  • [ $CD4^+CD25^+$ ] regulatory T cells (Tregs) expressing the lineage-specific marker Foxp3 represent an important regulatory T cell that is essential for maintaining peripheral tolerance. Although it was believed that Treg development is solely dependent on the thymus, accumulating evidence demonstrates that Tregs can also be induced in the periphery. Considering the various origins of peripherally developed $CD4^+CD25^+Foxp3^+$ regulatory T cells, it seems likely that multiple factors are involved in the peripheral generation of Tregs.

  • This article is concerned with threshold modeling of the bifurcating autoregressive model (BAR) originally suggested by Cowan and Staudte (1986) for tree structured data of cell lineage study where each individual $(X_t)$ gives rise to two off-spring $(X_{2t},\;X_{2t+1})$ in the next generation. The triplet $(X_t,\;X_{2t},\;X_{2t+1})$ refers to mother-daughter relationship. In this paper we propose a threshold model incorporating the difference of 'fertility' of the mother for the first and second off-springs, and thereby extending BAR to threshold-BAR (TBAR, for short). We derive a sufficient condition of stationarity for the suggested TBAR model. Also various inferential methods such as least squares (LS), maximum likelihood (ML) and quasi-likelihood (QL) methods are discussed and relevant limiting distributions are obtained.

  • Dislocation behavior in the ZnSe crystal grown by seeded vapor transport was investigated. Etch pit shape with the ZnSe plane and dislocation arrangement were shown. Also the variation of the dislocation density in the crystal was disclosed. The dislocation density along the lateral growth direction was not changed but the dislocation density along the vertical growth direction was reduced as the crystal grew. The average dislocation density of the grown crystal was $4{\times}10^4 /\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • The types of glia in the central nervous system (CNS) of the Drosophila embryo include longitudinal glia (LG), cell body glia (CBG), and peripheral glia (PG). Transcription factors, such as glial cell missing and reverse polarity, are well-established general glial cell markers. Only a few glial cell-specific markers have been identified in the Drosophila embryonic CNS, thus far. In the present study, we employed the glial cell-specific markers for LG (vir-1/CG5453 and CG31235), CBG (fabp/CG6783 and CG11902), and PG (CG2310 and moody/CG4322), and comprehensively analyzed their expression patterns, during the embryonic CNS development. Our study validated the specificity of a set of glial markers, and further revealed their spatio-temporal expression patterns, which will aid in the understanding of the developmental lineage, and investigating their role in the development and homeostasis of the Drosophila CNS in vivo.

  • Anti-CALLA Fab-RTA immunotoxins were constructed using two crosslinking agent, SMPT and SMCC, to generate a disulfide and a thioether bridge between Fab fragment of K269-65 MoAb and RTA toxin moieties, respectively. These immunotoxins were selectively immunoreative with CALLA$\^$+/ B-lineage Daudi cells. SMPT and SMCC mediated RTA immunotoxins were prepared with 49% and 53% of the RTA conjugation yields, respectively. SDS-PAGE analysis show that immunotoxins were constructed with major Fab-1 RTA (76kda), minor Fab-2RTA (106kda) and Fab-3RTA (136kda) compositions. The breakdown rates of immunotoxins were determined in the presence of glutathione by measuring the amount of reduced immunotoxins using size-exclusion HPLC. The SMCC immunotoxins were more resistant to the glutathione than SMPT immunotoxins. But, our data showed that the SMPT mediated disulfide bonded immunotoxins were much more active than the SMCC mediated thioether bonded immunotoxins to kill the target cells in vitro.

  • Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumours (ATRTs) are the most common malignant central nervous system tumours in children ${\leq}1year$ of age and represent approximately 1-2% of all pediatric brain tumours. ATRT is a primarily monogenic disease characterized by the bi-allelic loss of the SMARCB1 gene, which encodes the hSNF5 subunit of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex. Though conventional dose chemotherapy is not effective in most ATRT patients, high dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplant, radiotherapy and/or intrathecal chemotherapy all show significant potential to improve patient survival. Recent epigenetic and transcriptional studies highlight three subgroups of ATRT, each with distinct clinical and molecular characteristics with corresponding therapeutic sensitivities, including epigenetic targeting, and inhibition of tyrosine kinases or growth/lineage specific pathways.

  • To understand the literacy and library users of Korean society, various historical data and statistics were gathered and analyzed. The findings are: 1) lineage, commerce, and religion in ancient Korean society and the social class in Koryo and Lee Dynasty were related to the literacy, and 2) the size of collection, increase of books, library budgets and the policy of national library are also somewhat related to the library hem at present.

  • The $L^1$-convergence of Fourier series problems through additional assumptions for Fourier coefficients were presented by W. H. Young in 1913. We say that they are the classical results. Using modified trigonometric series is the convenience method to study the $L^1$-convergence of Fourier series problems. they are called the neoclassical results. This study concerns with the $L^1$-convergence of Fourier series. We introduce the classical and neoclassical results of $L^1$-convergence sequentially. In particular, we investigate $L^1$-convergence results focused on the results of Bhatia's studies. In conclusion, we present the research minor lineage of Bhatia's studies and compare the classes of $L^1$-convergence mutually.

  • Data provenance is the background knowledge that enables a piece of data to be interpreted and used correctly within context. The importance of tracking provenance is widely recognized, as witnessed by significant research in various areas including e-science, homeland security, and data warehousing and business intelligence. In order to further advance the research on data provenance, however, one must first understand the research that has been conducted to date and identify specific topics that merit further investigation. In this work, we develop a framework based on semiotics theory to assist in analyzing and comparing existing provenance research at the conceptual level. We provide a detailed review of data provenance research and compare and contrast the research based on d semiotics framework. We conclude with an identification of challenges that will drive future research in this field.
