  • This paper presents a vision based tire mold inspection system where mold defects are inspected and the sizes of specific parts of the mold are measured. There are a lot of challenging issues as letters and pictures of intaglio are engraved on a bright surface of the tire mold. To solve the issues, we carefully selected a line-scan camera and a line light. In addition, we used PLC to control the mechanical parts. The developed system provides inspection of misspelled and deformed letters as well as a variety of the functions such as size measurement of engraved regions and inspection report file creation.

  • Optical Color Corescanner firstly developed by DMT-GeoTec, Germany and further upgraded through the Korea-Germany joint project is capable of duplicating the core surfaces. The tool uses a digital CCD line camera. As the core is rotated by an electric motor, the camera scans the uppermost line, everytime with a circumferential increment of up to 0.05mm(20pixels/mm) and hence a complete 360$^{\circ}$ unwrapped image(core image) is produced. This paper illustrated diverse research benefits of such core images from several test sites in our country. All scanned images could be stored as a data-base one and easily used with software facilities \circled1 to evaluate a percental distribution of mineral components or grain size etc. not only for the rock classification but also for e.g. the assessment of building stones, \circled2 to study potential reservoirs as a hydrocarbon indicator using ultraviolet fluorescence reflection from cores, \circled3 to facilitate the qualitative and quantitative analysis of fractures, \circled4 to evaluate the fractures and thin bedded reservoirs using spectral color responses. Based on abundant scanning experiments, it would seem that this imaging work should lead to reflecting the future trend in underground survey toward a more comprehensive understanding of the properties and behaviors of in situ rocks.

  • A film scanner is one of the input devices for ac acquiring high resolution and high qualify of digital images from the existing optical film. Recently the demand of film scanners have risen for experts of image printing and editing fields. However, due to the nonlinear characteristic of light source and sensor, colors of the original film image do not correspond to the colors of the scanned image. Therefore color correction for the scanned digital image is essential in film scanner. In this paper, neural network method is applied for the color correction to CIE L/sup *//a/sup *//b/sup */ color model data converted from RGB color model data. Also a film scanner hardware with 12 bit color resolution for each R, G, B and 2400 dpi is implemented by using the TMS320C32 DSP chip and high resolution line sensor. An experimental result shows that the average color correction rate is 79.8%, which is an improvement of 43.5% than our previous method, polygonal regression method.

  • Today, the demand of image acquisition systems grows as the multimedia applications go on increasing greatly. Among the systems, film scanner is one of the systems, which can acquire high quality and high resolution images. However due to the nonlinear characteristic of the light source and sensor, colors of the original film image do not correspond to the colors of the scanned image. Therefore color correction mr the scanned digital image is essential in the film scanner. In this paper, polynomial regression method is applied for the color correction to CIE $L^{*}$ $a^{*}$ $b^{*}$ color model data converted from RGB color model data. A1so a film scanner hardware with 12 bit color resolution for each R, G, B and 2400 dpi was implemented by using TMS320C32 DSP chip and high resolution line sensor. An experimental result shows that the average color difference ($\Delta$ $E^{*}$$_{ab}$ ) is reduced from13.48 to 8.46.6.6.6.6.

  • In this paper, we say the shading correction system supporting multi-resolution for camera. The shading effect is caused by non-uniform illumination, non-uniform camera sensitivity, or even dirt and dust on glass (lens) surfaces. In general this shading effect is undesirable [1]. Eliminating it is frequently necessary for subsequent processing and especially when quantitative microscopy is the fine goal. The proposed system is available on thirty nine kinds of image resolutions scanned by interlaced and progressive type. Moreover, the system is using various continuous quadratic equations instead of using the piece-wise linear curve which is composed of multiple line segments. Finally, the system could correct the correct effect without discontinuity in any image resolution. The proposed system is also experimentally demonstrated with Xilinx Virtex FPGA XCV2000E- 6BG5560 and the TV set.

  • A current TV out format is quite different from that of HDTV or PC monitor in encoding techniques. In other words, a conventional analog TV uses interlaced display while HDTV or PC monitor uses Non-interlaced / Progressive-scanned display. In order to encode image signals coming from devices that takes interlaced display format for progressive scanned display, a hardware logic in which scanning and interpolation algorithms are implemented is necessary. The ELA(Edge-Based Line Average) algorithm have been widely used because it provided good characteristics. In this study, the ADI(Adaptive De-interlacing Interpolation) algorithm using to improve the ELA algorithm which shows low quality in vertical edge detections and low efficiency of horizontal edge lines. With the De-interlacing ASIC chip that converts the interlaced Digital YUV to De-interlaced Digital RGB is designed. The VHDL is used for chip design.

  • Digital comic images are one of popular contents on the Internet. Usually, they are scanned from comic books by digital scanners. Without post-processing, they may have different sizes, skews and margins other than contents at the boundary. To normalize the size of their contents without the skews and margins is an important step in comic image analysis and application such as content-based comic image retrieval system. In this paper, we propose a method to detect a box frame in comic images by extracting of line segments using the gradient Radon transform. The box frame in comic images is the maximum rectangle which consists of contents without margins. We use the detected box frame to normalize the size of comic images and to make them no skew. In addition, the proposed method is implemented by OpenCL to speed up the detection of the line segments. Experimental results show that our proposed method effectively detects the box frame in comic images.

The shading effect is caused by non-uniform illumination, non-uniform camera sensitivity, or even dirt and dust on glass (lens) surfaces. In general this shading effect is undesirable [1-3]. Eliminating it is frequently necessary for subsequent processing and especially when quantitative microscopy is the fine goal. The proposed system is available on thirty nine kinds of image resolutions scanned by interlaced and progressive type. Moreover, the system is using forty kinds of continuous quadratic equations instead of using the piece-wise linear curve which is composed of multiple line segments. Finally, the system could correct the shading effect without discontinuity in any image resolution. The proposed system is implemented in VLSI with cell library based on Hynix $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • This papre presents the RDM algorithm for composition of bit. After this, we propose a digital signature scheme for facsimile document using RDM algorithm. We modify the even-odd feature in distance of changing pel between coding line and multiple reference line which have been scanned before, and run-length in coding line. The time to take in signature is reduced by spreading of signature. Non-repudiation in origin, the 3rd condition of digital signature is realized by proposed digital signature scheme. The transmitter embeds the signature secretly and tensfers it, and the receiver makes a check of any forgery on the signature and the document. This scheme is compatible with the ITU-T.4(G3 or G4 facsimile standard). The total amount of data transmitted and the quality of image are about the same to that of the original document, thus a third party does not notics signature embeded on the document.

  • Today, there is a wide variety of digital contents on the Internet. Especially, comic images are one of popular digital contents. Most of them are scanned from comic books by digital scanners, but they were not normalized in sense of their size, skew and boundary margin. The normalization is very important step in comic image analysis. It can be achieved by finding out-boundary rectangles in comic images. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting the out-boundary rectangle using the gradient Radon transform in comic images. We applied the Radon transform using image gradients to extract line segments which are the out-boundary rectangle sides' candidates in comic images. The final out-boundary rectangle can be detected by local histogram and the candidate line segments. Experimental results show that our proposed method effectively detect the out-boundary rectangle in comic images.
