A preconcentration procedure for determination of palladium by laser thermal lens spectrometry (TLS) is proposed. It is based on cloud point extraction of palladium(II) ions as 2-(3,5-dichloro-2-pyridylazo)-5-dimethylaminoaniline (3,5-diCl-PADMA) complexes using octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (Triton X-114) as surfactant. The effects of various experimental conditions such as pH, concentration of ligand and surfactant, equilibration temperature and time on cloud point extraction were studied. Under the optimized conditions, the calibration graph was linear in the range of 0.15~6 ng mL−1, and the detection limit was 0.04 ng mL−1 with an enrichment factor of 22. The sensitivity was enhanced by 846 times when compared with the conventional spectrophotometric method. The recovery of palladium was in the range of 96.6%~104.0%. The proposed method was applied to the determination of palladium in water samples.
This paper describes techniques of camera calibration and artificial landmarks detection for the automatic charging of a mobile robot, equipped with a fish-eye camera in the direction of its operation for movement or surveillance purposes. For its identification from the surrounding environments, three landmarks employed with infrared LEDs, were installed at the charging station. When the robot reaches a certain point, a signal is sent to the LEDs for activation, which allows the robot to easily detect the landmarks using its vision camera. To eliminate the effects of the outside light interference during the process, a difference image was generated by comparing the two images taken when the LEDs are on and off respectively. A fish-eye lens was used for the vision camera of the robot but the wide-angle lens resulted in a significant image distortion. The radial lens distortion was corrected after linear perspective projection transformation based on the pin-hole model. In the experiment, the designed system showed sensing accuracy of ${\pm}10$ mm in position and ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ in orientation at the distance of 550 mm.
To verify the 2D or 3D positioning accuracy of a multi-axes stage is not easy, particularly, in the case the moving path of the stage is not linear. This paper is a study on a measuring method for the curved path accurately. A machine vision technique is used to trace the moving path of two-axes stage. To improve the accuracy of machine vision, a zoom lens is used for the 2D micro moving path. The accuracy of this method depends of the CCD resolution and array align accuracy with the zoom lens system. Also, a further study for software algorithm is required to increase the tracing speed. This technique will be useful to trace a small object in the 2D micro path in real-time accurately.
In this paper we propose a small form factor actuator using an inclined motion guide for auto-focusing and zoom motions for mobile information devices. The novel structure using the inclined motion guide and a lens-supporting beam converts the circular motion by an ultrasonic motor into the linear motion of the optical lens. The proposed actuator has a simple structure to minimizing the mechanical tolerance, and the stroke is easy to modify by controlling the inclined angle. Experiments using a prototype verify the validity of the model as small form factor optical actuator.
In this paper, we propose an extrinsic calibration method for a multi-view camera to get an optimal pose in 3D space. Conventional calibration algorithms do not guarantee the calibration accuracy at a mid/long distance because pixel errors increase as the distance between camera and pattern goes far. To compensate for the calibration errors, firstly, we apply the Tsai's algorithm to each lens so that we obtain initial extrinsic parameters Then, we estimate extrinsic parameters by using distance vectors obtained from structural cues of a multi-view camera. After we get the estimated extrinsic parameters of each lens, we carry out a non-linear optimization using the relationship between camera coordinate and world coordinate iteratively. The optimal camera parameters can be used in generating 3D panoramic virtual environment and supporting AR applications.
We present a simple method to determine the focal distances of lenses with the Talbot self-images. This method uses only one grating, and a priori knowledge of the period of the grating is replaced with a linear relation between the (de)magnified periods of the Talbot images and the lens-to-grating distance. A thick lens whose effective focal length is 500 mm was used to validate the method, and the focal distance of the converging beam was determined with the difference of 0.15% for the nominal focal distance of 521.9 mm. The determined period of the grating with the difference of 0.2% also supports the validation.
This paper studies on the design and fabrication of a micro in-plane positioning actuator integrated with a microlens. Proposed in-plane actuator is a micro XY-stage which is composed of two linear comb drive actuators being orthogonal to each other. In the fabrication of actuator, the single crystalline silicon substrate anodically bonded with a #7740 glass substrate is used because of simple release and passivation. The structure of actuator is formed on the silicon facet of bonded fixture by chlorine-based deep RIE and then released by isotropic wet etching of glass (#7740) in hydrofluoric acid solution. Fabricated actuator has a large travel range up to $30({\pm}15){\mu}m$ and high resolution less than 0.01f1l1l in each direction. Experimented resonant frequency of this actuator is 630Hz. The micro-Fresnel lens is fabricated on the square-shape glass structure prepared in the center of actuator.
