  • This paper describes an speaker-adaptive speech recognition system which make a reliable recognition of speech signal for new speakers. In the Proposed method, an speech spectrum of new speaker is adapted to the reference speech spectrum by using Parameters of a 1st linear transformation network at the front of phoneme classification neural network. And the recognition system is based on semicontinuous HMM(hidden markov model) which use the multilayer perceptron as a fuzzy vector quantizer. The experiments on the isolated word recognition are performed to show the recognition rate of the recognition system. In the case of speaker adaptation recognition, the recognition rate show significant improvement for the unadapted recognition system.

  • To make use of surveying data obtained from different sensors and different techniques in a common reference frame, it is a pre-requite step to register them in a common coordinate system. For this purpose, we have developed a methodology to register IKONOS-2 Satellite Imagery using ALS data. To achieve this, conjugate features from these data should be extracted in advance. In the study, linear features are chosen as conjugate features because they can be accurately extracted from man-made structures in urban area, and more easily than point features from ALS data. Then, observation equations are established from similarity measurements of the extracted features. During the process, considering the characteristics of systematic errors in IKONOS-2 satellite imagery, the transformation function were selected and used. In addition, we also analyzed how the number of linear features and their spatial distribution used as control features affect the accuracy of registration. Finally, the results were evaluated statistically and the results clearly demonstrated that the proposed algorithms are appropriate to register these data.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks have extensively been utilized for ambient data collection from simple linear structures to dense tiered deployments. Issues related to optimal resource allocation still persist for simplistic deployments including linear and hierarchical networks. In this work, we investigate the case of dimensioning parameters for linear and tiered wireless sensor network deployments with notion of providing extended lifetime and reliable data delivery over extensive infrastructures. We provide a single consolidated reference for selection of intrinsic sensor network parameters like number of required nodes for deployment over specified area, network operational lifetime, data aggregation requirements, energy dissipation concerns and communication channel related signal reliability. The dimensioning parameters have been analyzed in a pipeline monitoring scenario using ZigBee communication platform and subsequently referred with analytical models to ensure the dimensioning process is reflected in real world deployment with minimum resource consumption and best network connectivity. Concerns over data aggregation and routing delay minimization have been discussed with possible solutions. Finally, we propose a node placement strategy based on a dynamic programming model for achieving reliable received signals and consistent application in structural health monitoring with multi hop and long distance connectivity.

  • SRG (Switched Reluctance Generator) have many advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, high-speed capability and robustness compared with characteristics of other machines. However, the control methods that have been adopted for SRGs are complicated. This paper proposes a simple control method using PID controller that only controls turn-off angles while keeping turn-on angles of SRG constant. The linear characteristics between the generated current and the turn-off angle can be used to control the turn-off angle for load variations. Since the reference current for generation can be produced from an error between the reference and the real voltage, it can be controlled to keep the output voltage constant. The proposed control method enhances the robustness of this system and simplifies the hardware and software by using only the voltage and speed sensors. The proposed method is verified by experimental results.

  • This paper describes the development of a speaker-dependent isolated word recognizer as applied to voice dialing in a car noise environment. for this purpose, several methods to improve performance under such condition are evaluated using database collected in a small car moving at 100km/h The main features of the recognizer are as follow: The endpoint detection error can be reduced by using the magnitude of the signal which is inverse filtered by the AR model of the background noise, and it can be compensated by using variants of the DTW algorithm. To remove the noise, an autocorrelation subtraction method is used with the constraint that residual energy obtainable by linear predictive analysis should be positive. By using the noise rubust distance measure, distortion of the feature vector is minimized. The speech recognizer is implemented using the Motorola DSP56001(24-bit general purpose digital signal processor). The recognition database is composed of 50 Korean names spoken by 3 male speakers. The recognition error rate of the system is reduced to 4.3% using a single reference pattern for each word and 1.5% using 2 reference patterns for each word.

  • In this paper, a new model, which is a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, for mobile robot is presented. A controller, consisting of two loops the one of which is the inner state feedback loop designed for stability and the outer loop is a PI controller designed for tracking the reference input, is suggested. Because the robot dynamics is nonlinear, it requires the controller to be insensitive to the nonlinear term. To achieve this objective, the model is developed by well known T-S fuzzy model. The design algorithm of inner state-feedback loop is regional pole-placement. In this paper, regions, for which poles of the inner state feedback loop are lie in, are formulated by LMI's. By solving these LMI's, we can obtain the state feedback gains for T-S fuzzy system. And this paper shows that the PI controller is equivalent to the state feedback and the cost function for reference tracking is equivalent to the LQ(linear quadratic) cost. By using these properties, it is also shown in this paper that the PI controller can be obtained by solving the LQ problem.

  • DSTATCOM is active filter that reduces nonlinear and unbalanced currents. Researches about DSTATCOM are mainly divided two parts, one is the reference value calculation of compensation current depending on the calculation of the load-side average active power and dc-link capacitor average voltage, the other part is actual current control depending on the reference value of compensation current. This paper proposes a calculation of dc-link capacitor average voltage ripple voltage extraction instead of conventional method using LPF. The utility of the proposed algorithm is verified through the theoretical analysis and the experiment under unbalance loads and non-linear load.

  • This paper presents new attitude error differential equations to define attitude errors as the rotation vector for inertial navigation systems. Attitude errors are defined with the rotation vector between the reference coordinate frame and the platform coordinate frame, and Platform dynamics to the reference coordinate frame due to platform torque command errors are defined. Using these concepts for attitude error definition and platform dynamics, we have derived attitude error differential equations expressed in original nonlinear form for GINS and SDINS and showed that these are equivalent to attitude error differential equations expressed in known linear form. The relation between attitude errors defined by the rotation vector and attitude errors defined by quaternion is clearly presented as well.

  • In this paper, a new variable structure controller is designed for the tracker control of uncertain general plants so that the output of plants can controlled to a given arbitrary point in state space. By using the error between the steady state value of the output and the given reference, the sliding surface is defined, in advance, the surface from an initial state to the given reference without any reaching phase. A corresponding control input to satisfy the existence condition of the sliding mode is suggested to control the output on the predefined surface. Therefore the output controlled by the proposed controller is completely robust and identical to that of the sliding surface. Through an example, the usefulness is verified.

  • This paper is concerned with the development and evaluation of the camera calibration method for a real-time head tracking system. Tracking of head movements is important in the design of an eye-controlled human/computer interface and the area of virtual environment. We proposed a video-based head tracking system. A camera was mounted on the subject's head and it took the front view containing eight 3-dimensional reference points(passive retr0-reflecting markers) fixed at the known position(computer monitor). The reference points were captured by image processing board. These points were used to calculate the position (3-dimensional) and orientation of the camera. A suitable camera calibration method for providing accurate extrinsic camera parameters was proposed. The method has three steps. In the first step, the image center was calibrated using the method of varying focal length. In the second step, the focal length and the scale factor were calibrated from the Direct Linear Transformation (DLT) matrix obtained from the known position and orientation of the camera. In the third step, the position and orientation of the camera was calculated from the DLT matrix, using the calibrated intrinsic camera parameters. Experimental results showed that the average error of camera positions (3- dimensional) is about $0.53^{\circ}C$, the angular errors of camera orientations are less than $0.55^{\circ}C$and the data aquisition rate is about 10Hz. The results of this study can be applied to the tracking of head movements related to the eye-controlled human/computer interface and the virtual environment.
