  • In recent years, there is an increasing interest to optimize the fuzzy logic controller with different methods. This paper focuses on the optimization of a fuzzy logic controller applied to a seismically excited nonlinear building. In most cases, this problem is formulated based on the linear behavior of the structure, however in this paper, four sets of objective functions are considered with respect to the nonlinear responses of the structure as the peak interstory drift ratio, the peak level acceleration, the ductility factor and the maximum control force. The Improved Charged System Search is used to optimize the membership functions and the rule base of the fuzzy controller. The obtained results of the optimized and the non-optimized fuzzy controllers are compared to the uncontrolled responses of the structure. Also, the performance of the utilized method is compared with various classical and advanced optimization algorithms.

  • Methods based on integer programming have been shown to be very effective in solving various crew pairing optimization problems. However, their applicability is limited to problems with linear constraints and objective functions. Also, those methods often require an unacceptable amount of time and/or memory resources given problems of larger scale. Heuristic methods such as neighborhood search, on the other hand, can handle large-scaled problems without too much difficulty and can be applied to problems having any form of objective functions and constraints. However, neighborhood search often gets stuck at local optima when faced with complex search spaces. This paper presents ,i hybrid algorithm of neighborhood search and integer programming, which nicely combines the advantages of both methods. The hybrid algorithm has been successfully tested on a large-scaled crew pairing optimization problem for a real subway line.

  • In this paper we present a genetic approach for trajectory control algorithm of balancing weight for IWR biped walking robot. The biped walking robot, IWR that was made by Automatic Control Lab. of Inha University has a trunk which stabilizes its walking by generating compensation moment. Trunk is composed of a revolute and a prismatic joint which roles balancing weight. The motion of balancing weight is determined by the gait of legs and represented by two linear second order ordinary differential equations. The solution of this equation must satisfy some constraints simultaneously to have a physical meaning. Genetic algorithm search for this feasible motion of balancing weight under some constraints. Simulation results show that feasible motion of balancing weight can be obtained by genetic algorithm.

  • To search a pattern P in a text, such index data structures as suffix trees and suffix arrays are widely used in diverse applications of string processing and computational biology. It is well known that searching in suffix trees is faster than suffix ways in the aspect of time complexity, i.e., it takes O(${\mid}P{\mid}$) time to search P on a constant-size alphabet in a suffix tree while it takes O(${\mid}P{\mid}+logn$) time in a suffix way where n is the length of the text. In this paper we present a linear-tim8 search algorithm in suffix arrays for constant-size alphabets. For a gene.al alphabet $\Sigma$, it takes O(${\mid}P{\mid}log{\mid}{\Sigma}{\mid}$) time.

  • It is more important to analysis of huge gemonics data in Bioinformatics. Here we present a novel datamining approach to predict structure and function using protein's primnary structure only. We propose not also to develope n-Block substring search algorithm in reducing enormous search space effectively in relation to feature selection, but to formulate weighted linear algorithm in a prediction of structure and function of a protein using primary structure. And we show efficient in protein domain characterization and classification by calculation weight value in determining domain association in each selected substring, and also reveal that more efficient results are acquired through claculated model score result in an inference about degree of association with each CDS(coding sequence) in domain.

  • Since the MPEG-4 visual standard enables content-based functionalities, it is necessary to extract video objects from video sequences. Segmentation algorithms can largely be classified into two different categories: automatic segmentation and user-assisted segmentation. In this paper, we propose a new user-assisted image segmentation method based on the active contour. If we define a shape space as a set of all possible variations from the initial curve and we assume that the shape space is linear, it can be decomposed into the column space and the left null space of the shape matrix. In the proposed method, the shape space vector in the column space describes changes from the initial curve to the imaginary feature curve, and a dynamic graph search algorithm describes the detailed shape of the object in the left null space. Since we employ the shape matrix and the SUSAN operator to outline object boundaries, the proposed algorithm can ignore unwanted feature points generated by low-level image processing operations and is, therefore, applicable to images of complex background. We can also compensate for limitations of the shape matrix with a dynamic graph search algorithm.

  • We present a new algorithm for solving a system of nonlinear equations with convex constraints which combines proximal point and projection methodologies. Compared with the existing projection methods for solving the problem, we use a different system of linear equations to obtain the proximal point; and moreover, at the step of getting next iterate, our projection way and projection region are also different. Based on the Armijo-type line search procedure, a new hyperplane is introduced. Using the separate property of hyperplane, the new algorithm is proved to be globally convergent under much weaker assumptions than monotone or more generally pseudomonotone. We study the convergence rate of the iterative sequence under very mild error bound conditions.

  • In this paper, a multi-channel speech enhancement method using the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) algorithm and a variable learning rate control is proposed. To control the learning rate for adaptive filters of the LCMV algorithm, the direction of arrival (DOA) is measured for each short-time input signal and the likelihood function of the target speech presence is estimated to control the filter learning rate. Using the likelihood measure, the learning rate is increased during the pure noise interval and decreased during the target speech interval. To optimize the parameter of the mapping function between the likelihood value and the corresponding learning rate, an exhaustive search is performed using the Bark's scale distortion (BSD) as the performance index. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional LCMV with fixed learning rate in the BSD by around 1.5 dB.

  • IP version 6 (IPv6) is a new If addressing scheme that has 128-bit address space. IPv6 is proposed to solve the address space problem of IP version 4 (IPv4) which has 32-bit address space. For a given IPv6 routing set, if a forwarding table is built using a trio structure, the trio has a lot more levels than that for IPv4. Hence, for IPv6 address lookup, the binary search on trio levels would be more appropriate and give better search performance than linear search on trio levels. This paper proposes a new IPv6 address lookup algorithm performing binary search on trio levels. The proposed algorithm uses a Bloom filter in pre-filtering levels which do not have matching nodes, and hence it reduces the number of off-chip memory accesses. Simulation has been performed using actual IPv6 routing sets, and the result shows that an IPv6 address lookup can be performed with 1-3 memory accesses in average for a routing data set with 1096 prefixes.

  • In this paper we extend primal-dual interior point algorithm for linear optimization (LO) problems to $P_*({\kappa})$ linear complementarity problems(LCPs) ([1]). We define proximity functions and search directions based on kernel functions, ${\psi}(t)=\frac{t^{p+1}-1}{p+1}-{\log}\;t$, $p{\in}$[0, 1], which is a generalized form of the one in [16]. It is the first to use this class of kernel functions in the complexity analysis of interior point method(IPM) for $P_*({\kappa})$ LCPs. We show that if a strictly feasible starting point is available, then new large-update primal-dual interior point algorithms for $P_*({\kappa})$ LCPs have $O((1+2{\kappa})nlog{\frac{n}{\varepsilon}})$ complexity which is similar to the one in [16]. For small-update methods, we have $O((1+2{\kappa})\sqrt{n}{\log}{\frac{n}{\varepsilon}})$ which is the best known complexity so far.
