  • In this study, flow and structural computational analysis were performed to investigate the structural safety of the lightweight butterfly valve disc designed by topology optimization. After flow analysis, as the opening angle increased, the flow coefficient increased non-linearly and showed a gentle slop. When the opening angle was 12 degree, the cavitation could be predicted. After FE analysis, all FE von-Misses stresses of the lightweight disc were smaller than the yield strength of the material, and all FE maximum deformations were also smaller than the conservative deformation of the previous study. Ultimately, it was confirmed that the structural safety of the lightweight valve disc based on computational analysis is effective.

  • In this study, high volume of industrial by-products including blast furnace slag, recycled aggregate powder and incineration ash have been utilized on the slurry of the foamed lightweight concrete. As to decrease the price of the lightweight foam concrete, mortar based slurry and concrete based slurry has been fixed. As the variation of the foam conduction ratio and aggregates, the foam ratio and compressive strength has been tested. Results showed that using recycled aggregates in the slurry showed better effect than using natural aggregates due to the alkali properties of the recycled aggregates could activate the potential hydraulic properties of the blast furnace slag. Consider about the low price of the recycled aggregates, it could be identified that using recycled aggregates in high volume blast furnace slag blended lightweight concrete showed better compressive strength than natural aggregates.

  • Due to the nature of the existing load, the criteria of assessing the intensity of the lightweight wall's impact resistance has been though of as obscure. The current study, therefore, focuses on the standardized assessment of the impact resistance to the force of the large soft body applying to the lightweight wall. The gypsum board wall showed a low level of the maximum residual displacement. It is, however, required to be careful about the selection of the finishing process since the high level of the maximum displacement is likely to cause harm to finishing materials. Unlike the gypsum board, the ALC block wall displayed a considerable rigidity while showing almost no maximum residual displacement. Even with the low level of the maximum displacement due to the stiffness, the ALC block wall is still likely to be affected by the vibration derived from any impact on the surface, which demands a need for additional study. The future experimental study, accordingly, will focus on the impact of the vibration on finishing materials, consequently leading to the accurate prediction of the possibility of potential damage to the lightweight wall caused by the large soft body.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT), in which resource constrained devices communicate with each other, requires a lightweight security protocol. In this paper, we propose a new message authentication scheme using a hash tree for lightweight message authentication in the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocol. The proposed scheme provides lightweight secure operations compared with those of the DTLS protocol. Besides, it provides more suitable performance than the DTLS protocol for an IoT environment, thanks to the reduced use of message authentication code.

  • This research is focused on the applying of the foaming agent which can make the independent pore in the concrete structure in order to make a lightweight concrete structure. This lightweight foamed concrete can satisfy both the required strength and the mechanical properties as structural members. In addition, anti freezing-thawing properties also required. As a result of the unit volume-weight measurement, when the foaming agent mixed at 0.5% to 1%, the lightweight foamed concrete can be applied for the structural member. Also the density and compressive strength measurement results reveals that it will be suitable as structural member with 21MPa strength, when the density is betweenity8 to 1.9 and foaming agent quantities are 0.5% to 1%. Finally the result of freezing-thawing experiment, the effect freezing-thawing damage reduced according to adding foaming agent because those foaming agent make micro-pores in the structure which are not seen in the ordinary concrete structure.

  • The purpose of this study is to validate the environmental performance of the 'eco-friendly lightweight form' in the construction process. Unlike existing euro form and aluminum form, the proposed form does not require form oil during the process of concrete casting and is lightweight because it is made of engineering plastic. Therefore, eco-friendly lightweight form will reduce the $CO_2$ emissions in the construction process. To verify the hypothesis, the study compared existing forms and eco-friendly light weight form's $CO_2$ emissions in each stage in construction process when using 1,000 forms and 100 times from the LCI(Life Cycle Inventory) data. The total $CO_2$ emissions of the eco-friendly light weight form were 30,487kg $CO_2$, which equated to about 58% and 20% less emissions than the euroform and aluminum form. The result of the study verified that the eco-friendly lightweight form was effectively reduced $CO_2$ emission in the construction process.

  • In this study, the lightweight design of butterfly valve disc component for power plant based on topology optimization was performed. Here, commercial finite element (FE) analysis software was used. The external shape of the basic disc model was not deformed, and the internal element density was removed to make it lightweight. Optimal design was performed each other after the disc plate and two brackets attached on the surface of the disc were separated. Once the optimal shapes were selected, they were assembled to build up the 3-D lightweight valve disc model. After applying pressure to this model, FE analysis was performed to confirm the structural safety.

  • From the previous experimental test results, it has shown that shear that shear strength in lightweight concrete beams was about 85% on that in normal concrete beams. It is speculated that shear connectors in composite beams of steel and lightweight concrete associated with the longitudinal shear strength decrease more in strength than those in normal concrete. So this paper, as a study on strength of shear connectors in composite beams of steel and lightweight concrete slabs, has a purpose to compare the strength formula resulted from the push-out test of thirteen solid slab and four deck Plate slab with the established ones, and then to suggest a proper strength formula of the shear connectors. The established strength formula of the shear connectors is prescribed for $P_ps = 0.50A_s . \sqrt{f_C . E_C}$by AISC coed, but from the experimental test results the strength values of the shear connectors in lightweignt concrete slabs shows about 70% on those of the shear connectors in normal concrete slabs by AISC code. Therefore, as a strength formula this paper suggests to multiply the established strength formula by reduction factor$(\varphi=0.7)$.

  • High strength concrete is the occurrence of explosive spalling associated with high temperature such as a fire. The spalling causes the sever reduction of the cross sectional area with the exposure of the reinforcing steel, which originates a problem in the structural behaviour. The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical properties of lightweight mortar using perlite and polypropylene fiber for fire protection covering material. For this purpose, selected test variables were the ratio of water to cement, the ratio of cement to perlite, contents of polypropylene fiber. As a result of this study, it has been found that addition of perlite and polypropylene fiber to mortar modifies its pore structure and reduces its density. And it has been found that a new lightweight mortar can be used in the fire protection covering material.

  • JK wall is a shear wall made of lightweight EPS mortar and reinforced with a 3-D galvanized steel mesh, called JK panel, and truss-like stiffeners, called JK stiffeners. Earlier studies have shown that low strength lightweight concrete has the potential to be used in structural elements. In this study, seismic contribution of the JK infill walls surrounded by steel frames is numerically investigated. Adopting a hybrid numerical model, behavior envelop of the wall is derived from the general purpose finite element software, Abaqus. Obtained backbone would be implemented in the professional analytical software, SAP2000, in which through calibrated hysteretic parameters, cyclic behavior of the JK infill can be simulated. Through comparison with earlier experimental results, it turned out that the proposed hybrid modeling can simulate monotonic and cyclic behavior of JK walls with good accuracy. JK infills have a panel-type configuration which their dominant failure mode would be ductile in flexure. Finally technical and economical advantages of the proposed JK infills are assessed for two representative multistory buildings. It is revealed that JK infills can reduce maximum inter-story drifts as well as residual drifts at the expense of minor increase in the developed base shear.
