This study is performed to investigate the effect of the artificial light for room lightening. To do that, the experiments were done using the black room with 1m3 and performed to show the effect of the length between the room and light source and light intensities as LUX. The LUX of 18 sites in the room was measured using LUX meter. The length between the room and the light source was chosen as 500mm, 1000mm, and 1500mm and the light intensities was 3 levels. The results were shown the distinct difference between the part directly projected through the light path and non-directly projected. So, the light delivery path have to be modified for next step research. The results were very sensitive for the part directly projected through the light path. This study showed the basic results for room lightening using light source to simulate the solar lightening and was worth in a strict sense as fundamental study.

A person's body resistance in the waterpark, public bath and similar places is much lower than any other places due to effect of water. So low voltage may create a shock hazard for the human body in case of leakage or fault currents from lighting unit etc. We researched the related regulations which are internal standards, NEC, IEC and investigated the actual conditions for the prevention of electric shock due to lighting units in the waterpark, public bath and similar places. As a results internal standard is obscure as compared with NEC, IEC which is the limit of application and distinction of environment condition. And then internal standard's using voltage is higher than NEC, IEC in filed of water. Studies show that internal standard should be revision that raise the installation height of lighting unit, mark IP level surface of lighting unit and limit using voltage to line-to-line voltage

For the purpose of improving the durability problem, translucent opal glass was fabricated as a substitute for the polycarbonate diffuser of LED lighting. Calcium phosphate was used as an opacifier of opal glass and melted in an electric furnace. The opaque effect was identified according to the change of the cooling procedure. As results, translucent opal glass was obtained by the melting of a batch with a composition of 3.8% calcium phosphate at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and then the cooling of the material in the furnace. For the cooling condition of the glass sample, HTCG (High Temperature Cooled Glass) was found to have better optical properties than LTAG (Low Temperature Annealed Glass). It had excellent optical properties for a diffuser of LED lighting, with no dazzling from direct light due to its high haze value of over 99% and low parallel transmittance value of under 1%. For the thermal properties, it had an expressed thermal expansion coefficient of $5.7{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and a softening point of $876^{\circ}C$; it also had good thermal properties such as good thermal shock resistance and was easy to apply to the general manufacturing process in the forming of glass tubes and bulbs. Therefore, it is concluded that this translucent opal glass can be used as a glass diffuser material for LED lighting with high heat resistance and high durability; this material is suitable as a substitute for polycarbonate diffusers.
The weekly liveweight gain, growing and stress parameters of quails bred using two different types of lighting for 6 weeks following hatching were examined in this study. The first type of lighting was 23 L:1 D, continuous lighting (CL), widely used in the commercial system and the second was a self-photoperiod (SP) system consisting of a continuously lit chamber and a dark chamber the quails could move to as they wished. On the first 15 days, no difference was found in liveweight gain between the two breeding systems. On the $6^{th}$ week when the trial was completed, the liveweight of the male quails upon which CL lighting was used was 159.03 g while the weight of males in the SP group was 174.43 g; these values in female quails of the CL group were 179.15 g and in the SP group were 200.68 g. The CL group had lower testis volume (TVOM, $cm^{3}$) and testis weight (TW, g) than the SP group, however there was no difference between the groups in testis weight/body weight rate (BWTW %). In female quails, the ovary weight (OW, g) and the ovary weight/body weight rate (BWOW, %) values were higher in the SP group. The CL light regime was concluded to cause stress in male quails (CL, Heterophil/Lymphocyte ratio (H/L): 0.27; SP, H/L: 0.17). In conclusion; the SP system allowing the quails to regulate their light periods increased liveweight gain and enabled sexual maturity to be gained at an earlier period than in quail on the CL system and improved their welfare.
Natural lighting is directly connected with our mental and physical health. For working or learning effect, the proper natural lighting is required for improving our living conditions. School facilities, especially, are the place where includes students' ordinary activities with learning behaviors during the school years from elementary to high school. This study was carried out for the purpose introducing a basic database in that planning a school by researching on the actual in the natural lighting system of some schools' classroom, estimating, and analyzing through a simulation, which resulted in a method of improving the natural lighting system. As a result of measuring and analyzing Daylight Factor(DF) during the time from 9 am to 3 pm when students are activating in their classroom, generally DF range of the sides near to window and aisle seats zone are not distributed well. Besides, two out of four school which are researched would not reach the standards of the law for school sanitary while rest of the schools meet the standards; Average DF 5% and Minimum DF 2%. And the result of a simulation by RADIANCE program shows the most appropriate DF range when it is applied in variable numbers about an oriehows the- South-east 15, south-east 30, south-east 45, south-west 15, south-west 30, and south-west 45 degrees. When it is applied in the variable numbers about glass transmittance - 60%, 70%, and 80% in condition facing south of a classroom, the result shows that the DF range of 80% transmittance is relatively higher than other glasses in the classroom. Thus, when a school is built, plans for an orientation is necessary for improve of elementary schools' environment with the glass installation which is made for high transmittance and is regarded with the students' activities time.
Recently, LEDs are used in various fields such as lightings, billboards, displays, and so on. In this paper, we tried to combine a costume with LEDs in a performance environment. To meet the environmental requirements, we propose a digital costume platform which consists of wireless network, an embedded system, a control jacket, a digital skin, and a pattern authoring tool. It is utilized for making a digital costume with LED lighting effects. The embedded system controls LED lighting according to the signals from a show control system through wireless networks. The control jacket can carry the embedded system and connect it with LEDs. The digital skin means a costume with LEDs. The LEDs were designed to fit in performance concept in point of aesthetic. The pattern authoring tool enables users to make timeline-based changing patterns of LED lighting. The proposed platform is a new lighting element in performances. It can expand stage representation techniques and be used as a special effect. It will play a role as a moving light in performances. We evaluated stable operations of our platform by employing it in live performances.
Background and objective: Various images from visual display terminals (VDTs) as well as living lighting are important parts of our daily life; thus, properly controlling the lighting environment - that is, illuminance, color temperature and good images from VDTs - can have a substantial effect on improving the mental health and work efficiency in everyday life. We examined electroencephalography (EEG) and heart rate variability (HRV) responses to various lighting conditions in 25 university students as they viewed images of a green landscape or traffic congestion. Methods: EEG was performed in darkness and when the room was illuminated with 10 different light-emitting diode (LED) color temperatures, while the EEG and HRV responses to green landscape or traffic congestion image stimuli were measured in darkness and during room illumination with three different LED color temperatures. Results: We found a significant difference between darkness and high LED illumination (400 lx) at 7 (CZ, F4, FZ, O1, O2, OZ, and T6) of 30 channels, while the alpha wave activity increased during darkness. In the second experiment, the green landscape image stimuli in the 30 lx-2600 K lighting condition elicited theta wave activity on the EEG, whereas the traffic congestion image stimuli under high LED illumination elicited high beta and gamma wave activities. Moreover, the subjects exhibited better stress coping ability and heart rate stability in response to green landscape image stimuli under illuminated conditions, according to their HRV. Conclusion: These results suggest that lower color temperatures and illumination levels alleviate tension, and that viewing green landscape image stimuli at low illumination, or in darkness, is effective for reducing stress. Conversely, high illumination levels and color temperatures are likely to increase tension and stress in response to traffic congestion image stimuli.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out whether the color change of the LED light source has a significant effect on the beta wave activity of EEG in the learning state. Methods: The subjects of the experiment were 20 male and female college students between the ages of 19 and 25 who routinely perform their studies. In the created learning environment, the EEG change according to the change in the lighting color was measured while solving the Mensa thinking ability problem while sitting on a desk with LED lights installed on the top and a chair with a footrest to stabilize the legs. The light source consisted of 3 ready-made colors and 6 newly created colors. A total of 9 color light stimuli were given for 2 minutes each, and the EEG change of the subject was observed. After the experiment, the correlation was analyzed based on the mid-beta wave data recorded on the QEEG according to the color change of light and the Mensa problem score. Results: It was found that the activation of mid-beta waves was stimulated in the temporal lobes (T5, T3, T6, T4) and occipital lobes (O1, O2) of all subjects who focused on solving Mensa thinking problems. As a result of comparing the top 20% and the bottom 20% of problem solving scores, the upper group had no effect of lighting, while the lower group showed increased beta wave activity in response to color light stimulation in the order of T4, T6, and T5. Implications: It was confirmed that the color of light that activates the middle beta wave varies greatly depending on the subject's attention and learning ability, and it is judged that the color of light including the green wavelength is helpful in activating the middle beta wave in the group with low learning ability.
Three experiments were carried out to examine how LED lighting hues influence to the rating and recognition of affective stimuli. In Experiment 1 and 2, IAPS affective pictures were used and an affective rating(valence and arousal) task and a recognition memory task were conducted under red, green, blue, and white hue LED lightings in Experiment 1 and cyan, magenta, yellow, and white ones in Experiment 2, respectively. In Experiment 3, affective words were used and the same two tasks were conducted under red, green, blue, and white hue LED lightings. According to the results of affective rating tasks, when primary hues(RGB) were used, red LED lighting elicited an excitement at the arousal dimension and green LED lighting evoked pleasantness at the valence one. When secondary hues(CMY) were used, magenta and cyan showed the similar but weaker patterns of responses comparing to red and green. The results of recognition memory task showed that the responses to the picture stimuli presented at green and cyan hue lightings tended to be a bit faster comparing to the stimuli presented at the other conditions but the difference was insignificant. In Experiment 3, however, recognition memory responses to the affective words presented at green hue lighting were faster significantly. These results indicate that warm colors like red and magenta elicit unpleasantness or excitement while cool colors like green and cyan evoke pleasantness or relaxation, and the primary hues provoke more positive or negative affectivity than secondary ones do. Particularly, the result of recognition memory task in Experiment 3 suggests that green hue LED lighting might be advantageous at the memory performance of language stimuli rather than visual ones.
This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplemental lighting on the growth and yield of hydroponically grown sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv. sprit) under low levels of natural light in winter. The plants were treated with natural light only (control), 3-hour supplemental lighting before sunrise, after sunrise and after sunset with high pressure sodium (HPS, 400W). As the result of these three treatments, the supplemental lighting promoted photosynthesis in the low light intensity condition and particularly photosynthesis was more active right after sun rise in the morning, 1.5-$3.0{\mu}molCO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ comparing to those of supplemental lighting after sunset, 0.5-$1.5{\mu}molCO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. Transpiration rate and stomatal conductance sharply increased with supplemental lighting after sunrise then they decreased again after turning the lights off. Stomatal size was observed $32.2{\mu}m^2$ after supplemental lighting, whereas the size of the natural light was almost closed at $7.7{\mu}m^2$. The average plant height of sweet papper cv. spirit was 185 cm before sunrise, 188 cm after sunrise and 208 cm after sunset with supplemental lighting for 3hours while the control was 171 cm. With supplemental lighting a better number of fruit set per plant was measured 4.3 before and after sunrise, 3.7 after sunset but 2.6 in the control. Interestingly, there were no significant differences in the sugar content ($^{\circ}Brix$) degree between treatment of supplemental lighting, whereas slight differences between seasons were seen. The marketable fruit yield of sweet pepper (cv. spirit) was $116.0kg{\cdot}ha$ with supplemental lighting, whereas the control (natural light only) was $75.8kg{\cdot}ha$. Despite of spending electricity and depreciation cost, the economic analysis showed net income with supplemental lighting after sunrise was 51% higher than control treatment in cv. spirit.
