This paper presents the effect of scratches on an optical connector interface surface on the insertion loss of optical connectors. We propose a model for calculating the insertion loss of optical connectors. The model is expressed in terms of geometrical parameters of scratches assuming that the transmission coefficient of a light wave on the scratch surfaces is linearly varied as a function of scratch depth. Geometrical parameters of scratches such as location, width, and depth of scratches are measured using 3D optical interferometry surface profiler. We obtain the equation of the transmission coefficient in terms of scratch depth comparing the experimental insertion loss data to the insertion loss data using the model presented in this paper. Using the model and the equation of the transmission coefficient presented in this paper, we present the results of the insertion loss of optical connectors for various geometrical parameters of scratches. Scratches which are located at longer than two times the core radius from the center of the core show negligible effect on the insertion loss of optical connectors.

WDM(Wavelength division multiplexing) light wave communication system requires MUX/DeMUX and optical filter OADM can be used to extract and add the specific wavelength channel from the transmission line. In this paper, we propose the OADM based on MZI and cascade FBG. It is able to minimize system and reduce sidelobe. So, we have considered MZI structure and 3dB coupler. Using the coupled mode theory. We also analyze out characteristics of OADM and experiment. From results obtained by experiment and computer. Simulation, the proposed OADM with cascade FBG works well. we hope that the obtained result in this paper con be used as the data to design the OADM with cascade FBG.

In this study, surface plasmon resonance structures for the selective and the enhanced transmission of infrared light were designed. In order to relieve the large discontinuity of refractive index between air and metal hole array, $Si_3N_4$ was used as the impedance matching layer. Experimental parameter were calculated and determined in advance by the rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) simulation, and then the experiment was carried out. A 2-dimensional metal hole array structures were patterned on the size of $1{\times}1cm^2$ GaAs substrate using photolithography process, and 5 nm thick Ti, 50 nm thick Au were deposited by E-beam evaporator, respectively. Subsequently, $Si_3N_4$ films with various thicknesses (150, 350, 550, and 750 nm) were deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). For the comparison, transmittance of specimens with and without $Si_3N_4$ was measured using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in the range of $2.5-15{\mu}m$. Furthermore, the surface and the cross-sectional images were collected from the specimens by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). From the results, it was demonstrated that the transmittance was enhanced up to 80% by the deposition of 750 nm $Si_3N_4$ at $6.23{\mu}m$. It has advantage of enhanced transmission despite the simple fabrication process.
The incompletion of TIR (Total Internal Reflection) in FTIR (Frustrated Total Internal Reflection) touch screen has been investigated as follows. Assuming a 3 layer thin film of medium1 ($n_1$)-medium2 ($n_2$)-medium3 ($n_3$) with refraction indices of $n_1=n_3{\neq}n_2$, it was theoretically proven that FTIR or OT (ordinary transmission) phenomena might happen through medium2 from medium1 to medium3 relying on relative difference in $n_1(=n_3)$ and $n_2$, and that the formulae for FTIR and OT could be transformed into each other depending on the number state (imaginary or real) of the light wave phase. In parallel to the theoretical analysis, the incompletion of TIR in acrylate due to external contacts was also elucidated from the experimental and phenomenological viewpoints. On the basis of this considerate work, we explained how to improve the touching performance for better FTIR touch screen.
Mode-locked pulse lasers have a temporal periodicity up over a short period of time. However, in the time-frequency domain, a pulsed laser with temporal periodicity is described as an optical frequency comb with constant frequency spacing. Each frequency component of the optical frequency comb in the frequency domain is then a continuous-wave (CW) laser with hundreds of thousands of single-frequency-component CW lasers in the time domain. This optical frequency comb was developed approximately 20 years ago, enabling the development of the world's most precise atomic clocks and precise transmission of highly stable optical frequency references. In this review, research on the selective extraction of the single-frequency components of optical frequency combs and the control of the frequency components of optical combs is introduced. By presenting the concepts and principles of these optical frequency combs in a tutorial format, we hope to help readers understand the properties of light in the time-frequency domain and develop various applications using optical frequency combs.

In this Paper. a time-domain geoacoustic inversion was performed using the bulb signals measured during MがU. 04 experiment conducted in the East Sea of Korea in 2004. An obiective function was defined as a direct cross-correlation between the measured and the simulated signals in time domain. The ray theory was used to model the wave propagation in time domain and optimizations were Performed using VFSA (very fast simulated annealing) algorithm. Comparison of inversion results with those from transmission loss matching (an accompanying paper in this issue of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of Korea) shows that Parameters are consistently inverted. Direct time series comparisons between the measured signals and the simulated signals are Presented based on inversion results.
To investigate the process of spermoigenesis and glycogen effect during the spermatogenesis of Rana catesbeiana, the morphological characteristics of the testes were examined by light and transmission electron microscopy. Spermiogenesis of R. catesbeiana was divided into three stages on the basis of the features of the nucleus and the cytoplasm organelles. Except for the primary spermatogonia, the phases from the spermatocytogenesis to the spermatids before spermiation phase were surrounded by spermatocyst. Especially , the glycogen particles were not observed until in the stage of spermatocytogenesis, but from the early spermatids to the maturation phase were observed in the nucleus, acrosome and cytoplasm of the spermatids. The present result suggests that the glycogen may play an important role in the sperm maturation, and as a source of the energy in the wave-movement of sperm tail.

Among the various physiological information that could be obtained from human body, heartbeat rate is a commonly used vital sign in the clinical milieu. Photoplethysography (PPG) sensor is incorporated into many wearable healthcare devices because of its advantages such as simplicity of hardware structure and low-cost. However, healthcare device employing PPG sensor has been issued in susceptibility of light and motion artifact. In this paper, to develop the real-time heart rate measurement device that is less sensitive to the external noises, we have fabricated an ultra-small wireless LC resonant pressure sensor by MEMS process. After performance evaluation in linearity and repeatability of the MEMS pressure sensor, heartbeat waveform and rate on radial artery were obtained by using resonant frequency-pressure conversion method. The measured data using the proposed heartbeat rate measurement system was validated by comparing it with the data of an commercialized heart rate measurement device. Result of the proposed device was agreed well to that of the commercialized device. The obtained real time heartbeat wave and rate were displayed on personal mobile system by bluetooth communication.
We discuss the experimental procedure for extracting reliable phase information from a defocus series of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) dark-field images using the transport of intensity equation (TIE). Taking InGaN/GaN multi-quantum well light-emitting diode as a model system, various factors affecting the final result of reconstructed phase such as TEM sample preparation, TEM imaging condition, image alignment, the correction of defocus values and the use of high frequency pass filter are evaluated. The obtained phase of wave function was converted to the geometric phase of the corresponding lattice planes, which was then used for the two-dimensional mapping of lattice strain following the dark-field inline holography (DIH) routine. The strain map obtained by DIH after optimized image processing is compared with that obtained by the geometric phase analysis of high resolution TEM (HRTEM) image, manifesting that DIH yields more accurate and reliable strain information than HRTEM-based GPA.

Applying rigorous modal transmission-line theory (MTLT), the properties of resonant diffraction gratings under conical light incidence is investigated. The mode vectors pertinent to resonant diffraction under conical mounting vary less with incident angle than those associated with diffraction gratings in classical mounting. Furthermore, as the evanescent diffracted waves drive the leaky modes responsible for the resonance effects, the conical mounting imbues diffraction gratings with larger angular tolerance than their classical counterparts. Based on these concepts, the angular-spectral and wavelength-spectral performance of resonant diffraction gratings in conical and classical mounts by numerical calculations with spectra found for conical incidence are quantified. These results will be useful in various applications demanding resonant diffraction gratings that are efficient and physically sparse.
