Now that the development of autonomous driving is progressing, LiDAR has become an indispensable element. However, LiDAR is a device that uses lasers, and laser side effects may occur. One of them is the much-talked-about eye-safety, and developers have been satisfying this through laser characteristics and operation methods. But eye-safety is just one of the problems lasers pose. For example, irradiating a laser with a specific energy level or higher in a dusty environment can cause deterioration of the dust particles, leading to a sudden explosion. For this reason, the dust ignition proof regulations clearly state that "a source with a pulse period of less than 5 seconds is considered a continuous light source, and the average energy does not exceed 5 mJ/mm 2 or 35 mW" [2]. Energy of output optical power is limited by the law. In this way, the manufacturer cannot define the usage environment of the LiDAR, and the development of a LiDAR that can be used in such an environment can increase the ripple effect in terms of use in application fields using the LiDAR. In this paper, we develop a LiDAR with low optical power that can be used in environments where high power lasers can cause problems, evaluate its performance. Also, we discuss and present one of the directions for the development of LiDAR with laser power limited by dust ignition proof regulations.
The use of satellite remote sensing in maritime safety and security can aid in the detection of illegal fishing activities and provide more efficient use of limited aircraft or patrol craft resources. In the area of vessel traffic monitoring for commercial vessels, Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) which use the ground-based radar system have some difficulties in detecting moving ships due to the limited detection range. A virtual vessel traffic control system is introduced to contribute to prevent a marine accident such as collision and stranding from happening. Existing VTS has its limit. The virtual vessel traffic control system consists of both data acquisition by satellite remote sensing and a simulation of traffic environment stress based on the satellite data, remotely sensed data. And it could be used to provide timely and detailed information about the marine safety, including the location, speed and direction of ships, and help us operate vessels safely and efficiently. If environmental stress values are simulated for the ship information derived from satellite data, proper actions can be taken to prevent accidents. Since optical sensor has a high spatial resolution, JERS satellite data are used to track ships and extract their information. We present an algorithm of automatic identification of ship size and velocity. This paper lastly introduce the field testing results of ship detection by RADARSAT SAR imagery, and propose a new approach for a Vessel Monitoring System(VMS), including VTS, and SAR combination service.
In this paper, we investigate the problem of power allocation in a heterogeneous network that is composed of a pair of cognitive users (CUs) and an infrastructure-based primary network. Since CUs have only limited effective spectrum-sensing ability and primary users (PUs) are not active all the time in all locations and licensed bands, we set up a new multi-area model to characterize the heterogeneous network. A novel combined interference-avoidance policy corresponding to different PU-appearance situations is introduced to protect the primary network from unacceptable disturbance and to increase the spectrum secondary-reuse efficiency. We use dual decomposition to transform the original power allocation problem into a two-layer optimization problem. We propose a low-complexity joint power-optimizing method to maximize the transmission rate between CUs, taking into account both the individual power-transmission constraints and the combined interference power constraint of the PUs. Numerical results show that for various values of the system parameters, the proposed joint optimization method with combined PU protection is significantly better than the opportunistic spectrum access mode and other heuristic approaches.
Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) center in diamond has been an emerging versatile tool for quantum sensing applications. Amongst various applications, nano-scale nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) using a single or ensemble NV centers has demonstrated promising results, opening possibility of a single molecule NMR for its chemical structural studies or multi-nuclear spin spectroscopy for quantum information science. However, there is a key challenge, which limited the spectral resolution of NMR detection using NV centers; the interrogation duration for NV-NMR detection technique has been limited by the NV sensor spin lifetime (T1 ~ 3ms), which is orders of magnitude shorter than the coherence times of nuclear spins in bulk liquid samples (T2 ~ 1s) or intrinsic 13C nuclear spins in diamond. Recent studies have shown that quantum memory technique or synchronized readout detection technique can further narrow down the spectral linewidth of NMR signal. In this short review paper, we overview basic concepts of nanoscale NMR using NV centers, and introduce further developments in high spectral resolution NV NMR studies.
The Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSN) consists of sensor nodes equipped with limited sensing coverages, energy resources and communication capacity. Hence, the deployment and movement algorithm is a key issue that needs to be organized in order to improve the sensing efficiency of the networks. In this paper, we use a Queen problem and Knapsack problem to prevent the reiteration phenomenon of sensors, to guarantee improvement sensing coverage and efficiency in the 3D UWSN.

It is significant to construct deterministic measurement matrices with easy hardware implementation, good sensing performance and good cryptographic property for practical compressed sensing (CS) applications. In this paper, a deterministic construction method of bipolar chaotic measurement matrices is presented based on binary sequence family (BSF) and Chebyshev chaotic sequence. The column vectors of these matrices are the sequences of BSF, where 1 is substituted with -1 and 0 is with 1. The proposed matrices, which exploit the pseudo-randomness of Chebyshev sequence, are sensitive to the initial state. The performance of proposed matrices is analyzed from the perspective of coherence. Theoretical analysis and simulation experiments show that the proposed matrices have limited influence on the recovery accuracy in different initial states and they outperform their Gaussian and Bernoulli counterparts in recovery accuracy. The proposed matrices can make the hardware implement easy by means of linear feedback shift register (LFSR) structures and numeric converter, which is conducive to practical CS.

MODIS (MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) onboard the first Earth Observing System (EOS) satellite, Terra, was launched successfully at the end of 1999. The direct broadcast MODIS data has been received and utilized in Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) since february 2001. This study introduces utilizations of this data, especially for the derivation of sea surface temperature (SST). To produce the MODIS SST operationally, we used a simple cloud mask algorithm and MCSST algorithm. By using a simple cloud mask algorithm and by assumption of NOAA daily SST as a true SST, a new set of MCSST coefficients was derived. And we tried to analyze the current NASA's PFSST and new MCSST algorithms by using the collocated buoy observation data. Although the number of collocated data was limited, both algorithms are highly correlated with the buoy SST, but somewhat bigger bias and RMS difference than we expected. And PFSST uniformly underestimated the SST. Through more analyzing the archived and future-received data, we plan to derive better MCSST coefficients and apply to MODIS data of Aqua that is the second EOS satellite. To use the MODIS standard cloud mask algorithm to get better SST coefficients is going to be prepared.
Remote sensing becomes a new and core framework for the atmospheric sciences and closely related areas concerning with the ever-changing global environmental status. However, remote sensing in the Korea Meteorological Society is relatively new, where the first relevant paper is appeared in 1983, as well as is an area with relatively limited number of research groups. Here, we review and summarize some of the key progress in this area within Korea Meteorological Society focusing on the areas of satellite, radar, and ground based remote sensing such as lidar, spectrometer and sun photometer. Overall, the area is shown to have the most significant progress occur along with the acquisition of the key infra structures such as the COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) and S-band radar system led by Korea Meteorological Administration in early 2000. After that, the area has quickly developed into a status playing important roles to lead and support the overall activities in the atmospheric measurements. It is expected that the importance and role of the remote sensing will increase in the coming years.
In recent years, smart clothing had been developed in order to better detect and monitor physical movement of the patient, so that such activities such as location identification and biometric recognition could be done. However, most of the sensing devices of smart clothing were limited to smart sensing sports clothing and the designs did not consider the physical characteristics and the behavior of the wearer. Therefore, this study aimed to create an open protection system by developing a wearable sensing device for health monitoring and location information. For this purpose, this study developed eleven types of wearable sensing design that could be commercially sold and worn by people who needed their biological information to be constantly monitored. The study conducted four tests in order to develop three types of sensing devices for various sensing wears. The purpose of this study was to expand the user rang of smart sensing wears, and provide a foundation for the development of distinctive wearable sensing devices reflecting the user. Furthermore, contribute to the design for the person subject to protection.
