Using the acoustic features of speech, important social and linguistic information about the speaker can be obtained, and one of the key features is the dialect. A speaker's use of a dialect is a major barrier to interaction with a computer. Dialects can be distinguished at various levels such as phonemes, syllables, words, phrases, and sentences, but it is difficult to distinguish dialects by identifying them one by one. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a lightweight Korean dialect classification model using only MFCC among the features of speech data. We study the optimal method to utilize MFCC features through Korean conversational voice data, and compare the classification performance of five Korean dialects in Gyeonggi/Seoul, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongsang in eight machine learning and deep learning classification models. The performance of most classification models was improved by normalizing the MFCC, and the accuracy was improved by 1.07% and F1-score by 2.04% compared to the best performance of the classification model before normalizing the MFCC.

3D object detection generally aims to detect relatively large data such as automobiles, buses, persons, furniture, etc, so it is vulnerable to small object detection. In addition, in an environment with limited resources such as embedded devices, it is difficult to apply the model because of the huge amount of computation. In this paper, the accuracy of small object detection was improved by focusing on local features using only one layer, and the inference speed was improved through the proposed knowledge distillation method from large pre-trained network to small network and adaptive quantization method according to the parameter size. The proposed model was evaluated using SUN RGB-D Val and self-made apple tree data set. Finally, it achieved the accuracy performance of 62.04% at mAP@0.25 and 47.1% at mAP@0.5, and the inference speed was 120.5 scenes per sec, showing a fast real-time processing speed.

Machine learning techniques using visual data have high usability in fields of industry and service such as scene recognition, fault detection, security and user analysis. Among these, user analysis through the videos from CCTV is one of the practical way of using vision data. Also, many studies about lightweight artificial neural network have been published to increase high usability for mobile and embedded environment so far. In this study, we propose the network combining the object detection and classification for mobile graphic processing unit. This network detects pedestrian and face, classifies age and gender from detected face. Proposed network is constructed based on MobileNet, YOLOv2 and skip connection. Both detection and classification models are trained individually and combined as 2-stage structure. Also, attention mechanism is used to improve detection and classification ability. Nvidia Jetson Nano is used to run and evaluate the proposed system.
Optical Camera Communication (OCC), known as the next-generation wireless communication technology, is currently under extensive research. The performance of OCC technology is affected by the communication environment, and various strategies are being studied to improve it. Among them, the most prominent method is applying convolutional neural networks (CNN) to the receiver of OCC using deep learning technology. However, in most studies, CNN is simply used to detect the transmitter. In this paper, we experiment with applying the convolutional neural network not only for transmitter detection but also for the Rx demodulation system. We hypothesize that, since the data images of the OCC system are relatively simple to classify compared to other image datasets, high accuracy results will appear in most CNN models. To prove this hypothesis, we designed and implemented an OCC system to collect data and applied it to 12 different CNN models for experimentation. The experimental results showed that not only high-performance CNN models with many parameters but also lightweight CNN models achieved an accuracy of over 99%. Through this, we confirmed the feasibility of applying the OCC system in real-time on mobile devices such as smartphones.

As the noise canceler with a small processing delay increases the sampling frequency, a better-quality output can be obtained. For a single buffer, processing delay occurs because it is impossible to write new data while the processor is processing the data. When synthesizing with anti-noise and output signal, this processing delay creates additional buffering overhead to match the phase. In this paper, we propose an accelerator structure that minimizes processing delay and increases processing speed by alternately performing read and write operations using the Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer. In addition, we compare the structural differences between the two methods of noise cancellation (Fast Fourier Transform noise cancellation and adaptive Least Mean Square algorithm). As a result, using an Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer the processing delay was reduced by 29.2% compared to a single buffer. The proposed Symmetric Even-Odd-buffer structure has the advantage that it can be applied to various canceling algorithms.

The development of lightweight, low energy and small-sized sensors incorporated with the wireless networks has brought about a phenomenal growth of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in its different fields of applications. Moreover, the routing of data is crucial in a wide number of critical applications that includes ecosystem monitoring, military and disaster management. However, the time-delay, energy imbalance and minimized network lifetime are considered as the key problems faced during the process of data transmission. Furthermore, only when the functionality of cluster head selection is available in WSNs, it is possible to improve energy and network lifetime. Besides that, the task of cluster head selection is regarded as an NP-hard optimization problem that can be effectively modelled using hybrid metaheuristic approaches. Due to this reason, an Improved Coyote Optimization Algorithm-based Clustering Technique (ICOACT) is proposed for extending the lifetime for making efficient choices for cluster heads while maintaining a consistent balance between exploitation and exploration. The issue of premature convergence and its tendency of being trapped into the local optima in the Improved Coyote Optimization Algorithm (ICOA) through the selection of center solution is used for replacing the best solution in the search space during the clustering functionality. The simulation results of the proposed ICOACT confirmed its efficiency by increasing the number of alive nodes, the total number of clusters formed with the least amount of end-to-end delay and mean packet loss rate.

Purpose: Falls among persons older than 65 years are a significant concern due to their frequency and severity. This study aimed to develop a vest-type embedded artificial intelligence (AI) system capable of detecting and predicting falls in various scenarios. Methods: In this study, we established and developed a vest-type embedded AI system to judge and predict falls in various directions and situations. To train the AI, we collected data using acceleration and gyroscope values from a six-axis sensor attached to the seventh cervical and the second sacral vertebrae of the user, considering accurate motion analysis of the human body. The model was constructed using a neural network-based AI prediction algorithm to anticipate the direction of falls using the collected pedestrian data. Results: We focused on developing a lightweight and efficient fall prediction model for integration into an embedded AI algorithm system, ensuring real-time network optimization. Our results showed that the accuracy of fall occurrence and direction prediction using the trained fall prediction model was 89.0% and 78.8%, respectively. Furthermore, the fall occurrence and direction prediction accuracy of the model quantized for embedded porting was 87.0 % and 75.5 %, respectively. Conclusion: The developed fall detection and prediction system, designed as a vest-type with an embedded AI algorithm, offers the potential to provide real-time feedback to pedestrians in clinical settings and proactively prepare for accidents.

This study introduces driving pattern analysis and change detection methods using smartphone sensors, based on contrastive learning. These methods characterize driving patterns without labeled data, allowing accurate classification with minimal labeling. In addition, they are robust to domain changes, such as different vehicle types. The study also examined the applicability of these methods to smartphones by comparing them with six lightweight deep-learning models. This comparison supported the development of smartphone-based driving pattern analysis and assistance systems, utilizing smartphone sensors and contrastive learning to enhance driving safety and efficiency while reducing the need for extensive labeled data. This research offers a promising avenue for addressing contemporary transportation challenges and advancing intelligent transportation systems.
