  • Recently, the End-milling processing is needed the high-precise technique to get a good surface roughness and rapid time in manufacturing of precision machine parts and electronic parts. The optimum surface roughness has an effect on end-milling working condition such as, cutting direction, spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut, and so on. It needs to form the correlation of working conditions and surface roughness. Therefore this study was carried out to presume of surface roughness on end-milling working condition of Al7075 by regression analysis. The results was shown that the coefficient of determination($R^2$) of regression equation had a fine reliability of 87.5% and nonlinear regression equation of surface rough was made by multiple regression analysis.

  • This paper presents an elastic deformation model of a spindle unit (S/U), which takes into account the non-linear properties of high-speed ball bearings (particularly the effect of high rotational speed). For this, a software for the estimation of the S/U elastic deformation properties was developed and intended for use by S/U designers. A computer aided analysis of the model using the developed software was carried out and experiments showed the significant effect of rotational speed, cutting load and bearing axial preload, and showed some new phenomena, from which the criteria for the choice of bearing axial preload is given.

  • Applications of the deep hole drilling process can be found in many industries ranging from large aerospace manufacturer to small tool and die shop. Deep hole drilling process with small diameter generally requires high quality and accuracy. But problems which may arise or result from the deep hole drilling process include drill breakage, the generation of a finished part surface which does not satisfy required quality, and process instability. To guaranty the required machining quality and accuracy, it is important to understand and improve the deep hole drilling process. In this study, deep hole drilling experiments using tingle edge drill with small diameter under 2mm have been carried out for difficult to cut materials such as C42CrMo4 and C45pb and the experimental results were analyzed. Feed force and torque versus feed showed linear relationship in both materials. The feed force and torque are decreased as cutting speed is increased but the trends are not uniform in C42CrMo4.

  • A micro end mill is one of the precise tools used in machining ultra-precision products such as microchannel and micropatterned mold. To achieve the required precision of these products, several studies investigated the cutting force, burr formation, and burr generation mechanism of micro end mills; however, there are few studies on the alignment of micro tools, which is the foundation of machining. Hence, in this investigation, relation expressions were derived to determine the relation between the misalignment parameters and the machining accuracy. At the same time, the effect of the machining parameters was analyzed using a multiple linear regression analysis and the analysis of variance. The results indicate that the tilting angle of a micro tool has more influence on the machining accuracy than other parameters.

  • We report an ultra-precision lathe designed to machine micron-scale features on a large-area roll mold. The lathe can machine rolls up to 600 mm in diameter and 2,500 mm in length. All axes use hydrostatic oil bearings to exploit the high-precision, stiffness, and damping characteristics. The headstock spindle and rotary tooling table are driven by frameless direct drive motors, while coreless linear motors are used for the two linear axes. Finite element method modeling reveals that the effects of structural deformation on the machining accuracy are less than $1{\mu}m$. The results of thermal testing show that the maximum temperature rise at the spindle outer surface is approximately $0.5^{\circ}C$. Finally, performance evaluations of the error motion, micro-positioning capability, and fine-pitch machining demonstrate that the lathe is capable of producing optical-quality surfaces with micron-scale patterns with feature sizes as small as $20{\mu}m$ on a large-area roll mold.

  • It depends on the joint configuration, dimensions and constraints on the joint whether the residual stress at the root of single-sided butt weld is tensile or not. Therefore, recommendation is generally made that high R ratio should be used in the fatigue test of this type of joint in order to prevent excessively long life caused by compressive residual stress. in this research, the residual stress profile in butt weld joint was obtained through compliance method, using successive extension of a slot and measurement of the variation of strain during the slot extension. The residual stress profile was firstly assumed to be the linear summation of Legendre polynomials up to 9th order excluding 0th and 1st order. Strain variation on the surface was measured while the slot was being extended by cutting to find out the 8 unknown coefficients of each polynomial tenn. The cut was made by the electric discharge machine. It was concluded that the residual stress near the surface stayed positive, however, it turned into the negative value as soon as it passed through 2 or 3 mm depth. Several fatigue tests were also carried out under zero stress ratio. Test results showed that fatigue life coincides well with the design cuive of butt joint in British Standards, which supports that it is tensile residual stress that exists near the weld root.

It is deeply affecting our lives. In the factory, robots have been working for humans more than several decades (FA, OA), AI doctors are also working in hospitals (Dr. Watson), AI speakers (Giga Genie) and AI assistants (Siri, Bixby, Google Assistant) are working to improve Natural Language Process. Now, in order to understand AI, knowledge of mathematics becomes essential, not a choice. Thus, mathematicians have been given a role in explaining such mathematics that make these things possible behind AI. Therefore, the authors wrote a textbook 'Basic Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence' by arranging the mathematics concepts and tools needed to understand AI and machine learning in one or two semesters, and organized lectures for undergraduate and graduate students of various majors to explore careers in artificial intelligence. • The use of cable tunnels for electric power transmission as well as their construction in difficult conditions such as in subsea terrains and large overburden areas has increased. So, in order to efficiently operate the small diameter shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), the estimation of advance rate and development of a design model is necessary. However, due to limited scope of survey and face mapping, it is very difficult to match the rock mass characteristics and TBM operational data in order to achieve their mutual relationships and to develop an advance rate model. Also, the working mechanism of previously utilized linear cutting machine is slightly different than the real excavation mechanism owing to the penetration of a number of disc cutters taking place at the same time in the rock mass in conjunction with rotation of the cutterhead. So, in order to suggest the advance rate and machine design models for small diameter TBMs, an EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) shield TBM having 3.54 m diameter cutterhead was manufactured and 19 cases of full-scale tunneling tests were performed each in 87.5 ㎥ volume of artificial rock mass. The relationships between advance rate and machine data were effectively analyzed by performing the tests in homogeneous rock mass with 70 MPa uniaxial compressive strength according to the TBM operational parameters such as thrust force and RPM of cutterhead. The utilization of the recorded penetration depth and torque values in the development of models is more accurate and realistic since they were derived through real excavation mechanism. The relationships between normal force on single disc cutter and penetration depth as well as between normal force and rolling force were suggested in this study. The prediction of advance rate and design of TBM can be performed in rock mass having 70 MPa strength using these relationships. An effort was made to improve the application of the developed model by applying the FPI (Field Penetration Index) concept which can overcome the limitation of 100% RQD (Rock Quality Designation) in artificial rock mass.
