  • The design of road lighting is aiming illuminance and luminance requirements for road lighting. In the process, various factors associated with luminaires such as luminous efficacy, light distribution, mounting height, spacing and maintenance factor are considered. However, there has been no restriction on lighting power density. In this study, lighting power density has been comparatively analyzed through a study of related data and a result of measurements on domestic roads. And, it has been analyzed by simulation results for road in which lighting conditions are variable. In terms of the limitation on power density for road lighting, road lighting can be designed using high efficacy lighting systems for energy saving.

  • To identify energy savings when comparing lighting designs or evaluating installed lighting, it is necessary to analyze the consumption of lighting power with respect to the electricity consumed and the lighting area. In Korea, however, these factors have not been considered in lighting design. In this paper, the lighting power-related standards on indoor lighting in foreign countries have been analyzed. It is determine appropriate lighting power consumption for indoor by calculating the energy consumption has been estimated in a lighting design adopted domestic luminaire used.

  • In this paper, parameters of electron temperature and density for the mercury-free lighting-source were measured to diagnosis and analyze in Xe based inductively coupled plasma (ICP). As results at several dependences of 20~100mTorr Xenon pressure, the brightness of discharge tube was higher (4,900 $cd/m^2$) than other conditions when Xe pressure was 20mTorr and RF power was 200W. In that case, the electron temperature and density were 3.58eV and $3.56{\times}10^{12}cm^2$, respectively. The key parameters of Xe based ICP depended on Xe pressure more than RF power that could be verified. A high electron temperature and low electron density with a suitable Xe pressure are indispensible parameters for Xe based ICP lighting-source.

  • Although the Act on the Prevention of Light Pollution Due to Artificial Lighting has been enforced since 2013, the area of advertisement lighting has made slow progress in solving the problems of light pollution. This paper first investigated institutional problems by analyzing domestic laws and regulations relating to the light pollution of advertisement lighting, and investigated and analyzed methods for reducing light pollution that were applied in overseas countries. Then, problems of light pollution were analyzed by conducting a research on the actual status of advertisement lightings installed in South Korea and applying various methods for reducing light pollution, and advertisement lighting using LED was recommended. As a method for reducing light pollution that can be applied to the process of manufacturing channel letter-type advertisement lights, power consumption per unit area ($W/m^2$) was proposed, and $100W/m^2$ was recommended as a value currently suitable for South Korea.

  • The office is an excellent candidate for implementing daylighting techniques because of the relatively high electric lighting power densities and long daytime use pattern. The quantity of light available for a space can be translated in term of the amount of energy savings through a process of a building energy simulation. To get significant energy savings in general illumination, the electric lighting system must be incorporated with a daylight - activated dimmer control. A prototype configuration of an office interior has been established and the integration between the building envelope and lighting and HVAC systems is evaluated based on computer modeling of a lighting control facility. First of all, an energy-efficient luminaire system is designed for both a totally open-plan office interior and a partitioned office. A lighting design and analysis program, Lumen-Micro 2000 predicts the optimal layout of a conventional fluorescent lighting fixture to meet the designed lighting level and calculates unit power density, which translates the demanded amount of electric lighting energy. A dimming control system integrated with the contribution of daylighting has been applied to the operating of the artificial lighting. Annual cooling load due to lighting and the projecting saving amount of cooling load due to daylighting under overcast diffuse sky are evaluated by a computer software, ENER-Win. In brief, the results from building energy simulation with measured daylight illumination levels and the performance of lighting control system indicate that daylighting can save over 70 percent of the required energy for general illumination in the perimeter zones through the year. A 25 % of electric energy for cooling may be saved by dimming and turning off the luminaires in the perimeter zones.

  • $Cs_3Sb$ photocathode was formed by newly developed process and successive in-situ lighting devices were fabricated in a process chamber. R, G, and B phosphors were applied on the anode plate, respectively. Major parameters such as brightness, power consumption, and efficacy were measured. The wavelength of LED excitation source was 450 nm. Both high power and low power modes were applied in the measurement. Measurement values were clearly differentiated by the voltage application modes. The measured values of each parameter was good enough to be applied for general lighting source. The results showed that $Cs_3Sb$ photocathode formed in atmospheric conditions was functioning as good as the photocathode formed in UHV conditions, and thus it could be applied to advanced lighting devices.

  • In the LED lighting industry, the dimming function in the LED lamp is required by demands of many consumers. To drive this LED lighting, various types of power converters have been applied. Among them, an LLC resonant converter could be applied for high power LED lighting because of its high efficiency and high power density, etc. The function of power factor correction (PFC) might be added to it. In this paper, a dimmable single-stage asymmetrical LLC resonant converter is proposed. The proposed converter performs both input-current harmonics reduction and PFC using the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Also, the lower voltage stress across switching devices as well as the zero voltage switching (ZVS) in switching devices is realized by the proposed topology. It can reduce cost and has high efficiency of the driver. In addition, the regulation of the output power by variable switching frequency can vary the brightness of a light. In the proposed converter, one of the attractive advantages doesn’t need any extra control circuits for the dimming function. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulation and experimental results from a 300W prototype are provided.

  • A light emitting diodes(LED) lighting has been increasingly used due to its low power consumption, long life time, high efficiency, and environment friendly characteristics. Also various power converters has been applied to drive these LED lighting. Among many power converters, a LLC resonant converter could be applied for LED lighting because of its high efficiency and high power density. Furthermore, the function of power factor correction(PFC) might be added. In this paper, 1-stage asymmetrical LLC resonant converter is proposed. The proposed converter performs both input-current harmonics reduction and PFC using the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM). The proposed 1-stage LLC resonant converter approach has the lower voltage stress across switching devices and achieve the zero voltage switching(ZVS) in switching devices. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulation and experimental results from a 300[W] prototype are provided.
