An RFID Tag Anti-Collision Protocol for Port Logistics Systems (항만 물류 시스템을 위한 RFID 태그 충돌 방지 프로토콜)

  • RFID technology is applied to port logistics applications since it monitors objects wirelessly without line of sight and constructs ubiquitous system with low cost. Changes of stock status in the warehouse environment make the technology more important for managing such frequent storing and un-storing. Although the RFID has beneficial characteristics of low cost and low complexity, simultaneous responses of RFID tags cause tag identification collision due to absence of elaborate medium access control scheme. Several algorithms have been proposed to overcome the tag collision problem. However, it is difficult to adopt the methods to the logistics systems that has varying loads since there was no consideration on RFID tag's mobility. Therefore, we propose an efficient RFID tag anti-collision protocol, and simulation results demonstrate performance improvement by using the proposed scheme.

Performance Evaluation of Channel Shortening Time Domain Equalizer in Wireless LAN Environment (무선랜 환경에서 채널 단축 시간영역 등화기의 성능평가)

  • In this paper, we consider an OFDM receiver algorithm design for IEEE 802.11a/p system, which targeting large coverage area while keeping the transmission format unchanged. Particularly, taking into account the inter-symbol interference(ISI) and inter-carrier interference(ICI) that can be induced with large RMS delay spread, we employ channel shortening time-domain equalizer(TEQ) and evaluate the receiver performance in terms of SINR and packet error rate(PER). The preamble defined in IEEE802.11a/p is used to estimated the initial equalizer tap coefficients. Primary purpose of the paper is to give an answer to the question, though partially, whether or not 16-QAM constellation can be used in none line of sight environment at the boundary of a large coverage area. To this end, we first analyze the required TEQ parameters for the target channel environment and then perform simulation for PER performance evaluation in a generic frequency selective fading channel with exponential power-delay profile.

  • In this paper, we propose a path generation and tracking algorithm of an unmanned air vehicle in a two-dimensional plane given the initial and final points. The path generation algorithm using the Dubins curve proposed in this work has the advantage that it can be applied in real time to an unmanned air vehicle. The path tracking algorithm is an algorithm similar to the line-of-sight induction algorithm. In order to efficiently control the direction angle, a gain related to the look ahead distance concept is introduced. Most of UAVs have the limited maximum curvature due to the structural constraints. A numerical simulation is conducted to follow the path generated by the sliding mode controller considering the angular velocity limit. The path generation and tracking performance is verified by comparing the suggested controller with conventional control techniques.

  • In this paper, we studied on-board antenna(primary link/secondary link/satellite link) used in UAV Data-link system. As a result, it is ideal to configure the Data-link as a triple link to secure the flight stability of the UAV, but the communication link should be configured according to the operating platform. As a result of overseas R&D trend analysis, the on-board Data-link antenna is installed and operated in a location where it is easy to secure LOS. The primary link consists of a directional antenna for basic operation and an omni-directional antenna for emergency operation. The secondary link uses a monopole/dipole antenna in the UHF/C band. Satellite link has been developed to apply phased array antenna to improve UAV operability.

A Study on Basic Modeling Method for MTF Analysis of Observation Satellites (관측위성의 MTF 해석을 위한 기본 모델링 기법 연구)

  • A modulation transfer function(MTF) tree is established to estimate the overall MTF of an observation satellite and to analyze the image performance. Basic MTF models relevant to each MTF tree component are represented as mathematical relationship between optics-structural dynamics, thermal deformation, attitude and dynamic characteristics of a satellite and the effects due to the space environment. The Basic MTF models consist of diffraction limited MTF with central obscuration, aberration, defocus, line-of-sight(LOS) jitter, linear motion, detector integration, and so forth. Performance estimation is demonstrated for a virtual earth-observation satellite in order to validate the constructed modeling method. The proposed models enable the system engineers to calculate the overall system MTF and to determine the crucial design parameters that affect the image performance in the conceptual design phase of an observation satellite.

The Path Loss Prediction in Korean Terrain Environment (한국 지형에서의 무선호출 주파수 대역의 전계강도 예측모델)

  • Path loss prediction method, one of the most essential parts in measuring the service area in mobile telecommunication, has been developed for many years. But, wave propagation depends on many kinds of environmental factors such as frequency, distance, the heights of transmitting and receiving antenna and the terrain status(buildings in large city, hilly terrain, mountain). These are the main reasons that the propagation models developed in foreign environments can not fit into Korean propagation condition. In this paper, therefore, we performed the measurement in Korean terrain environment in pager frequency band after deviding the terrain characteristics into six types. With this measured data, we derived several curves that follows the long-term wave progagation behavior and developed the wave propagftion prediction model which calculates the field strength at any point in the service area. The proposed model estimates the field strength in two categories, LOS(line-of-sight), or non LOS. We applied this model using the digital terrain data base and compared with the measured data. The result shows that the errors were between 3~9dB, which turned out to be practical.

  • Recently, as required wireless communication traffic increase, millimeter wave mobile technologies that can secure broadband spectrum are gaining attention. However, the path loss is high in the millimeter wave channel. Massive MIMO system is being researched in which can complement the path loss by beamforming by equiped large-scale antenna at the base station. While legacy beamforming techniques have analog and digital methods, practical difficulties exist for application to massive MIMO systems in terms of system complexity and cost. Therefore, this paper studies a hybrid beamforming scheme for massive MIMO system in the millimeter wave band. Also this paper considers spatial multiplexing scheme to serve multi-users with multiple received antennas. Gains of the beamforming and the spatial multiplexing schemes are evaluated by analyzing the spectral efficiency.

  • The communication system using multiple antennas improves link reliability or system capacity using tx & rx diversity, spatial multiplexing, and beamforming technique with services and characteristics of channel environment. This system is sensitive to spatial channel environment. In case of diversity, the lower correlation among links as a LoS environment, the better performance is acquired. In practical channel environment, However, there is high correlation, and there is high performance difference between ideal case and practical case. On the contrary, in case of beamforming, the higher correlation among links, the better performance is acquired. If we use the spatial adaptive transmission technique with spatial channel characteristics, we can get the system that maintains minimum link reliability and guarantees the overall system performance. In this paper, we propose the adaptive transmission and reception technique which use diversity or beamforming technique with channel characteristics.

  • In order to perform scientific evaluation of dredge results, it is needed to construct the system which is able to manage and evaluate the work process by monitoring in real-time the dredge process such as dredge ship position, dredge depth and dredge volume. This research aims to develop the hydrographic dredge surveying system adding water depth measurement method to both precise positioning and navigation methods using GPS, which allows a high rate of measurement and long distances between the control point and dredging points, operate in all weather conditions, and does not require line of sight to points. We constructed Beacon DGPS-based hydrographic dredger guidance and position management system and developed the operation program which makes the dredge operation perform as monitoring work situation in real-time. It is expected that this developed system will be able to contributes to reducing ultimately the cost in hydrographic dredging or hydrographic construction industries.

  • Multiple wireless devices are being widely deployed in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services on the road to establish end-to-end connection between vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) networks. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) play an important role in supporting V2V and V2I communications (also called V2X communications) in a variety of urban environments with distinct topological characteristics. In fact, obstacles such as big buildings, moving vehicles, trees, advertisement boards, traffic lights, etc. may block the radio signals in V2X communications. Their impact has been neglected in VANET research. In this paper, we present a realistic and efficient radio propagation model to handle different sizes of static and moving obstacles for V2X communications. In the proposed model, buildings and large moving vehicles are modeled as static and moving obstacles, and taken into account their impact on the packet reception rate, Line-of-sight (LOS) obstruction, and received signal power. We use unsymmetrical city map which has many dead-end roads and open faces. Each dead-end road and open faces are joined to the nearest edge making a polygon to model realistic obstacles. The simulation results of proposed model demonstrates better performance compared to some existing models, that shows proposed model can reflect more realistic simulation environments.
