In hyperspectral remote sensing, linear spectral mixture model is a common procedure decomposing into the components of a mixed pixel and estimating the fraction of each end-member. Although linear spectral mixture model is frequently used in geology and mineral mapping because this model is simple and easy to apply, this model is not always valid in forest and urban area having rather complex structure. This study aims to analyze possible error for applying linear spectral mixture model. For the study, we measured laboratory spectra of mixture sample, having various materials, fractions, distributions. The accuracy of linear mixture model is low with the mixture sample having similar fraction because the multi-scattering between components is maximum. Additionally, this multi-scattering is related to the types, fraction, and distribution of components. Further analysis is necessary to quantify errors from linear spectral mixture model.

The objective of the present study is to compare various conventional and recently evolved satellite image-processing techniques and to ascertain the best possible technique that can identify and position of aquaculture farms accurately in and around the Younggwang coastal area. Several conventional techniques performed to extract such information fiom the Landsat-TM imagery do not seem to yield better information about the aquaculture farms, and lead to misclassification. The large errors between the actual and extracted aquaculture farm information are due to existence of spectral confusion and inadequate spatial resolution of the sensor. This leads to possible occurrence of mixture pixels or 'mixels' of the source of errors in the classification techniques. Understanding the confusing and mixture pixel problems requires the development of efficient methods that can enable more reliable extraction of aquaculture farm information. Thus, the more recently evolved methods such as the step-by-step partial spectral end-member extraction and linear spectral unmixing methods are introduced. The farmer one assumes that an end-member, which is often referred to as 'spectrally pure signature' of a target feature, does not appear to be a spectrally pure form, but always mix with the other features at certain proportions. The assumption of the linear spectral unmxing is that the measured reflectance of a pixel is the linear sum of the reflectance of the mixture components that make up that pixel. The classification accuracy of the step-by-step partial end-member extraction improved significantly compared to that obtained from the traditional supervised classifiers. However, this method did not distinguish the aquaculture ponds and non-aquaculture ponds within the region of the aquaculture farming areas. In contrast, the linear spectral unmixing model produced a set of fraction images for the aquaculture, water and soil. Of these, the aquaculture fraction yields good estimates about the proportion of the aquaculture farm in each pixel. The acquired proportion was compared with the values of NDVI and both are positively correlated (R$^2$ =0.91), indicating the reliability of the sub-pixel classification.ixel classification.
An area corresponding to the spatial resolution of optical remote sensor imagery often includes more than one pure surface material. In such case, a pixel value represents a mixture of spectral reflectance of several materials within it. This study attempts to apply the spectral mixture analysis on forest and to evaluate the information content of endmember fractions resulted from the spectral unmixing. Landsat-7 ETM+ image obtained over the study area in the Kwangneung Experimental Forest was initially geo-referenced and radiometrically corrected to reduce the atmospheric and topographic attenuations. Linear mixture model was applied to separate each pixel by the fraction of six endmember: deciduous, coniferous, soil, built-up, shadow, and rice/grass. The fractional values of six endmember could be used to separate forest cover in more detailed spatial scale. In addition, the soil fraction can be further used to extract the information related to the canopy closure. We also found that the shadow effect is more distinctive at coniferous stands.
This paper proposes a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) - based speech emotion recognition methods using four feature parameters; 1) Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) spectral entropy, 2) delta FFT spectral entropy, 3) Mel-frequency Filter Bank (MFB) spectral entropy, and 4) delta MFB spectral entropy. In addition, we use four emotions in a speech database including anger, sadness, happiness, and neutrality. We perform speech emotion recognition experiments using each pre-defined emotion and gender. The experimental results show that the proposed emotion recognition using FFT spectral-based entropy and MFB spectral-based entropy performs better than existing emotion recognition based on GMM using energy, Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR), Linear Prediction Coefficient (LPC), and pitch parameters. In experimental Results, we attained a maximum recognition rate of 75.1% when we used MFB spectral entropy and delta MFB spectral entropy.
This paper is to present an approach for generating coarse resolution (MODIS data) fraction images of forested region in Korea peninsula using forest type area fraction derived from high resolution data (ASTER data) in regional forest area. A 15-m spatial resolution multi-spectral ASTER image was acquired under clear sky conditions on September 22, 2003 over the forested area near Seoul, Korea and was used to select each end-member that represent a pure reflectance of component of forest such as different forest, bare soil and water. The area fraction of selected each end-member and a 500-m spatial resolution MODIS reflectance product covering study area was applied to a linear mixture inversion model for calculating the fraction image of forest component across the South Korea. We found that the area fraction values of each end-member observed from high resolution image data could be used to separate forest cover in low resolution image data.
The accurate evaluation of wind characteristics and wind-induced structural responses during a typhoon is of significant importance for bridge design and safety assessment. This paper presents an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm-based angular-linear approach for probabilistic modeling of field-measured wind characteristics. The proposed method has been applied to model the wind speed and direction data during typhoons recorded by the structural health monitoring (SHM) system instrumented on the arch Jiubao Bridge located in Hangzhou, China. In the summer of 2015, three typhoons, i.e., Typhoon Chan-hom, Typhoon Soudelor and Typhoon Goni, made landfall in the east of China and then struck the Jiubao Bridge. By analyzing the wind monitoring data such as the wind speed and direction measured by three anemometers during typhoons, the wind characteristics during typhoons are derived, including the average wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density (PSD). An EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach is proposed for modeling the joint distribution of the wind speed and direction. For the marginal distribution of the wind speed, the finite mixture of two-parameter Weibull distribution is employed, and the finite mixture of von Mises distribution is used to represent the wind direction. The parameters of each distribution model are estimated by use of the EM algorithm, and the optimal model is determined by the values of $R^2$ statistic and the Akaike's information criterion (AIC). The results indicate that the stochastic properties of the wind field around the bridge site during typhoons are effectively characterized by the proposed EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach. The formulated joint distribution of the wind speed and direction can serve as a solid foundation for the purpose of accurately evaluating the typhoon-induced fatigue damage of long-span bridges.

The Multi-Band Excitation(MBE) speech coder uses a different approach for the representation of the excitation signal. It replaces the frame-based single voiced/unvoiced classification of a classical speech coder with a set of such decision over harmonic intervals in the frequency domain. This enables each speech segment to be a mixture of voiced and unvoiced, and improves the synthetic speech quality by reducing decision errors that might occur on the frame-based single voiced and unvoiced decision process when input speech is degraded with noise. The IMBE-LP, improved version of MBE with linear prediction, represents the spectral information of MBE model with linear prediction coefficients to obtain low bit rate of 2.4 kbps. In this Paper, we proposed a variable rate IMBE-LP vocoder that has lower bit rate than IMBE-LP without degrading the synthetic speech quality. To determine the LP order, it uses the spectral band information of the MBE model that has something to do with he input speech's characteristics. Experimental results are riven with our findings and discussions.
ASTER image has some advantages for classification such as 15 spectral bands and 15m ${\sim}$ 90m spatial resolution. However, in the classification using general remote sensing image, shadow areas are often classified into water area. It is very difficult to divide shadow and water. Because reflectance characteristics of water is similar to characteristics of shadow. Many land cover items are consisted in one pixel which is 15m spatial resolution. Nowadays, very high resolution satellite image (IKONOS, Quick Bird) and Digital Surface Model (DSM) by air borne laser scanner can also be used. In this study, mixed pixel analysis of ASTER image has carried out using IKONOS image and DSM. For mixed pixel analysis, high accurated geometric correction was required. Image matching method was applied for generating GCP datasets. IKONOS image was rectified by affine transform. After that, one pixel in ASTER image should be compared with corresponded 15×15 pixel in IKONOS image. Then, training dataset were generated for mixed pixel analysis using visual interpretation of IKONOS image. Finally, classification will be carried out based on Linear Mixture Model. Shadow extraction might be succeeded by the classification. The extracted shadow area was validated using shadow image which generated from 1m${\sim}$2m spatial resolution DSM. The result showed 17.2% error was occurred in mixed pixel. It might be limitation of ASTER image for shadow extraction because of 8bit quantization data.
This paper proposes an automatic genre classification system for Korean traditional music. The Proposed system accepts and classifies queried input music as one of the six musical genres such as Royal Shrine Music, Classcal Chamber Music, Folk Song, Folk Music, Buddhist Music, Shamanist Music based on music contents. In general, content-based music genre classification consists of two stages - music feature vector extraction and Pattern classification. For feature extraction. the system extracts 58 dimensional feature vectors including spectral centroid, spectral rolloff and spectral flux based on STFT and also the coefficient domain features such as LPC, MFCC, and then these features are further optimized using SFS method. For Pattern or genre classification, k-NN, Gaussian, GMM and SVM algorithms are considered. In addition, the proposed system adopts MFC method to settle down the uncertainty problem of the system performance due to the different query Patterns (or portions). From the experimental results. we verify the successful genre classification performance over $97{\%}$ for both the k-NN and SVM classifier, however SVM classifier provides almost three times faster classification performance than the k-NN.
The construction of hyperspectral test-bed dataset is essential for the effective performance of hyperspectral image for various applications. In this study, we analyzed the technical points for generating of optimal hyperspectral test-bed site for hyperspectral sensors and the efficiency of hyperspectral test-bed site. In this regard regions we analyzed existing construction techniques for generating test-bed site in domestic and foreign, and designed the test-bed site to acquire images from the airborne hyperspectral sensor. To produce a reference data from the image of constructed test-bed site, this study applied vicarious correction as a pre-processing and analyzed its efficiency. The result presented that it was ideal to use tarp for the vicarious correction, but it is possible to use the materials with constant spectral reflectance or with relatively low variance of spectral reflectance. The test-bed data taken in this study can be employed as the reference of domestic and foreign studies for hyperspectral image processing.
