This study was carried out to improve the tobacco field condition and to determine the effect of lime amount and application time on soil pH, yield, and quality of leaf tobacco. Lime was applied to the tobacco field by determined amounts according to different pH level. The changes of soil pH, growth of tobacco, yield, and quality of KF109 and Br21 tobacco were surveyed by time lapse. The target pH value in tobacco field soil can be reached at 6 weeks after lime application, and then the soil pH was lowered slightly after that time. The lime amount needed to reach target pH was decreased 40 % in the same tobacco field after 1 year. Though the initial growth rate of flue-cured tobacco in the field of pH 7.0 was lower than that of conventional tobacco field, the field of pH 7.0 showed the highest yield after the maximum growth stage. The quality of cured leaf tobacco in the field of pH 7.0 applied lime at spring season was slightly lowered compared with that in conventional. This results indicated that the best pH condition in tobacco field for the best tobacco growth was 6.5 and the proper time of lime application was fall season of previous year by application of the whole quantity.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of sulfur containing fertilizers on growth, yield and nutritive quality of soybean as affected by lime application at reclaimed soil. Lime application for neutralization requirements showed the effect of increased grain yield about 32% compared to the non application at newly opened land of red and yellow soil. In case of lime application, the sulfur containing fertilizers combined with super phosphate, ammonium sulfate, and gypsum increased the grain yield by 31%, 11%, and 3%, respectively. When lime was not applied, magnesium carbonate application increased the yield by 47%, super phosphate by 22%, and gypsum by 15%. The protein content of grain was higher at lime application than those of non lime application and was increased by the application of sulfur containing fertilizer. But lipid content was not affected by lime or sulfur application. From the above results obtained it was concluded that sulfur fertilizer effect under lime application was significant when combined with super phosphate or ammonium sulfate application. Magnesium carbonate or super phosphate application was the best combination with sulfur-containing fertilizer.

Monitoring of soil fertility and crop productivity in long-term application of fertilizers is necessary to use fertilizers efficiently. This study was conducted to investigate effects of continuous application of lime for rice cultivation from 1969 to 2014. The treatments were no lime treatments (N, NPK, NPKC, and NPKS) and lime treatments (N+L, NPK+L, NPKC+L, and NPKS+L). The application of lime in addition to N, NPK, and NPKC tended to increase pH, exchangeable Ca, and available $SiO_2$. The input of mean annual $1,170Mg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ of lime increased pH $0.0042yr^{-1}$, $0.0062yr^{-1}$, $0.0127yr^{-1}$, and $0.0041yr^{-1}$ in lime treatments (N+L, NPK+L, NPKS+L, and NPKC+L) compared with no treatments (N, NPK, NPKS, and NPKC), respectively. The mean annual Ca field balance varied from 169 to $561kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$in no treatments, from 871 to $1,263kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in lime treatments, indicating that Ca was accumulated in the soils. The mean annual Ca field balance in silicate fertilizer treatments (NPKS, NPKS+L) were higher than that of other treatments because silicate fertilizer included Ca component. Grain yield of rice had no significant differences between no lime treatments and lime treatments. Thus the application of lime led to changes in soil chemical properties but had no impact on the production of rice.

This study was carried out to investigate the geotechnical characteristics and field application of soil mixed with waste lime. Waste lime used in this study is producted as a by-product in the manufacturing process of making Na$_2$CO$_3$from local chemical factory in Incheon. Currently about 320 milton tons of waste lime are accumulated and annually 100,000 tons are producted. In this study, feasible use of waste lime mixed with granited whathered soil, clay, crushed rock was invesigated through laboratory tests including specific gravity test, sieve analysis, hydrometer analysis, compaction test, CBR test. Field investigations were conducted on the road construction site in Incheon.
Pot experiment was conducted to find out the effect of lime application on yield and chemical composition of burley tobacco in 1986, Lime increased exchangeable calcium and pH of soil, but decreased Al, Fe and Mn concentrations. Yield was increased by lime application, however lime could not be caused to yield increasing in the soil with high calcium contents. Cored leaves of limed Plot contained higher Mg. K, total nitrogen, NO3-nitrogen, water soluble and insoluble ash, alkalinity number of water soluble and insoluble ash, citric and malic acid, but lower Fe, Mn, protein-nitrogen, NH3-nitrogen, nicotine petroleum ether extract, palmitic and linolenic acid concentrations than those of unlined plot. The linoleic acid and volatile neutral constituents of cured leaves were not affected by liming. Lime increased yield, however it did not affect leaf duality in respect to chemical characteristics, suggesting that liming should be necessary for tobacco cultivation.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of lime(0, 250, 500 and 1,000 kg/lOa) and phosphate (0, 17 and 34 kg/lOa) applications on growth and nitrogen fixation of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). The phosphate applications improved(p<0.05) shoot, root and root nodule dry weight of Alfalfa and acetylene reduction activity of alfalfa with increasing levels of phosphate in the soil pH 6.2 at 7 and 12 weeks(ear1y bloom) after sowing, but these were not influnced with lime applications. Total nitrogen content of each part of alfalfa was increased with lime application, but was not significantly different by levels of lime application at 7 weeks after sowing. Application of phosphate did not affect total nitrogen content of each part of alfalfa. Total nitrogen contents of each part of alfalfa were not significantly different between lime and non-lime application at 12 weeks(ear1y bloom) after sowing but were decreased(p<0.05) with phosphate application(p< 0.05). These results suggest that lime(250 kg/lOa) and phosphate(34 kg/lOa) applications are effective for the growth and the nitrogen fixation of alfalfa at the soil pH 6.20.
This experiment was carried out to study the influence on the abscission of tobacco green leaves, yields and quality by the application of lime and boras. The results obtained are as follows; 1. The breakdown of tobacco green leaves occurred from 40 to 80 days after transplanting. According to the progress of growing stage, the breakdown leaves advanced to upper leaves in stalk position. 2. The number of breakdown leaves were increased by application of lime and application of borax have a remarkable effect for the control of breakdown leaves. 3. Application of lime were decreased to total-sugar, lignin and borone but borax were increased to borone and lignin content in leaf tobacco at 50 days after transplanting time. 4. It was found that perfective prevention of breakdown leaves could not deped on annual application of borax. 5. The optimum amount of lime and borax were found that lime was 120kg/10a and borax was 1.2kg/10a for the prevention of breakdown leaves, yields and quality.
PURPOSES : The hydrated lime-modified asphalt, which improves moisture resistance, is normally used for pavements to reduce the number of potholes. However, the method of applying the material properties of the lime-modified asphalt mixture for use in pavements is not covered in the Korean Pavement Research Program (KPRP). The objective of this research is to find a method for the design application of lime-modified asphalt's material properties to the KPRP. METHODS: The section for test design is selected in some conditions which are related to the level of design regarding Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT). To define the application methods of hydrated lime in the KPRP, the models of fatigue, rut and international roughness index (IRI) are determined based on the M-EPDG test results from some earlier research results. Moreover, it is well known that dynamic moduli of the unmodified mixture are not different from those of the lime-modified mixture. RESULTS: The performance results of hydrated lime-modified asphalt pavement were not very much different from those of the unmodified pavement, which meant the limited design regulations regarding fatigue failure, rutting deformation and IRI. CONCLUSIONS: The KPRP uses the weather model from the data for previous 10 years. It implies that the KPRP cannot predict abnormal climate changes accurately. Hence, the predictive weather data regarding the abnormal climate changes are unreliable. Secondly, the KPRP cannot apply the moisture resistance of asphalt mixtures. Therefore, a second level of design study will have to be performed to reflect the influence of moisture. It means that the influence on pavement performance can be changed by the application of hydrated lime in asphalt mixture design.

We investigated the effects of applications of various levels of lime(0, 250, 500 and 1,000 kg/10a) and phosphate (0, 17 and 34 kg/10a) on growth and nitrogen fixation of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Effects of lime and phosphate applications were significantly different on dry matter (DM) weight of each part and on acetylene reduction activity (ARA) of alfalfa at 9 weeks alter sowing (p<.05). The effect of lime on DM of shoot and root was not significantly different at 14 weeks after sowing (early bloom stage), but that of phosphate on DM was significantly improved as increasing of phosphate levels (p<.01). The effects of lime and phosphate on ARA were significantly increased (p<.05). Application of lime and phosphate decreased total nitrogen (TN) content of each part of alfalfa at 9 weeks after sowing (p<.05). The effects of lime application on TN was higher but that of phosphate application on TN was lower than no application of lime or phosphate at 14 weeks after sowing (p<.05).
