plate deflection and about a 10% increase in transverse shear stresses under both linear and nonlinear loading conditions. Additionally, nonlinear loading causes a one-and-a-half times increase in horizontal stresses and a nearly two-times increase in normal transverse stresses compared to linear loading. Based on the article's findings, it can be concluded that the viscosity effect plays a significant role in the bending response of plates in hygrothermal environments. Hence it shall be considered in the design.
