  • This paper presents a comprehensive review of metasurface technology, focusing on its significant role in extraordinary flat optic functionalities. Traditional optical components, though optimized, are bulky and less congruent with modern integrated electromagnetic and photonic systems. Metasurfaces, recognized as the 2D counterparts of bulk metamaterials, offer solutions with their planar, ultra-thin, and lightweight structures. Their meta-atoms are adept at introducing abrupt shifts in optical properties, paving the way for high-precision light manipulation. By introducing the key design principles of these meta-atoms, such as the magnetic dipole and Pancharatnam-Berry phase, various applications in wavefront shaping and beam forming with simple amplitude/phase manipulation and advanced applications including retroreflectors, Janus metasurfaces, multiplexing of optical wavefronts, data encryption, and metasurfaces for quantum applications are reviewed.

  • This paper proposes a lightweight trace-driven Processing-In-Memory (PIM) simulator, TP-Sim. TP-Sim is a General Purpose PIM (GP-PIM) simulator that evaluates various PIM system performance-related metrics. Based on instruction and memory traces extracted from the Intel Pin tool, TP-Sim can replay trace files for multiple models of PIM architectures to compare its performance. To verify the availability of TP-Sim, we estimated three different system configurations on the STREAM benchmark. Compared to the traditional Host CPU-only systems with conventional memory hierarchy, simple GP-PIM architecture achieved better performance; even the Host CPU has the same number of in-order cores. For further study, we also extend TP-Sim as a part of a heterogeneous system simulator that contains CPU, GPGPU, and PIM as its primary and co-processors.

  • When using IFC data consisting of STEP schema based on the EXPRESS language, it is not easy for collaborating project stakeholders to share BIM modeling shape information. The IFC viewer application must be installed on the desktop PC to review the BIM modeling shape information defined within the IFC, because the IFC viewer application not only parse STEP structure information model but also process the 3D feature construction for a 3D visualization. Therefore, we propose a lightweight data structure design for web visualization by parsing IFC data and constructing 3D modeling data. Our experimental results show the weight reduction of IFC data is about 40% of original file size and the web visualization is able to see the same quality with all web browsers which support WebGL on PCs and smartphones. If applied research is conducted about the web visualization based on IFC data of the last construction phase, it could be utilized in various fields ranging from the facility maintenance to indoor location-based services.

  • E-textile technology has earned a great deal of interest in many fields; however, existing wearable network protocols are not optimized for use with conductive yarn. In this paper, some of the basic properties of conductive textiles and requirements on wearable personal area networks (PANs) are reviewed. Then, we present a wearable personal network (WPN), which is a four-layered wearable PAN using bus topology. We have designed the WPN to be a lightweight protocol to work with a variety of microcontrollers. The profile layer is provided to make the application development process easy. The data link layer exchanges frames in a master-slave manner in either the reliable or best-effort mode. The lower part of the data link layer and the physical layer of WPN are made of a fabric serial-bus interface which is capable of measuring bus signal properties and adapting to medium variation. After a formal verification of operation and performances of WPN, we implemented WPN communication modules (WCMs) on small flexible printed circuit boards. In order to demonstrate the behavior of our WPN on a textile, we designed a WPN tutorial shirt prototype using implemented WCMs and conductive yarn.

  • This paper gives a comprehensive overview of the SSO solution design on the intranet. SSO described in this paper is based on LDAP, PKI and CA. We designed the data structure to hold many various application services by changing the attribute and DN of LDAP DB. We built LDAP DB using the employee records stored in our organization database. LDAP DB is routinely updated from the database. CA Server that depends on PKI is used to issue the certificates. SHTTP based on SSL is used to protect the data between certificate server and the intranet users.

  • Recently some efforts have been performed to combine the advantages of light-weight and self-compacting concrete in one package called Light-Weight Self-Compacting Concrete (LWSCC). Accurate prediction of hardened properties from fresh state characteristics is vital in design of concrete structures. Considering the lack of references in mixture design of LWSCC, investigating the proper mixture components and their effects on mechanical properties of LWSCC can lead to a reliable basis for its application in construction industry. This study utilizes wide range of existing data of LWSCC mixtures to study the individual and combined effects of the components on the compressive strength. From sensitivity of compressive strength to the proportions and interaction of the components, two equations are proposed to estimate the LWSCC compressive strength. Predicted values of the equations are in good agreement with the experimental data. Application of lightweight aggregate to reduce the density of LWSCC may bring some mixing problems like segregation. Reaching a higher strength by lowered density is a challenging problem that is investigated as well. The results show that, the compressive strength can be improved by increasing the of mixture density of LWSCC, especially in the range of density under $2000Kg/m^3$.

  • Semantic interpretation of the relationship between noun compound (NC) elements has been a challenging issue due to the lack of contextual information, the unbounded number of combinations, and the absence of a universally accepted system for the categorization. The current models require a huge corpus of data to extract contextual information, which limits their usage in many situations. In this paper, a new semantic relations interpreter for NCs based on novel lightweight binary features is proposed. Some of the binary features used are novel. In addition, the interpreter uses a new feature selection method. By developing these new features and techniques, the proposed method removes the need for any huge corpuses. Implementing this method using a modular and plugin-based framework, and by training it using the largest and the most current fine-grained data set, shows that the accuracy is better than that of previously reported upon methods that utilize large corpuses. This improvement in accuracy and the provision of superior efficiency is achieved not only by improving the old features with such techniques as semantic scattering and sense collocation, but also by using various novel features and classifier max entropy. That the accuracy of the max entropy classifier is higher compared to that of other classifiers, such as a support vector machine, a Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and a decision tree, is also shown.

  • Network anomaly detection in Software Defined Networking, especially the detection of DDoS attack, has been given great attention in recent years. It is convenient to build the Traffic Matrix from a global view in SDN. However, the monitoring and management of high-volume feature-rich traffic in large networks brings significant challenges. In this paper, we propose a moving window Principal Components Analysis based anomaly detection and mitigation approach to map data onto a low-dimensional subspace and keep monitoring the network state in real-time. Once the anomaly is detected, the controller will install the defense flow table rules onto the corresponding data plane switches to mitigate the attack. Furthermore, we evaluate our approach with experiments. The Receiver Operating Characteristic curves show that our approach performs well in both detection probability and false alarm probability compared with the entropy-based approach. In addition, the mitigation effect is impressive that our approach can prevent most of the attacking traffic. At last, we evaluate the overhead of the system, including the detection delay and utilization of CPU, which is not excessive. Our anomaly detection approach is lightweight and effective.
