Maximum Power Point Tracking in PMSG Using Fuzzy Logic Algorithm

  • In this paper, a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for a PMSG-based variable speed wind power system is proposed using the fuzzy logic algorithm. The control algorithm is developed based on the normal hill climb searching (HCS) method, commonly used in wind energy conversion systems (WECS). The inputs of fuzzy-based controller are the derivations of DC output power and the step size of DC/DC converter duty cycles. The main advantages of the proposed MPPT method are no need to measure the wind velocity and the generator rotational speed. As such, the control algorithm is independent of turbine characteristics, achieving the fast dynamic responses with non-linear fuzzy systems. The effectiveness of the proposed MPPT strategy has been verified through the simulated results.

An Interval Approach for Design and Analysis of Mechanical Systems with Uncertainties

  • This paper addresses the challenges of dealing with uncertainties based on interval analysis. An interval approach is proposed on the basis of Boundary Selection Method (BSM) for treating systems of linear interval equations in the presence of columnwise dependencies. An iterative procedure is developed for the problem solving where uncertainties are characterized in the form of interval quantities. An applied example is used to illustrate effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed approach. This new method can be applied for such circumstances that involve finite element analysis of structures, inverse dynamic analysis of mechanisms, and worst case design studies in the presence of the uncertainties.

A Hydraulic-Oil Pump System using SR Drive with a Direct Torque Control Scheme

  • The hydraulic-oil pump is widely used for building machinery, brake systems of vehicles and automatic control systems due to its high dynamic force and smooth linear force control performance. This paper presents a novel direct instantaneous pressure control of the hydraulic pump system with SRM drive. The proposed hydraulic pump system embeds the pressure controller and direct instantaneous torque controller. Due to the proportional relationship between pump pressure and torque, pressure can be controlled by the motor torque directly. The proposed direct torque controller can reduce inherent torque ripple of SRM, and develop a smooth torque, which can increase the stability of the hydraulic pump. The proposed hydraulic pump system has also fast step response and load response. The proposed hydraulic pump system is verified by computer simulation and experimental results.

  • The recent interest in distributed generation (DG) due to the opening of the electricity market and the need for alternatives to conventional fossil fuel-based electricity generation has created renewed interest in grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) systems. Many studies are being performed at the power system level to examine the impacts of grid-connected PV systems and several models for PV arrays have been proposed in the literature. However, the complexity of these models and difficulties of implementing them in various software programs can be deterrents to their use. This paper proposes a robust and flexible PV device model suitable for dynamic and transient studies where the PV array's non-linear DC characteristics are important. The model's implementation in software is straightforward and it can even be constructed using standard software library components, as demonstrated using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • Adaptive control systems based upon the command generator tracker(CGT) approach have attracted considerable interest because of the simple structure of its adaptive controller. Some attempts to such improve the adaptive control algorithm, for the sake of the application to broader class of plants, are made. Recently, Su and Sobel(1992) proposed that those schemes can be treated by an unified theory using a metasystem representation with some types of supplementary dynamics. However, in their method, it is difficult to find the dynamic compensator, which is proper and output feedback stabilizable, for the uncertain plant. This paper proposes a new design method of such supplementary dynamics and some parameters of adaptive control system for linear time invariant SISO plants. The method gives a concrete and systematic design method using only a few priori knowledge of the plant.

Modeling and Multivariable Control of a Novel Multi-Dimensional Levitated Stage with High Precision

  • This paper presents the modeling and multivariable feedback control of a novel high-precision multi-dimensional positioning stage. This integrated 6-degree-of-freedom. (DOF) motion stage is levitated by three aerostatic bearings and actuated by 3 three-phase synchronous permanent-magnet planar motors (SPMPMs). It can generate all 6-DOF motions with only a single moving part. With the DQ decomposition theory, this positioning stage is modeled as a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) electromechanical system with six inputs (currents) and six outputs (displacements). To achieve high-precision positioning capability, discrete-time integrator-augmented linear-quadratic-regulator (LQR) and reduced-order linearquadratic-Gaussian (LQG) control methodologies are applied. Digital multivariable controllers are designed and implemented on the positioning system, and experimental results are also presented in this paper to demonstrate the stage's dynamic performance.

  • For the acceleration and brake systems of an autonomous vehicle, the dynamic models from acceleration (brake) pedal input to driving(braking) torque at the vehicle wheel are represented by a set of linear transfer functions in this paper. We present an experimental method that can identify these models using a single rectangular pulse response data. Various magnitude of inputs with different running speeds are applied to experimental tests. All the identified models are demonstrated by the measured data. Both acceleration and brake models have been also validated by comparing the velocity of a full vehicle model associated with the proposed models with the measured vehicle velocity.

  • In this paper, we provide the synthesis of non-fragile H$\infty$ output feedback controllers for linear systems with affine parameter uncertainties, and dynamic output feedback controller with structural uncertainty. The sufficient condition of controller existence, the design method of robust and non-fragile H$\infty$ output feedback controller, and the region of controllers which satisfies non-fragility are presented. Using parametric reasoning to understand solutions to systems of differential equations

  • This paper offers an analysis of how students reasoned with the dynamic parameter time to support their mathematical activity and deepen their understandings of mathematical concepts. This mathematical thinking occurred as they participated in a differential equations class before, during, and instruction on solutions to linear systems of differential equations. Students participated in the following identified mathematical practices related to parametric reasoning during this time period: reasoning simultaneously in a qualitative and quantitative manner, reasoning by moving from discrete to continuous imaging of time, and reasoning by imagining the motion. Examples of this reasoning are provided in this report. Implications of this research include the possibility that instructional activities can build on this reasoning to help students learn about the mathematics of change at the middle school, high school, and the university.

  • In this paper, piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions are used to analyze the stability of fuzzy-model-based controller. We represent the nonlinear system using a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, which represent the given nonlinear system by fuzzy inference rules and local linear dynamic models. The proposed stability analysis technique is developed by dividing the whole fuzzy system into the smaller separate fuzry systems to reduce the conservatism. Some necessary and sufficient conditions for the proposed method are obtained. Finally, stability of the closed system with various kinds of controller for TS fuzzy model is checked through the proposed method.
