  • Recently, the fault current has increased to exceed the rated breaking capacity of protective device due to the growth of the power demand on the power system where is changed into the loop-, mesh-, network grid. To limit fault current, the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is announced with various methods. In many researches, the current limiting effect with the SFCL has been analyzed considering the rated breaking capacity of the CB with one fault condition. However, the power system has various short circuit and operation conditions. In order to select the capacity of the SFCL with reclosing operation and burden of the fault current on the protective device, the characteristics of the power system were investigated. Through the analysis, the evaluation method of the current rate was improved.

A Current Sharing Circuit for the Parallel Inverter

  • The parallel inverter is popularly used because of its fault-tolerance capability, high-current outputs at constant voltages and system modularity. The conventional parallel inverter usually employs active and reactive power control of frequency and voltage droop control. However, these approaches have the disadvantages that the response time of parallel inverter control is slow against load and system parameter variation to calculate active, reactive power, frequency and voltage. This paper describes a novel control scheme for power equalization in parallel-connected inverter. The proposed scheme has a fast power balance control response, a simplicity of implementation, and inherent peak current limiting capability since it employees an instantaneous current/voltage control with output voltage and current balance and output voltage regulation. A design procedure for the proposed parallel inverter controller is presented. Furthermore, the proposed control scheme is verified through the experiment in various cases such as the system parameter variation, the control parameter variation and the nonlinear load condition.

  • Communication based train control system is applied regularly worldwide. And this system may be used in domestic soon. Communication based train control system does not depend on conventional track circuit. Therefore, position and distance control of train to prevent collision with leading train may become important safety factor. This paper developed collision avoidance algorithm to control trains of several units efficiently for this. In developing a collision avoidance algorithm, it is desirable to avoid the need for additional system. Additional system restricts the development of the algorithm by limiting the effectiveness of the algorithm to only those areas where the additional system can be afforded and has been installed.

  • Surface science is intrinsically related to the performance of solar cells. In solar cells the generation and collection of charge carriers determines their efficiency. Effective transport of charge carriers across interfaces and minimization of their recombination at surfaces and interfaces is of utmost importance. Thus, the chemistry at the surfaces and interfaces of these devices must be determined, and related to their performance. In this talk we will discuss the role of two important interfaces, First, the role of surface passivation is very important in limiting the rate of carrier of recombination. Here we will combine x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the surface of a Si device with electrical measurements to ascertain what factors determine the quality of a solar cell passivation. In addition, the quality of the heterojunction interface in a ZnSe/CdTe solar cell affects the output voltage of this device. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy gives some insight into the composition of the interface, while ultraviolet photoemission yields the relative energy of the two materials' valence bands at the junction, which controls the open circuit voltage of the solar cell. The relative energies of ZnSe and CdTe at the interface is directly affected by the material quality of the interface through processing.

  • We performed unsymmetrical analysis of a single line-to-ground fault in a three-phase system. The current limiting elements were meander type YBCO stripes coated with Au shunt. When the fault occurred, short circuit currents were effectively limited within 1-2 msec after fault instant. The unsymmetrical rate of fault phase was distributed from 6.4 to 1.4 and most of the fault current flowed in the grounding line due to its direct grounding system.

  • We have performed an EMTDC simulation for the current limiting effects of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL). The fault currents in the 154 kV transmission line between the arbitrary S1 and S2 substations increased up to 39 kA during the single and double line-to-ground faults, respectively. The SFCL in the transmission line is sufficient.

  • Ultra-high-speed analog and digital ICs (integrated circuits) fur 10Gbit/sec optical communication systems have been designed, fabricated and analyzed in this research. These circuits, which are laser diode (LD) driver, pre-amplifier, automatic gain controlled (AGC) amplifier, limiting amplifier and decision circuit, have been implemented with AIGaAs/GaAs heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs). The optimized AIGaAs/GaAs HBTs for the 10Gbps circuits in this work showed the cutoff and maximum oscillation frequencies of 65㎓ and 53㎓, respectively. It is demonstrated in this paper that the 10Gbps optical communication system can be realized with the ICs designed and fabricated using AlGaAs/GaAs HBTs.

  • 한류형 전력퓨즈는 계통의 단락사고로 고장 전류가 흐를 때 퓨즈내부에서 발생하는 저항에 의해 고장전류를 회로 고유의 단락전류보다 아주 적은 값으로 제한하고 최소 시간내에 차단하여 회로를 보호하므로 계통기기의 단락용량를 최소한으로 감소시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 한류형 전력퓨즈의 단락전류 차단성능 평가를 위해 동작책무에 따른 차단성능을 규명하고자 단락발전기를 사용하여 단락전류차단시험을 실시하고 그 결과를 제시하였으며, 또한 차단과정에 따른 스트레스들이 단락시험 시 차단성능에 미치는 영향을 다루고 있다.

  • We have performed an EMTDC simulation for the current limiting effects of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) for the 154 kV transmission line between the Gaepo and Sungnam substations. The fault current increased up to 39 kA during an artificial ground fault. The SFCL with 100 ${\Omega}$ impedance after quench limited the current to 15 kA within a half cycle. This limited current is well below the upper limit of a circuit breaker, suggesting that the impedance of the SFCL in the transmission line is sufficient.

  • Design & Operation of power system for meeting increase of electric power demand is becoming more difficult and complex. One of reasons is increase of fault current. As one of the most effective methods for suppressing the fault current, installation of SFCL is expected. This paper describes a method of fault analyses of power system with SFCLs, and also discusses determination of specification of SFCLs, effects of limiting the fault current due to SFCLs by use of the model system of two - bus electric power system with parallel circuit model transmission line. Also, describes the definition of six specific parameters of SFCL for power system application & a proposal of design method of specific parameter of a resistance type SFCL in overhead transmission lines considering operation of protective relays.
